Chapter 838
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 838
Rachel did not say anything. She only stared at him for a moment,
She did not know if it was her imagination, but she felt Ronnieâs words seemed to have a hidden
meaning.
She pondered for a moment and smiled. âThank you, Mr. Dickens.â
With that, she left.
Ronnieâs gaze followed her back until the tall and slender figure disappeared from his sight.
At that moment, he turned slightly and glanced toward the corridorâs comer. A faint glimmer of indistinct
coldness flickered in his eyes as he murmured. âThose who eavesdrop generally do not meet a good
end.â
Louis, who was hiding in the corner, was slightly stunned.
He thought his position would go unnoticed, but he did not expect the other party to know everything.
After hesitating for half a second, Louis slowly walked out from the corner of the corridor. âI didnât mean
to eavesdrop.â Ronnie raised his eyes and glanced at him indifferently. âDid Mr. Smith especially come
to look for me?â
âYes.â Louis did not hide anything. âTo be honest, I want South Valleyâs land.â
He desires even more to gain control over South Valley!
The bidding tonight seemed to be a fair competition, but rumors were spreading like wildfire.
Everyone was talking about South Valleyâs would land in the hands of Jimmy!
Although the rumors were unreliable, Louis knew very well that there was no such thing as an
impenetrable wall in this world.
Now that such a rumor had appeared, it was most likely that everyone had vaguely sensed something.
Moreover, seeing members of the Shain family conversing joyfully with David at the banquet tonight
further solidifies Louisâs belief that the rumors are not baseless.
With the Smith familyâs strength, he was not worthy of competing with the Shain family. However, he
was unwilling to give up the benefits that were about to reach his grasp.
After thinking about it, he only hoped that Ronnie could help him.
Ronnie raised his eyebrows slightly and glanced at him with a faint smile. âWhat makes you think Iâll
help you?â
âI know that the Shain family intends to interfere with South Valleyâs land, Louis said. âAnd the Shain
family has always obeyed Davidâs orders. If they get this land, Iâm afraid Mr. Diekensâs business in
South Valley will not be good
Ronnieâs eyes were lowered, making it impossible to see the emotions in his eyes.
He rubbed the bone ring on his index finger with his fingertips. The corners of his mouth curled up
slightly, like a blooming poppy, dangerous and charming. âI think Mr. Smith put a lot of effort into me to
know this.â
âI wouldnât dare. Louisâs eyes flickered with a hint of panic as he explained, âMr. Dickens, despite being
new to the city, has managed to establish in Seaxas in just a few months. You had already become a
well-known person that everyone in Seaxas knows. Itâs not difficult to gather information about you.â
âI came here specifically to look for Mr. Diekens to cooperate with yous sincerely. He paused and
continued, âAs long as you are willing to help me get the land of South Valley, I will not interfere in your
business matters.â
Hearing this, a hint of mockery flashed across Ronnieâs eyes. âTll consider it carefully.â
With that, he walked away.
The buzz-cut man followed behind him and muttered in a low voice, âWho is he? Heâs not worthy of
negotiating with us.â Ronnie looked up at him. âA blind man who thinks heâs smart is not worthy.â
It was understandable that Ronnie thought he was smart enough, but being a blind manâ¦.
He turned to look at Louis, who was still standing there. âMr. Diekens, is he blind?â
Ronnie glanced at him. âYou mistook fish eyes for pearls. He canât be more blind!â
The buzz-cut man was confused.
His small head was full of question marks.
On the other side, as Rachel walked towards David, she saw a few people sitting beside him from afar.
Jimmy and Landon were among them. There was also Che Shannon from the north of the city and
Daniel Trent from the west.
The four of them sat together and looked like they were standing on four legs.
Rachel did not go over to disrupt him. Instead, she walked to the buffet table and chose an exquisite
cupcake.
Mary sneaked over from behind her. Iâve been looking for you for a long time. So youâre hiding here to
steal food.â
âDo you want to try it?â Rachel said, handing her the cupcake.
Mary looked at her happily eating, and a hint of suspicion appeared in her eyes. âI thought you didnât
like sweets in the past?â
Rachel did not think much about it. âPreference changes, right?â
âIs that so?â Mary scrutinized her. She seemed to have thought of something and grabbed Rachelâs
arm. âCome here! I have something to tell you!â
She dragged Rachel to an empty corner and looked around nervously. âRae-Rae, donât tell me you are
pregnant!â
Hearing her words, Rachel was stunned.
Although she did not understand why Mary would have such thoughts, she explained patiently, âNo,
donât let imagination run wild.â
your
âNo?â Mary was skeptical. âBut I heard that the sudden change in appetite is most likely because sheâs
pregnantâ¦â
Rachel laughed. âDonât overthink about it.â
âIâm just worried about you.â Mary said, âGirls are the easiest to take advantage of. Iâm just afraid that
youâll do something stupid in the heat of the moment.â
She muttered to herself. Although she was long-winded, she was filled with concern for Rachel.
When Kyle was looking for her, Mary had no choice but to leave first. âIâll go over first. Iâll look for you
later.â
âGoâ Rachel slowly lowered her eyes as she watched Mary leave.
However, Maryâs words left a significant impact on her heart.
Pregnantâ¦
She had never thought about this before, nor had she thought about what her child with David would be
like. However, Maryâs words suddenly made her feel more hopeful while fantasizing.
As she was thinking, a voice sounded behind her. âMiss Greyâ
Hearing the familiar voice, Rachel did not turn around. A faint coldness appeared between her
eyebrows. âMr. Smith, whatâs the matter?â
Louis walked up to Rachel with a glass of wine in his hand. His gaze was fixed on Rachel, and his eyes
were filled with indistinct emotions. âIt seems like we havenât seen each other for a long time.â
âThereâs no need for us to meet, right?â Rachel asked.
Her expression was indifferent and cold, as cold and elegant as a rose on a snowy mountain. She was
exceptionally charming.
Louis pursed his lips and raised his head to finish the wine in his glass. âYou might think that I did
something wrong to you in the past, but what about you? You lied to me all the time. Only do I know
now that youâre the daughter of the richest man, the Johnson family. Weâve been together for three
years, but you hid it from me all these while and kept me in the dark like a fool. Isnât there fault with you
on this?â
âIf it wasnât for the fact that I happened to attend the bidding today, Iâm afraid I would still be kept in the
dark!â Louisâs gaze gradually became dark as he looked at her. âRachel, did you love me at all? How
sincere are you to me?â
Rachel did not have the patience to listen to his nonsense. She turned around and left.
As they brushed past each other, Louis grabbed her wrist.
