Chapter 80 - Slumber Party, Witchcraft and Friends - Part 3

The Sight (bxb)

Close to midnight, Olivia came to warn them that they would all be getting up early in the morning, as Michael had to be able to drive them to Marwell and then back. She didn't want to spoil their fun, but they all knew that Evan would be in trouble at home if he didn't make it to school the next day. So they decided it was time to go to bed.

"Fun fact, we didn't just tell you about Rory by coincidence," Evan addressed Michael after they had adjusted the covers, and looked like they were ready for sleep.

"What a surprise," Michael mumbled, giving Evan a look as if he should consider if he really wanted to bug him.

"We think he might be a witch's weave," Ryan said bluntly, not waiting for Evan's careful explanation. Michael immediately looked surprised, and so did Angie. Just as she hadn't told Rory about being a she-wolf, he hadn't talked to her about witches. Fortunately, Angie planned to tell Rory the truth, so Evan and Ryan figured they could involve her in the plan.

"What?" Michael asked, making sure he'd heard correctly.

"Everything points to that. We think that's why he knows about magic in the first place. Now we're just trying to verify it," Ryan explained, and Evan turned to him in amusement but didn't correct him. His mate was giving him credit he didn't deserve, but he wasn't going to argue.

"Verify how?" Michael asked, still confused, at the same moment Angie uttered: "What the hell is a weave?"

Michael's attention immediately curled to her, and he stared at her as if he couldn't believe his own ears. Apparently knowing what the soulmates of other creatures were called was a basic knowledge that Angie (and once upon a time Evan) lacked.

"Weave is a witch's soulmate," Evan interjected right away. He'd been in her shoes until recently and knew how uncomfortable it was to know the least in the room.

Angie's eyes sparkled with recognition, and it was obvious that she had put 2 and 2 together. "Alexander?"

"Yeah," Evan nodded immediately. "But we don't like him yet."

"He didn't say anything to Rory, but he threw him into the world of the supernatural," Ryan added, and then immediately echoed Evan's words, "We don't like him yet."

"That's fucked up," Angie assessed, frowning. "Can't we go scare him a little?" Though her face showed an unusual innocence, everyone in the room could see invisible horns flickering in her hair. This girl didn't like it when anyone messed with her friends, and if she hadn't been restrained, she would give hell to Alexander. Even his magic wouldn't help him.

"You still haven't answered my question," Michael reminded, and though he had been listening in on their conversation, it was obvious that he didn't care, since he didn't know who they were talking about anyway.

"Sure." Ryan immediately turned back to him. "We were in the supernatural library..."

He didn't finish his sentence as Angie interrupted her with a loud: "Where?" Again, she responded exactly as Evan expected and he felt better about his lack of knowledge.

"Apparently each pack has a library that contains all the knowledge of the supernatural world that the pack has accumulated," Evan explained to her right away.

"And you didn't tell me?" Angie's reproach was directed at the black-haired boy near her, and Michael looked puzzled as if he didn't understand why he should have such an obligation.

"You took me to a pack meeting, made me listen about safety protocols, and you didn't think to tell me about the supernatural library? Seriously? Finally, something interesting and I don't know about it," she immediately took to explaining her irritation.

"I've never seen you with a book in your hand," he retorted immediately.

"So what? I'd read about supernatural beings," was her reply. Before she could say more, however, this time Ryan interrupted her.

"Can we focus please?" Fortunately, Angie decided to put the argument aside and nodded, and Michael following her example did as well.

"Great." Ryan assessed. "Evan and I were in the supernatural library looking for something about weaves and generally about soulmates who are human. We didn't find much, but we decided to take it in bits and pieces."

He paused for a moment as if thinking of the best words to explain it so his friends would understand right away, and then continued in the same firm tone, "We found a ritual. It's supposed to help reveal a soulmate, and even a human should be able to do it. We thought we'd test it out since we're the perfect guinea pigs for it. We haven't said anything to Rory yet as we don't want to give him false hopes." He quickly added the last part and Angie immediately nodded, agreeing.

"This ritual... do you need our help to do this?" Michael asked.

"Actually, no," Evan answered him this time. "It's pretty stupid. Exactly something you'd imagine at a slumber party. I've gotten Rose Quartz from Lola, our friend, and otherwise, we should have everything we need."

"Rose Quartz?" Michael repeated like it was the stupidest thing he'd ever heard.

"I told you it was stupid."

"So how does it work?" Angie immediately asked, and she seemed to be literally enthralled with the ritual.

Evan just shook his head in amusement at his friend but decided not to ruin her joy.

"It's actually supposed to be a secret ritual if we understand it correctly. One of us is supposed to sleep through it, so it actually only takes one person to do it," Evan explained, immediately piercing Angie with his gaze as he saw the look on her face when he said someone had to sleep through it. He had no doubt that all sorts of perversions had popped into her head.

"Okay, so sleep, Rose Quartz... what next?" Michael twisted the conversation back to serious.

"One of us should use his chain and secretly steal his partner's ring." Ryan indicated the quotation marks with the word secretly.

"I'm assuming you're the one with the chain since Evan has a collection of rings," Angie interjected immediately.

"That's the plan," Ryan nodded. They honestly hadn't planned it for very long, since they both kind of had an idea of who was going to do what. After all, they both knew what jewellery they owned.

"So Evan will go to sleep and we'll stay up," Michael assessed. "Where are the markers?"

Evan gave him a look that made it clear he wasn't amused. The same couldn't be said for Angie, who seemed to be really considering his words.

"Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on them," Ryan leaned over and whispered in his ear.

"Alright, alright, what are we waiting for?"

"Nothing really," Evan replied, automatically moving to where he was supposed to sleep tonight.

"I'm telling you right now, I'm not going to fall asleep if you keep staring at me," he pointed out the moment he lay down under the covers and three pairs of eyes narrowed on him.

"Split up into teams?" Angie suggested.

"Works for me," Michael said surprisingly, lying down on the other mattress on the floor, leaving enough of a gap between him and Evan for Ryan to fit in afterwards.

Everyone was stunned for a moment, not knowing what to say. All except Michael, who closed his eyes contentedly and decided to go to sleep.

Ryan was the first to recover and clear his throat. "Okay, Angie and I will be in the kitchen. We'll be back later, and we'll wake you up if anything happens."

"Okay," Evan agreed, getting comfortable in his place. If he hadn't been sleepy, he would have wondered if it was a good idea to leave his boyfriend and best friend alone, but this way he could only hope she wouldn't say anything stupid to him.

Angie moved from the couch, stepping carefully over the two lying boys, and she and Ryan made their way to the kitchen.

"She'll tell him all the embarrassing stories about you," Michael muttered without opening his eyes.

Evan rolled onto his other side facing the black-haired boy and opened his eyes. "Will they scare him away?"

"No," Michael answered immediately, finally opening his eyes as well.

"Then I don't see any problem," Evan replied nonchalantly and closed his eyes contentedly, continuing to drift off to sleep. He could still feel Michael's gaze on him for a moment, but since he didn't speak to him again, he figured their conversation was over.

It wasn't long before Evan was sound asleep.

When he suddenly awoke to a scream, for a moment he had no idea where he was. He opened his eyes groggily, and when he rolled over onto his back, he nearly had a heart attack when he realized two people were bending over him. Luckily, he quickly realized that it was his boyfriend and best friend.

"You said wake up," the boy next to him mumbled. "Not cause a heart attack." Evan had almost forgotten that he had fallen asleep next to Michael and when he looked over at him, he realized that the boy had woken up as well. Maybe even earlier, since he'd managed to cover his head with a pillow to restrict his hearing.

"Sorry." Angie immediately apologized, admitting that she was the one who had been yelling earlier. "I'm just excited."

"Did it work?" Evan finally realized what was actually going on and sat up, rubbing his eyes.

"It did, soulmate." Ryan was grinning from ear to ear as he said it, and Evan couldn't keep his cheeks from flushing. He was too sleepy to resist his charm.

"So we have a plan?" was Evan's next question. His tone sounded like he didn't care, but the opposite was true.

"We have a battle plan for Rory," Ryan agreed with a smile.

"Great. Now come to bed," Evan declared, lying back down. A small smile appeared on his face as he realized what had actually happened and was glad that they could finally properly help his friend. It was too early in the morning to put it into words, though.

He heard Angie chuckle, but his eyes were long closed, so he just assumed she was laughing at him. He decided to deal with it in the morning, though.

There was a moment of rustling with the duvet and shifting of the mattress as Angie passed his head, and then there was silence.

When he felt the warmth of another body against his back, he automatically snuggled closer and felt Ryan pull him against him, wrapping his arms around his waist and resting his head against his shoulder.

"Good night, love."
