The One Night Stand Turns Out To Be My Professor
88
Sophiaâs POV
I could feel the strength returning to my body and my mind getting stronger each day. The darkness that had clouded my thoughts was lifting, replaced by a sharp awareness that made everything seem more vivid. I hadnât felt this alive in weeks, and it was relieving. It was as if Iâd been underwater, struggling to breathe, and now Iâd finally surfaced, gasping for air.
But with that clarity, I also realized just how dangerous our situation had become.
I sat on the couch in the living room, surrounded by the people who had become my family. Ian sat beside me, my body touching his slightly, while Jenny was on my other side, her hand resting reassuringly on my knee. Across from us, Jacob leaned against the wall, his arms crossed, his expression unreadable. Lyanna and Mike, both looking serious, completed our circle, the tension in the room almost physical.
âWe need to talk about what happened,â Ian said, breaking the silence. His voice was calm, but I could hear the concern underneath. âThe hunters arenât going to stop.â
âTheyâve already come too close,â Mike added, his tone grave. âThey almost killed Sophia. That means theyâre getting bolder, more desperate.â
I nodded, the memory of being bound and helpless still fresh in my mind. âThey knew exactly where to find me,â I said, my voice low. âThey knew how to weaken me. That wasnât a random attackâthey were prepared.â
âItâs like theyâve been tracking us,â Jenny said, her brow furrowed. âBut how? Weâve been careful, havenât we?â
Lyanna, who had been silent until now, leaned forward, her expression thoughtful. âItâs possible they have access to magic,â she said quietly. âThere are spells that can trace supernatural beings, even vampires. If they have a witch working with them, that could explain how theyâve been able to find us.â
âGreat,â Jacob muttered, running a hand through his hair. âJust what we needâmore enemies.â
âIs there any way to counteract it?â Ian asked, turning to Lyanna. âCan we break the spell, or block it somehow?â
Lyanna nodded. âThere are protections we can use. Wards, cloaking spells⦠I can set them up around the house and the places you frequent. It wonât make us invisible, but itâll make it much harder for them to track you.â
âDo it,â Ian said without hesitation. âWhatever it takes to keep them off our trail.â
I watched Lyanna closely, appreciating the calm and confident way she spoke. Her knowledge was priceless in situations like this. Knowing she was on our side made me feel a little safer.
But there was still the matter of the hunters themselves.
âWhat do we know about them?â I asked, my gaze shifting to Mike. âWho are they? And why are they so determined to wipe us out?â
Mike sighed, leaning back in his chair. âVampire hunters have been around for centuries. They see themselves as protectors of humanity, defenders against the âmonstersâ that threaten the world. Theyâve always been a problem, but theyâre usually disorganized, working in small groups. This⦠this feels different.â
âHow so?â I pressed, needing to understand the full scope of the danger we were in.
âTheyâre more coordinated,â he explained. âBetter equipped, more informed. They knew exactly where to hit us, and theyâre not acting alone. Someoneâs pulling the strings, someone with resources and knowledge.â
âDo you think it could be another vampire?â Jacob asked, his tone skeptical. âSomeone trying to thin out the competition?â
âItâs possible,â Ian admitted, though he didnât sound convinced. âBut it could just as easily be someone who hates vampires enough to fund a war against us. Either way, we need to be prepared.â
Lyannaâs gaze was steady as she looked at me. âYouâre their main target, Sophia. They see you as a threat, maybe because of how you were turned. That makes you dangerous in their eyes.â
âI didnât ask for this,â I said, feeling a surge of anger at the thought. âI didnât want to be a vampire. But now that I am⦠I wonât let them kill me for it.â
âYou wonât face them alone,â Ian said firmly, his hand finding mine and giving it a reassuring squeeze. âWeâre all in this together.â
Jenny nodded in agreement, her expression determined. âWeâll fight them, whatever it takes. Theyâre not going to tear us apart.â
The room fell silent for a moment as we all absorbed the urgency of the situation. We were up against something bigger than any of us had anticipated, and the stakes were higher than ever. But the fact that we were making plans to fight this together made me feel better, just a little.
âWhatâs our plan?â I asked, breaking the silence. âHow do we stop them?â
âWe need information,â Ian said. âWe need to find out whoâs leading them, where theyâre based, what their next move might be. Once we have that, we can strike.â
âAnd we need to be ready for anything,â Mike added. âThat means more training, more preparation. We canât afford to be caught off guard again.â
I nodded, feeling the weight of what was coming. Iâd never been much of a fighter before all of this, but now I had no choice. If I wanted to survive, if I wanted to protect the people I cared about, I had to become stronger.
âIâll do whatever it takes,â I said, my voice firm. âI wonât let them win.â
âGood,â Ian said, his eyes meeting mine with a look of approval. âWeâll start training tomorrow. Weâll focus on building your strength, your speed, your reflexes. And Lyanna, Iâll need you to help with the magical defenses.â
âConsider it done,â Lyanna replied, her tone serious. âIâll get started on the wards tonight.â
âWhat about me?â Jenny asked, looking between Ian and Lyanna. âWhat can I do to help?â
âYouâre human, Jenny,â Jacob said, his voice softer than usual. âYou need to be careful. They could target you to get to us.â
âIâm not going to just sit around and do nothing,â she retorted, her eyes narrowing as she glared at him. âIâm not some damsel in distress. I want to fight too.â
âThere are ways you can help,â Lyanna said, cutting off any argument. âYou have a strong will, Jenny, but theyâre right. You canât be of much help. The only way you can help is taking up training with them. And I can do some defensive spells and charms that will protect you and give you an edge if youâre ever in danger.â
Jenny nodded, looking relieved to have something concrete she could do. âIâll do it. Whatever it takes.â
We spent the next few hours discussing our strategy, laying out a plan that would help us stay one step ahead of the hunters. The conversation was intense, filled with a mix of fear and resolve. But through it all, I couldnât help but feel a strange sense of calm.
For the first time in a long time, I wasnât alone. I had people around me who cared, who would fight for me, just as I would fight for them. And that made me feel much better.
As the night wore on, the tension in the room slowly began to ease. We all knew what was at stake, but we also knew that we had a chanceâa real chanceâto survive this.
By the time we finally broke off the discussion, I felt much more better than I had when we started the conversation. The fear that had been gnawing at me was still there, but it was tempered by the knowledge that we had a plan, and we werenât facing this threat alone.
Ian stayed by my side as the others began to leave. Jacob was taking Jenny to Ianâs house and Mike will drop Lyanna off at her house before he heads to his. I rested my head on Ianâs shoulder with a sigh.
âWeâll get through this,â he said quietly, his voice filled with promise. âI wonât let anything happen to you.â
âI know,â I replied, feeling a warmth spread through me at his words. âAnd I wonât let anything happen to you, either.â
His smile was small but genuine, a rare sight that made my heart skip a beat. âYouâre stronger than you realize, Sophia. Donât ever forget that.â
âI wonât,â I promised, feeling that strength growing inside me. âIâm ready to fight.â
He nodded, his expression serious again. âGood. Because this fight is just beginning.â
