The One Night Stand Turns Out To Be My Professor
72
Sophiaâs POV
The doorbell rang for the second time in a row and I groaned as I got up from my bed, dropping the book I was reading and walking out of my room, down the stairs and then int the living room. I walked straight to the door and opened it without even checking to see who it was. I automatically knew it would be Jacob or Ian. Or Jenny. And if it wasnât any of them then whoever it was wouldnât be able to come inside if they werenât human.
But it was Jacob and Ian standing in front of the door. Jacob had a bored look on his face while Ian had a grin on his face, a bouquet of flowers in his hands.
I beamed instantly, staring at the flowers with what I was sure was an adorable look and then taking them from him. âIs there an occasion?â I asked as I turned away and wallked back into the house, going straight for the kitchen.
âDo we need to have an occasion before I bring my girl flowers?â He demanded and a blush crept up my cheeks as I placed the flowers into a small vase and then rinsed my hand before going to the living room where they were.
âWell,â I began, sitting beside him and snuggling into his open arms. âYouâre the sweetest. Thank you so much for the flowers. Theyâre really beautiful.â I gave him a peck on the cheek which he reciprocated with a peck on my head.
âSo you like them?â He asked and I nodded my head in confirmation.
âOf course I do. Theyâre really pretty,â I told him. âThank you so much.â
âIâm glad you like them. I was scared that they might not be the kind of flowers you like,â he mumbled against my forehead and I snorted.
âYou know the kinds of flowers I like and you know thatâs part of the kinds of flowers I like,â I replied with a roll of my eyes.
He chuckled and then paused, looking around. âWhereâs Jenny?â He asked.
âI was just about to ask the same thing,â Jacob mumbled, getting up from the couch. âIs she up in her room?â
I shook my head slowly, disentangling myself from Ian. âNo. Sheâs not.
Jacobâs eyes nearly popped out of its sockers as hestared at me. âSheâs not?â He asked, his eyes wide
Ian had gone rigid beside me and my own heart was even thumpimg against my chest hard. Fuck. How did I just let her go out on her own knowing fully well that Ian and Jacob were coming here today and they were going to make a scene if they knew she was out all on her own.
âYes,â I replied slowly.
âWhere did she go?â Ian asked. His voice had shifted into that dangerously calm mode I knew all too well and I didnât like it. That was like the calm before the storm. âAnd donât you dare lie to me, Sophia.â
âYou both should be calm,â I said, feigning calmness even though I was scared to my bones at the moment. âShe just stepped out for a moment not quite long ago.â
âShe just stepped out for a moment?â Jacob barked. âWhy didnât you step out with her? Why didnât you go to wherever she was planning to go to together?â
âIâ¦uhâ¦I didnât think thereâs be a need to. She didnât tell me she was going out,â I replied, going into defense mode. âJenny is not a small girl, okay? Sheâs going to come back and if sheâs in danger sheâs going to call one of us. She just stepped out. Maybe she decided to use that opportunity to get some things.â
âThat better be the case,â Jacob growled and I narrowed my eyes at him. He wasnât supposed to be talking to me that way but I just ignored it, considering that he was worried about Jenny just as I was worried.
But I couldnât let it show. I had to act like everything was fine and no one was missing. Althougjt it was going to be quite hard to do that. I wanted nothing more than to go out right now and start looking for her but I kept forcing myself to be calm because of I didnât want them both to realize I had purposely let her go all by herself.
âYou and I,â Ian began as he got up, his eyes narrowing on me. It was like he could see right through me. Of course he could. Who did I think I was fooling by trying to pretend that I wasnât worried? It really wasnât working on anyone. I bet Jacob could see right through me.
He began walking to the door and Jacob followed behind him. My heart was still thumping hard in my chest. âWhere are you both going?â I demanded, my eyes darting between the both of them as I jumped to my feet.
âWeâre going to find her,â Jacob snapped at me.
âIâm coming with you,â I said quickly, rushing after them but Ian spun around on his heels instantly, facing me.
âNo. Youâre not,â he replied icily. Normally, that tone would have left me cowering back but not now. Jennyâs life might be in danger and I wasnât going to allow them to tell me to sit at home and do nothing.
âYes, I am,â I replied, squaring my shoulders and narrowing my eyes at him.
âNo, youâre not,â he deadpanned, his eyes narrowing at me right back. âYouâre not coming with us.â
âWhy not?â I demanded, folding my arms as I glared at him.
âBecause I canât let myself worry about you and Jenny at the same time. If youâre here then I know youâre at least safe Iâm her and no one will harm you. But when youâre with me, I have to worry about both Jenny and you. I donât want that. So can you please try not to be stubborn this one time, and just stay here?â
I gulped, biting my lips me stepping back without a word.
âGood,â he mumbled as he turned around and walked out of the house with Jacob. I went to the door and locked it so I was safe.
I ran my hands through my hair, cussing myself for letting her step out all by herself. I should have gone with her and now I had to start worrying all about her.
If anything at all happened to herâ¦I wonât ever be able to forgive myself.
