Chapter 783
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 783
Rachel and Miriam arrived at Times Square in Seaxas.
The two of them were not in a hurry to go shopping. Instead, they sat in a cafe and had some-snacks
and coffee for afternoon tea.
When the coffee was served, Rachel picked up a spoon and slowly stirred the coffee in front of her.
She lowered her gaze and quietly looked at the small whirlpool in the cup.
The two of them just sat there. Rachel had no intention of speaking first.
She guessed that Miriam did not ask her out just to drink coffee and relieve her boredom. She probably
had other plans.
As soon as this thought came to her mind, Miriam couldnât help but speak first. âActually, I asked you
out because I have something to ask you.â
âAbout Lucas?â Rachel raised her eyebrows and looked at Miriam.
Miriam nodded. She clasped her hands together to hide the nervousness in her heart. âActually, Iâve
only met him twice. There are many things that I canât ask him directly, so I can only come and ask
you.â
âYouâve only met twice in total?â There was an unconcealable shock in Rachelâs eyes.
She thought that the two of them had decided to get married despite not having much of a foundation
of love because they had spent some time together. She did not expect that they had only met twice.
She suddenly understood why Eleanor was holding her hand and telling her to have a good chat with
Lucas in private.
Not only did the two of them not take marriage seriously, but they were simply fooling
around.
Noticing the frost in Rachelâs eyes, Miriam quickly explained, âAlthough we havenât been together for
long, Iâm serious about him.â
No matter how one looked at it, it sounded like there was something else going on.
âWhat do you want to ask?â A meaningful smile flashed across Rachelâs eyes.
Seeing that Rachel had taken the initiative to speak, Miriam did not hide anything. âI wanted to ask you
if there have been any other women by your brotherâs side all these years? Or perhaps those kinds of
women?â
A woman would not be able to accept her future husband having another woman in his
heart, no matter how accepting and generous she was. Miriam was the same.
Moreover, the education she had received since she was young had taught her never to compromise.
She would treat this marriage as if it had never happened if there was another woman in
Lucasâs heart.
Rachel seemed to have seen through Miriamâs thoughts. The corners of her lips curled up slightly. âNo.
Ever since he stepped down, he has been busy with his business and doesnât have the mood to play
with women.â
Hearing this, Miriam secretly heaved a sigh of relief, and the nervous expression on her face faded a
little.
Rachel
met?â
put down the spoon in her hand and said calmly, âCan you tell me how you two
âThe first time I met him was five years ago. At that time, he was not like this. Instead, he was a famous
figure in the military region. Everyone called him a genius sniper. He was also a mythical existence in
the military region. I accidentally barged into the territory of illegal criminals while I was wandering
outside aloneâ¦â
Miriam did not hide anything and calmly told the story of her first encounter with Lucas.
From catching a glimpse of Lucas to developing a silent crush, she kept how she had had a crush on
Lucas for five years brief.
However, only Miriam herself knew what it felt like to have a crush on someone for five
years.
âI heard that the Johnson family was interested in a marriage alliance, and I felt that my background
was worthy of him, so I recommended myself.â
At this point, an awkward expression appeared on Miriamâs face.
âIâm curious. With your background, would your family agree to let you marry so far away into Seaxas?â
Rachel looked at her calmly. She still had some doubts in her heart. âWith your background, marrying
into the Johnson family is a little unfair to you.â
Moreover, with the Waller familyâs prestige in the south, the wealthiest family in Seaxas, the Johnson
family, might not be worthy of their attention.
Miriam shrugged nonchalantly. âIsnât getting married between Lucas and me?â
In other words, what did it have to do with outsiders?
Hearing her matter-of-fact tone, Rachel was speechless.
What she said made sense. It was irrefutable.
Back then, she had thought the same when she wanted to marry David.
âMy family has always known that I have someone I like, so they wonât stop me from marrying Lucas.â
Miriam noticed the smile on Rachelâs face and mistakenly thought that she felt that this marriage was
unreliable. She quickly explained, âIf my grandmother knew that I was getting married to the person I
like, she would definitely approve of it.â
A hint of pride and confidence appeared on her face when she mentioned her grandmother. It was as if
she had a royal edict.
Rachel guessed that the reason why Miriam was so confident and ostentatious was that she had Old
Mrs. Wallerâs tacit support all these years.
However, she still had some reservations about what Miriam said.
After all, marriage alliances also required people of equal social status. Could the Waller family really
accept the Johnson family without prejudice?
âRae-Rae, can you answer a few of my questions?â
âAsk away.â
As soon as she finished speaking, Miriam took out a notepad and a pen from her bag.
There were all kinds of questions about Lucas in the notepad.
Most of them were about his preferences.
She asked and Rachel answered.
Miriam meticulously recorded every answer Rachel gave.
Rachel was ashamed of her inferiority.
She could also sense that Miriam was serious about Lucas.
The two of them chatted until three in the afternoon. When they left, Rachel specially instructed
someone to send Miriam a bracelet. âThis is for you. Take it as a gift for our first meeting.â
âBut I-I didnât prepare anythingâ¦â Miriam was at a loss.
To be honest, she was spoiled since she was young as she had been born in the Waller family. She
had seen all kinds of rare treasures, but she did not dare to accept the bracelet sent by Rachel.
This was probably the nervousness and uneasiness she felt when she was meeting a family
member of the person she loved.
She was afraid that Rachel would be annoyed if she did something wrong, and she was even more
afraid of leaving a bad impression. In short, she was timid and careful.
âThereâs no need to feel pressured about a small gift.â Rachel stuffed the item into her hand. âMoreover,
in my opinion, youâre very outstanding. My brother isnât worthy of you.â
Judging from his behavior at the dining table, he did not realize Miriamâs feelings for him at
all.
Miriam was very happy to be recognized by a member of Lucasâs family. âThank you.â
âYouâre too kind.â
Just as Rachel was about to turn around and leave, Miriam grabbed her hand.
Then, she realized how powerless her actions were and smiled awkwardly. Then, she slowly let go and
said cautiously, âRae-Rae, can you not tell your brother about our
conversation this afternoonâ¦â
She wanted to understand Lucas, but she did not dare to act rashly for fear of attracting
Lucasâs disgust. She could only ask Rachel what she wanted to know.
At the same time, she was worried that Lucas would misunderstand her intentions if this matter was
exposed.
