Chapter 303
The Lady Nun Vows Revenge by Caroline Rowland
Chapter 303 âSophie gave it to me a couple of days ago,â Anthony said, glancing at Benedict. âDid she give you too?â
Benedict nodded curtly but remained silent. Anthony, noticing his coldness towards Sophie, felt compelled to say, âBenedict, Sophie knows she was wrong, and sheâs truly sorry.â
Benedict looked at the flower pot and said indifferently, âMaybe she is.â
âItâs not âmaybe,â she is,â Anthony paused his task. âSophie is naive and grew up away from us, so itâs understandable that she made mistakes. But sheâs trying to fix them. Why hold onto it?â
âNaive?â Benedict turned sharply, pinning Anthony with his gaze. âDo you truly believe her to be naive, Anthony?â His stare didnât waver as he spoke.
Anthony paused briefly, then calmly replied, âYes, of course. Didnât you agree before? Are you saying just because Sophie made a mistake or two, sheâs completely untrustworthy now?â
âI donât trust her,â Benedict said, his face impassive as he clenched his fists. âI told you, I canât sleep without dreaming. And do you know what I dream about?â
âWhat kind of dreams?â Anthony asked.
âNightmares,â Benedict said, his voice turning cold. âEvery night, Iâm haunted by the same horrifying dreamâMotherâs grave desecrated, her remains exposed for all to see. Itâs a nightmare that always jolts me awake.
âAnthony, I know you were young when Mother died, so you didnât have as much time with her as I did. I understand that. But weâre different.â
Benedict continued, âShe passed away when I was seven. She was a gentle and kind woman, always wearing a warm smile.
She patiently taught me new things, guided me with wisdom, corrected my mistakes, and protected me whenever I was scared.
Those seven years with her were the happiest of my life. But after she was gone, no one treated me the same way...â
softened Benedictâs expression softened as a faint smile touched his lips. âThatâs not entirely true. When Eliza lived at the Dukeâs estate, she was like Mother, protecting me whenever I was afraid.â
âAfraid? You? Since when have you ever been scared?â Anthony scoffed, his tone laced with disbelief.
âI had, you just never noticed,â Benedict said. Eliza was now the only one who knew what Benedict had truly feared, a realization that filled him with regret.
Anthony shrugged, unconvinced. Benedictâs words rang hollow; theyâd grown up together, and Anthony had never seen Benedict afraid. He assumed Benedict was trying to protect Eliza.
âBenedict, stop defending Eliza. You might have been scared, and she might have protected you, but thatâs your experience.
Eliza means nothing to me,â Anthony said indifferently.
Benedict scowled, his displeasure evident. âAnthony,â he demanded, âwhy do you always treat Eliza with such scorn?â
âNo,â Anthony replied calmly. âI simply donât have any feelings for her. Thereâs no Stonor family rule that says we have to be close, is there?â
Benedict knew there wasnât a rule, but he couldnât escape the feeling that Anthony hadhiât always treated Eliza this way, Something must have shifted his demeanor.
Determined to uncover the truth. Benedict asked, âDid Eliza do something, or did you hear something about her?â
Anthony stiffened, impatience flashing across his face Fine, if youâre that curious, Iâll tell you. But this is itâdonât ask again,â
Go ahead, Benedict replied, curiosity tinging his steady voice. He nodded in agreement.
Anthonyâs voice turned cold and distant. I havenât always felt this way about Eliza. used to be sick all the time, and sheâs care for me t home. Youâd think weâd be close, but sometimes actions donât tell the whole story.â
âWhat did you mean by that?â Benedict asked, frowning Aniljony looked up at his brother âBenedict he said, âdeep down to you all think Iâm worthless?
1/2 8:23 PM Chapter 303 Benedict froze, his face a mask of shock and disbelief. âWhat? Anthony! How could you even suggest such a thing? Thatâs absurd!â
Anthony gave a harsh laugh and shook his head. âDonât be so shocked. I said âmaybe,â remember?â
âThereâs no doubt! Weâre siblingsâit would never cross our minds to think of you like that!â Benedictâs expression turned serious, his brows furrowing together. âDid someone say something that made you think that way?â
Rather than answering directly, Anthony said flatly, âYou may have never considered it that way, but Eliza certainly has.â
Benedict immediately contradicted him, saying, âThatâs impossible!â
âItâs true. I heard Eliza say it herself, even though nobody told me directly,â Anthony said firmly.
âThatâs impossible!â Benedict shook his head, his voice firm. âEliza has always been the most dedicated to you, especially during your illness. She never left your side. There must be a misunderstanding.â
Anthony sneered, watching Benedict continue to defend Eliza. âMisunderstanding?â he scoffed. âDidnât I make myself clear?
Some people may appear sincere, but their true intentions are far from pure.
âShe cared for me more than anyone, staying by my side through every illness. But itâs understandable to feel worn down when youâre caring for someone as fragile and unwell as I was.â
Benedictâs thoughts are racing. He couldnât believe Eliza was involvedâespecially since Anthony seemed so sure about her feelings for him. Benedict knew that Anthony wouldnât change his mind no matter what he said.
A thought suddenly struck Benedict, causing him to frown. Hoping to shift the conversation, he asked, âWhat about Sophie? She didnât care much for you. Why do you feel differently towards her?â
At Sophieâs name, Anthony smiled. âSophie needs me,â he said. âShe sees me for who I am, unlike some others, a broken one in their eyes.â
