Chapter 757
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 757
Rachel looked at him indifferently, her calm gaze like someone observing a struggling fish in a muddy
pond. âThis is a treasure I especially found in the black market. Itâs worth a fortune. Not only itâs
capable of relieving fatigue, but it also gives people a sense of euphoria.â
âOf course, it is commonly known as the club drug.â
She had expected Harold to be a wise man who knew when to submit to circumstances. She thought
he would reveal the mastermind and motives behind the scenes.
Yet it seemed like he wouldnât speak up until he learned the hard way.
If that was the case, she didnât mind using some means, just as Harold had plotted against her uncle,
Tom.
When she turned to leave, Harold attempted to grab her.
However, Billy kicked Harold away before his fingertips could touch the corner of Rachelâs clothing.
Harold staggered and fell to the ground. Clutching his chest, he suppressed the rising smell of blood in
his throat. âRachel⦠Rachel Grey⦠you⦠cough, come backâ¦â
Rachel did not seem to hear him and left without even looking back.
After closing the door to the private room, she glanced at Billy. âKeep a close eye on him. Donât let
anything happen to him.â
She couldnât guarantee that Harold wouldnât try to harm himself to get out of this situation.
âMiss Grey, donât worry. We know what weâre doing,â Billy said..
Rachel lowered her eyes to conceal the coldness in them. âThank you for your hard work tonight.â
She looked at Lucas at the end of the corridor and walked towards him.
Tomâs incident affected Lucas to some extent.
He leaned lazily against the wall, with cigarette butts scattered around his feet.
His tousled hair before his forehead obscured his affectionate amorous eyes. The usually arrogant and
wilful son of the Johnson family was now shrouded in an unusual sense of loneliness and darkness.
Hearing footsteps, he turned his head and exhaled a puff of smoke from his
mouth. At the same time, he stubbed out the cigarette between his fingers. âDid you take care of
everything?â
âYeah,â Rachel replied casually.
They walked outside together, and Rachel said, âWe have to find a way to see
Uncle Tom.â
Only by meeting with Tom and learning the whole story from him could they find evidence beneficial to
him and overturn the accusations in the anonymous tip-off.
Hearing that, Lucas frowned slightly.
The Johnson familyâs status in Seaxas was second to none, but Tom was the only person involved in
politics.
Now that something had happened to him, the so-called colleagues of the past. were unreliable, and
seeking help from others was the only option.
âIâll figure something out.â Lucas had a military background, and his connections could still come in
handy at this critical moment.
However, Rachel knew deep down that using those connections at this point. would be tantamount to
destroying years of friendship.
Just when she was at a loss, a powerful and resounding footstep echoed from the end of the hallway.
She looked up and saw David approaching in a black suit with a bright light. shining from his back.
She gazed at David in astonishment as he got closer to her. âWhy are you here?â
She had never breathed a word to David about Tomâs accident since the beginning.
She didnât want him to worry, nor did she want to get him involved.
Davidâs thin lips were pressed into a fine, thin line. He oozed an aura so cold that it
could turn the air into fine ice.
Although he did not say anything, Rachel could already sense his displeasure.
However, after pondering for a moment, she really couldnât think of anything that made David unhappy.
Standing beside them, Lucas noticed the unusual atmosphere between the two
and felt somewhat awkward. So he took the initiative to leave.
âIâll go have a smoke.â
After saying that, he gave Rachel a âgood luckâ look and walked away without looking back.
Rachel was confused. She didnât do anything to upset David. Why was he looking
at her like that?
David lifted her chin with well-defined fingers as she was deep in thought, forcing her to raise her head
and look up at him.
The light from the corridor shone on her face, making her already stunning features even more
breathtaking.
The faint light scattered into her eyes like countless stars in the night sky.
David stared at her for a while, and his cold face turned a shade darker. He sighed silently. âYouâd
rather use someone from the Red Flame than call me for help?â
He was her fiance, but why did he always feel invisible around her?
Hearing this, Rachel understood everything.
So she hadnât been able to keep it a secret after all.
However, coming to think of it, it was understandable. As the wealthiest family in Seaxas, the Johnson
familyâs every move was scrutinized by countless eyes. Even the faintest movement couldnât escape
notice, let alone Tomâs suspension this
time.
Rachel tugged at her lips, held his hand, and gently rubbed it with a hint of flattery. âI just didnât think
this matter was worth bothering you.â
Upon hearing Rachelâs words, David didnât seem to feel any better. His brows furrowed, and his jaw
tightened. He still looked angry.
âThen tell me, what kind of situation is worth bothering me?â
His tone was flat, without emotional fluctuations, but the last upward inflection of
his voice made oneâs heart skip a beat.
Rachel swallowed her saliva. Her lips moved, but she heard David speak again. âDid I not tell you to
call me when something happened?â
Fine. She was really in the wrong this time.
Rachel nodded like a guilty child who had made a mistake.
Seeing her hanging her head and shrinking like a timid quail, David frowned imperceptibly and
continued to ask coldly, âDo you think I would just let you be, or do you think Iâm not qualified to back
you up?â
âI didnât think that way,â Rachel answered.
The incident happened too suddenly, and her first thought was to investigate the reason immediately.
Everything that followed was just her nature. Of course, she was somewhat selfish and did not want
David to get involved.
She reached out and tugged Davidâs shirt collar, slowly lifting her head. âIâm sorry. I⦠Mmm!â
Before she could finish her sentence, David grabbed her nape and leaned in before kissing her lips
fiercely.
His kiss was dominant and forceful, mixed with a touch of anger. He even bit her lip as if punishing her
so that she would remember her mistake.
However, every time he decided to punish her heartlessly, he couldnât bear it at the critical moment. He
ended up sucking her lips with both anger and annoyance.
Rachel felt like she was suffocating, and she pounded his chest with both hands. until David finally let
go of her.
David looked down at her, his dark eyes hiding his inherent dominance and overbearing nature.
Looking at her swollen lips, he gently rubbed them with his hand, wiping off the
saliva that had gotten on them. âThis is a one-off.â
Rachel looked up at him and nodded obediently.
When David took her hand and led her outside, she instinctively asked, âWhere are you taking me?â
David looked at her expressionlessly. âDoing what a fiance should do.â
Rachel was confused.
âDidnât you want to see your uncle?â
A hint of surprise flashed across Rachelâs eyes when she heard this.
Her reaction softened Davidâs stern expression slightly. âNow you understand the benefits of having me
as your fiance?â
âYes, I do.â Rachel laughed like a blooming flower and jumped to plant a soft kiss on his jawline. âThank
you, fiance.â
