Chapter 91
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Perhaps the heavens had sensed Davidâs eagerness for rain, the rain gradually became heavier, and
there were faint signs of a storm.
David ran into the car in the rain and successfully drenched himself. He also asked the driver to turn on
the air conditioner in the car. As expected, David sensed that his body temperature was a little
abnormal in the middle of the night.
David took out a thermometer and measured it. It was 101.3°F.
David got up and threw all the fever medicine and cold medicine the servants had prepared into the
toilet bowl to flush them away. Then, David returned to the bed and revealed a satisfied smile.
The next morning, the sun was shining brightly.
After last nightâs heavy rain, the air was faintly filled with the smell of grass and earth.
Rachel changed her clothes and was about to go downstairs. When Rachel opened the door, she
happened to meet Mrs. Brown who passed by the door.
âGood morning, Miss Grey.â Mrs. Brown greeted Rachel with a smile when she saw Rachel. Sensing
that Rachelâs gaze was on the decoction in her hand, Mrs. Brown hurriedly explained, âMr. Jones was
fine yesterday. However, he suddenly had a fever this morning. I think it was probably because he was
drenched in the rain last night. I donât know where the fever medicine at home went, so I brewed some
heatârelieving decoction for him first.â
Rachel couldnât help but be worried. âHave you informed the doctor?â
âYes.â At the mention of this, Mrs. Brown could not help.but sigh. âBut Mr. Jones has never liked to take
medicine. I have no choice.â
âGive it to me.â Rachel raised her hand and fiddled with the hair by her ear to hide the unnatural look
that flashed across her face.
Mrs. Brown was stunned for a moment. She secretly sized up Rachel, and a fleeting smile appeared in
her eyes. âThank you, Miss Grey.â
Rachel pursed her lips and took the tray with both hands.
After watching Mrs. Brown leave, Rachel turned around and walked toward Davidâs bedroom with the
decoction.
Rachel knocked on the door and heard Davidâs low and hoarse voice. âCome in!â
Rachel pushed open the door and realized that David was not resting on the bed. Instead, he was
flipping through a document in his hand.
Compared to his usual dress of a black shirt, today, David was wearing dark blue pajamas. The outline
of his collarbone and his sexy Adamâs apple could be vaguely seen at the collar.
The thin pajamas clung to Davidâs body, vaguely outlining his strong and sexy chest muscles.
His sleeves were rolled up, revealing firm arms. The blue blood vessels protruded, looking especially
strong.
âGet out after putting the things down.â Davidâs indifferent voice sounded in the quiet bedroom,
revealing an indifference that kept people a thousand miles away.
Perhaps sensing that the person didnât move, David raised his eyes and his pitchâblack gaze pierced
straight through with a piercing coldness.
That boneâchilling gaze was like a dagger pressed against Rachelâs heart. Rachel held her breath and
tightened her grip on the tray. Her legs went weak as if she was stepping on clouds, and she did not
dare to move.
When David saw Rachel, the coldness in his eyes disappeared in an instant, and a gentle smile
appeared. âWhy are you up so early?â
David closed the document in his hand and waved at Rachel.
Rachel took a deep breath, pursed her lips, and walked toward David with the tray. âI heard from Mrs.
Brown that you have a fever.â
Rachel placed the tray on the bedside table and raised her hand to test the temperature of Davidâs
forehead with the back of her hand. Rachel frowned slightly. âYou didnât take your medicine?â
âItâs fine.â David pulled Rachelâs hand from his forehead, his fingers caressing the protruding joints of
her wrist.
Rachelâs originally slightly cold fingers on Davidâs palm instantly became hot. Rachel looked at Davidâs
unusually red face and the worry between her brows intensified. âHow can you not take medicine?â
As she spoke, Rachel stood up and prepared to get the first aid kit.
