Chapter 752
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 752
Rachel pushed David away and walked out of the elevator with a calm expression.
Unfortunately, her legs went limp and she staggered. Fortunately, David reacted quickly and hooked his
arm around her waist.
The warmth of the manâs palm landed on her waist, making her feel as if she had been burned.
Rachel looked at him.
Davidâs eyes were dark and deep, immersed in a desire that made oneâs heart skip a beat. He leaned
in and said in a low and cold voice beside Rachelâs ear, âWhy did you kiss me just now?â
Rachel was speechless.
She pursed her lips. âDonât you know?â
David decided to follow through with his plan even though he knew the answer. He simply shook his
head. âI donât know.â
Rachel choked and glared at him. âForget it if you donât know.â
With that, she shook off his hand and walked straight to the car.
The corners of Davidâs lips curled into a smile. He quickly chased after her and held her hand. âI really
donât know. Tell me about it.â
âI have nothing to tell you.â Rachelâs cheeks were still slightly flushed.
She thought, âHow could I say such a thing?
âI canât possibly say that everything you did tonight touched me and I took the initiative to kiss you
because I didnât know how to express my gratitude, can I?â
She could not bear to say such words.
Moreover, her pride did not allow her to say something like that.
Chapter 752
After returning to Sandalwood Hills, Rachel got out of the car first.
At this moment, Chris walked over from the side. âMiss Grey, this is what you left in the car.â
It was the box that Ronnie had given her before.
Rachel took the box and smiled. âThank you.â
David, who was following behind her, saw the box. There was a slight flash in his eyes, but he did not
say anything.
After the two of them walked into the living room, David took off his suit jacket. âDo you want supper?â
âNo need.â From the corner of her eye, Rachel saw the box that was placed on the coffee table.
It had been sent by Mr. Davies when he left Aureliana.
She had first went to the law firm, then returned to the Johnson family, upon her return. She had yet to
see what was inside.
David saw through her intentions. He held her hand and walked to the coffee table. âDo you want to
have supper with me first before looking at the things inside?â
Rachel hesitated for a moment before nodding.
The two of them sat at the dining table. Rachel drank the soup in her bowl and realized that David did
not eat much. Instead, she was the one who ate most of the food even though she said she didnât want
supper.
âWhy have you stopped eating?â Rachel looked at him.
âDidnât he say that he wanted to eat supper?â she thought.
David looked at her and smiled faintly. âIâm fine. Eat more.â
Rachel felt suspicious.
Why did she have to eat more?
Chapter 752
She could not help but glance at David. Coincidentally, she saw the manâs
faint smile.
His gaze was like a jackal staring at a lamb waiting to be slaughtered, making Rachelâs heart skip a
beat. Then, she had a strange feeling.
After eating, Rachel sat cross-legged on the sofa in the living room. There were snacks on the table
that aided digestion.
âDid you open it and see whatâs inside?â Rachel rubbed the box. There were exquisite patterns carved
on it. She liked it quite a bit.
David smiled and said, âI have no reason to open something meant for you.â
As soon as he finished speaking, Rachel lifted the lock and opened the box.
What followed was the smell of ebony agarwood.
The thing in the box was covered by a red cloth, but from its shape, it looked like a hairpin or something
similar.
She lifted the cloth. As expected.
The phoenix on the royal hairpin was lifelike. Its feathers were decorated with various colors. It looked
as magnificent as a hairpin used by an
ancient empress.
âThis hairpinâ¦â Rachel frowned slightly, her eyes filled with contemplation.
David looked at the dark expression on Rachelâs face and asked, âWhat did you see?â
âThis hairpin has been made with the same purpose as the queenâs crown that was auctioned off
previously. It is a fake from a similar dynasty. Judging from how it was produced, this hairpin should
belong in a set with the queenâs crown.â
In other words, they should have come from the same person and from the same place.
âSo you suspect that the queenâs crown came from Aureliana?â David said Rachelâs guess aloud.

Hearing this, Rachel looked at him and nodded with a serious expression. âCan we get Yann to follow
this clue?â
She had a feeling that Mr. Davies did not give her this hairpin as a gift.
He was telling her directly that there must be a very important secret hidden in the queenâs crown that
she had bid for back then.
This was especially so considering what Mr. Davies had said to her before.
âLife is like chess. Every move you make is predestined by the heavens, but it is also your own choice.
Sometimes, you might not understand the move that you made, but youâre already playing in the
game.â
Thinking of this, a hint of impatience appeared in Rachelâs eyes.
What was waiting for her?
They had repeatedly thrown bait in front of her. Why did they want to pull
her into this matter?
David saw the unconcealable impatience in Rachelâs eyes. He pursed his thin lips slightly and reached
out to touch the top of her head. âLater, Iâll instruct Yann to investigate. Iâll get him to report to you
immediately if thereâs any news.â
Rachel sighed helplessly. âThatâs all we can do now.â
After putting away her things, she stood up. âItâs getting late. Iâll go back and rest first-â
Before she could finish her sentence, David grabbed her slender wrist and pulled her into his arms.
She instinctively cried out in surprise, but David sealed her lips with his.
The thick night sky, the dim lights, and the manâs body temperature hinted at what was about to
happen.
Rachelâs fingers curled up slightly, and her almond-shaped eyes were covered in a layer of wet mist. âI-
Iâ¦â
All aspects of David from that night really shocked her, so much so that she

had a premonition of what was going to happen next. She became even
more uneasy.
Sensing the womanâs nervousness, David kissed her lips gently. âI promise you wonât let you cry this
time.â
As soon as he finished speaking, he bent over and picked the woman up horizontally before walking
straight to the bedroom.
The next morning, Rachel opened her eyes and looked at the ceiling above in a daze.
She couldnât remember what time she slept last night. The last thing she remembered was David
saying âlast timeâ.
âGreat, âlast timeâ again,â she thought.
She had cried her voice hoarse last night, but David had no intention of letting her off.
He was even more ferocious than the previous few times. He wanted to
swallow her alive.
Rachel felt the soreness in her waist and limbs. She could not help but
curse in her heart.
Indeed, men were the most deceptive.
She would rather believe that the sun would rise from the west than
whatever came out of a manâs mouth.
