Chapter 781
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 781
There was a photo on the phone screen.
In the photo, Haley was getting into a black Maybach. Judging from the license plate, it was
a local car. Behind the opened door, there appeared to be a silhouette.
It was hard to tell the manâs features, but he resembled David.
As Rachel tried hard to recall, an image of a face suddenly formed in her mind.
It was Julian, whom she had met once at a resort villa on a nearby island.
He was Noahâs son.
When the assistant got out of the car and opened the door, Haley lowered her body and got into the car
immediately.
Linda looked at Rachel nervously, trying to decipher her thoughts from the subtle changes. in her
expression. âI saw Haley at a nearby hotel when I was sending Mr. Geoffreyâs wife off today. I had
wanted to go up and greet her, but this car stopped in front of her.â
âPreviously, I accidentally eavesdropped on her call. I was worried that she would harm the company,
so I took a photo.â
Linda did not know what Haley was up to, nor did she know who the man in the car with Haley was.
However, the date of the Real Estate Summit was imminent upon them. And since Haley was in charge
of the summit, Linda feared she would stir trouble.
Rachel rested her elbow on the car window and held the steering wheel single-handedly. Her red lips
curled into a cold smirk. âThe human heart is always greedy.â
Previously, when Haley left Cruise Group and fell out with Olivia, Rachel was the one who took the
initiative to extend a helping hand to her.
Although Linda did not know why Rachel had taken Haley in the first place, Linda did not wish to
tarnish anyoneâs reputation with her speculation.
No one knew better than her how much damage gossip and prejudice could do.
Linda was torn. After pondering for a long time, she slowly said, âRae-Rae, why donât I ask her out to
talk tomorrow?â
Perhaps Haley had some difficulties. Or maybe it was just a misunderstanding?
She knew that Rachel thought highly of Haleyâs work and even wanted to groom Haley to
be her personal assistant.
After their interactions at works, Linda knew that with Haleyâs capabilities and diligence, she would
have no problem establishing a name for herself.
She was neither arrogant nor impatient when it came to work, nor did she have any complaints when
she needed to work overtime.
Rachel smiled. âThereâs no need.â
If anyone had anything to say, they would speak up without having to ask. If they did not want to reveal
anything, no amount of probing would get them to open up.
Even if they did say something in the end, it might not be trustworthy.
There was nothing as complicated and fickle-minded as the human heart.
Linda looked at Rachelâs slightly furrowed forehead. She hesitated and finally asked cautiously, âAre we
going to just sit and do nothing?â
Rachel threw a glance at her and smiled. âThe truth will be revealed one day.â
In contrast to the perturbed and apprehensive Linda, Rachel appeared exceptionally composed.
She did not appear disappointed either.
Back then, by switching sides and overthrowing Olivia, Haley had dealt a fatal blow to Olivia. In fact,
Rachel was the one who gained the most out of that. And all Rachel did after the incident was help
Haley out.
To put it bluntly, she and Haley were just taking what they needed.
She had hired Haley because she appreciated Haley for her change of heart at the last minute and
because she had taken a fancy to her work.
It was just a job. If you gave the correct remuneration, the receiving party would compensate with the
corresponding work efficiency. It was just a transaction. There was no loyalty to speak of.
After sending Linda back to her apartment building, Rachel bid her farewell and drove to her apartment.
Rachel went to work as usual the following morning.
It was almost noon when her uncle, Tom, called her, âYouâre still at work?â
âIâve been busy preparing for the Real Estate Summit recently.â Rachel picked up her cup and stood
up. She walked idly to the full-length window and looked down at the busy
street. âWhatâs the matter?â
Tom was about to reply when his wife, Eleanor, snatched the phone from him and said with a smile,
âItâs nothing. Itâs just that our family hasnât had a meal together for a long time. If you have time in the
afternoon, letâs go to Tastyhaus for a meal?â
Rachel contemplated the invitation.
Eleanor then added covertly, âLet me tell you a secret. Lucas is coming over with his prospective
partner for the marriage alliance. No matter what, she will be a relative in the future. Do you want to
come over and meet her?â
Prospective partner?
Rachel raised her eyebrows in astonishment. âSo soon?â
It had only been a week since her grandfather proposed the marriage alliance. Had Lucas already
decided on the prospective partner in such a short period?
Although they were just prospects, they still ought to screen the prospectâs family background carefully.
Were they too hasty in deciding?
Or did it make no difference, since they did not love each other?
âI was also shocked when Lucas told me he is bringing her home,â Eleanor spoke into the phone
casually. âIâve been busy with the marriage alliance since the day Lucas agreed to it. After what
happened previously, we have to consider each prospect carefully. I had a few candidates in mind, but
Lucas was dissatisfied with them. Who knew he would suddenly call this morning and say he had found
someone? He even suggested that we have lunch. together.â
âTom flared up at Lucas again because of this. He felt Lucas was too hasty and irresponsible to himself
and the girl. I got someone to look into that girlâs family background. Apparently, her family had
established a strong footing in Ceneturz in their early days, but later moved away. Nonetheless, her
family is affluent and is a typical noble family.â
After chatting with Rachel, Eleanor finally said, âAlright, letâs not talk about it anymore. We will speak
again when we meet.â
âOkay.â
After hanging up, Rachel packed up and left the office.
When she arrived at Tastyhaus, it was exactly eleven oâclock.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, Rachel took her phone out and sent a message. The
restaurant staff then led her into a private room on the third level.
There were bodyguards guarding the entrance of the third floor, but they did not stop
Rachel when they saw her.
John, who was standing at the door, went forward to greet Rachel immediately when he saw her. âMiss
Grey. This way, please.â
Rachel nodded slightly and pushed open the door.
Once inside the room, she saw Tom and Eleanor sitting at the head of the table.
Lucas was sitting on Tomâs right-hand side. And beside Lucas was a delicate-looking
woman.
The woman was about 25 years old. She had bangs which almost covered her pair of doe eyes. Her
eyes were big and clear, and she looked innocent with them.
Even though she appeared poised and elegant sitting in her chair, she could not conceal that air of
superiority and pride around her.
That aura emanated naturally from within her. It did not seem like she was pretending.
âRae-Rae, come sit over here.â Eleanor beckoned Rachel.
Rachel walked over obediently and sat beside Eleanor. When she looked up, her gaze met
the womanâs eyes.
