Chapter 847
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 847
Rachel raised her hand and touched Ethanâs head. She said casually, âYouâre now behaving like a
devoted woman accusing a fuckboy.â
Upon hearing that, a hint of disdain appeared on Ethanâs face. âNo one would be with a person like him
who spoils the mood unless they had sinned in their previous life.â
When Rachel heard that, a meaningful smile flashed across her eyes.
She thought, âSomeone who had sinned in their previous lifeâ¦.
âThis description is quite appropriate.â
âThereâs only one material left now,â Lucas said.
âYes and no.â Ethan looked at Lucas with a faint smile. According to my analysis, I found out that this
last substance is synthesized from many substances. According to our current speculation, there are at
least ten.â
Hearing this, Lucasâs face suddenly darkened. âThis is different from our initial guess.â
It could even be said to have overturned their guess from three years ago.
From the initial four substances to the current synthesis of ten substances, the deciphering cycle had
been completely prolonged
At first, Lucas thought that as long as these four substances were deciphered, an antidote could be
developed to suppress the poison in Rachelâs body. But now, it seemed there was hope, but it was
illusory.
No one knew how long it would take to decipher this synthetic substance and if Rachel could wait until
that day. Ethan knew this outcome was unacceptable, but this was just how cruel the reality was.
After pondering for a moment, Ethan said unhurriedly. âPreviously, we speculated repeatedly, but we
failed repeatedly. To decipher it, we even retrieved thousands of herbs from the database and tested
them one by one, but without exception, all the attempts failed.â
There was no progress until Ethan met the legendary Mr. Diekens a few days ago.
Sometimes, it seemed that life was unpredictable, but destiny had its own plans.
Wasnât the present predicament the consequence of past actions?
At the thought of that, Ethan lowered his eyes to hide the emotions in them. He was a little depressed.
âI was careless this time.â
Lucas did not speak. He held a cigarette between his fingers. When his thin lips parted to speak, gray
smoke enveloped him. making it impossible to see his emotions. âHow long will it take?
âIâm not sure,â Ethan said. âBut based on the analysis of the potion that Rae-Rae gave me last time, I
found that the potion can effectively suppress the onset of the disease without any side effects.â
This could be considered good news among the bad news.
Howeverâ¦
When Rachel thought of that potion, she could not help but think of Ronnie.
When that potion appeared before Rachel, she thought the other party was plotting something.
She was not trying to judge Ronnie with her narrow-mindedness, but the relationship between Ronnie
and David was like oil and water. She could not help but read too much into it.
But now, she felt the need to have a chat with Ronnie.
While Rachel was in a daze, Lucas and Ethan chatred about her engagement to David.
-When Ethan found out about the engagement, he was not too shocked. Instead, he was a bit
surprised to find out that Rachel
had agreed to Davidâs proposal.
You agreed just like that?â Ethan looked at Rachel.
Rachel snapped out of her thoughts. She hesitated for a second before nodding.
Before Rachel could say anything. Ethan said, with disdain, âWhatâs so good about Aureliana? Itâs just
a dog-eat-dog place with a group of self-proclaimed noble fools. You could do better than marry David
and settle down there.â
Rachel was speechless.
In this world, only Ethan would dare to mock and belittle the people of Aureliana.
After all, in the eyes of others, Aureliana was a good place where every inch of land was worth a
fortune.
an engagement. Thereâs still a long way to go before we get married,â Rachel said.
A hint of mockery flashed across Ethanâs eyes. âYouâre already engaged. Getting married is just a
matter of time.â
The three of them chatted in the research institute. In the blink of an eye, it was six in the afternoon.
As Ethan watched Rachel and Lucas leave, his expression slowly turned solemn.
His gaze gradually turned to the evening glow in the distant sky, and a trace of absent-mindedness
appeared in his eyes. Ethan remembered the fire many years ago. It was as red and glaring as the
evening glow tonight.
He thought escaping was the best choice but did not expect it to be just the beginning.
It seemed that no matter how hard he tried to escape, he would always follow the path set out by God
and return to the starting point.
There was no way to break free.
He took a deep breath, took out his phone, walked to a blind spot in the surveillance camera, and
dialed a number.
âIâm the only one at the research institute now.â
After hanging up, he turned around and left.
On the other end, Rachel and Lucas left. Rachel glanced at the time and planned to see Aileen at the
hospital.
She had also been looking for a doctor to remove the bullet from Aileenâs body, but things were not as
simple as she thought.
Therefore, until a suitable person was found, Aileen had been recuperating in the hospital.
âWhat are you thinking about?â Lucas glanced at the quiet Rachel
Rachel looked up at Lucas and shook her head gently. âHowâs the Grey family?â
âItâs naturally useless to use a mild method to deal with a despicable person like that.â At the mention of
Hans, a hint of disgust appeared in Lucasâs eyes. His words were filled with faint ridicule. âThe Grey
family was sued some time ago because of their factoryâs sewage problem. I tried to fan the flames. If
Hans wants to save the Grey family, heâd better behave himself.
As long as Hans knew his place, behaved himself, and dealt with the factoryâs sewage problem
according to the rules and regulations, the Grey familyâs difficulties would be easily resolved. If Hans
still wanted to take advantage of the situation, he would be courting death.
Therefore, whether the Grey family could survive the ordeal depended on Hansâs choice instead of
what Lucas did.
Rachel nodded. âI hope he will learn his lesson.â
Lucasâs eyes were slightly mocking. âTo be honest, I didnât expect him to have the cheek to appear
before you.
Even more unexpectedly, Hans could shamelessly talk about his father-daughter relationship with
Rachel. Their father-daughter relationship?
Back then, a thinly dressed Rachel was thrown into the snow. Had they not arrived in time, Rachel
would have frozen to death.
Back then, Hans treated Rachel that way because he found her a burden.
Now that Hans saw that Rachel had some value, he shamelessly claimed that he was Rachelâs father.
He was really shameless to the extreme!
Rachel turned her head to look out the window at the scenery outside. She said unhurriedly. âThere are
many things in this world that no one can imagine.â
As they spoke, the car arrived at the entrance of the private hospital.
When Rachel arrived at the ward, Aileen was not in the room.
Just as Rachel took out her phone to make a call, Aileen, who was sitting in a wheelchair, appeared in
her line of sight.
âRae-Rac.â
âWhere did you go?â Rachel put her phone in her pocket and walked over quickly.
Aileen maneuvered her wheelchair with both hands and said calmly, âI went out for some fresh air. Iâm
bored to death staying in the room all day.
