Chapter 344
The Lady Nun Vows Revenge by Caroline Rowland
344.Chapter 344 âTina.â A shadowy figure appeared in an instant, landing beside Benedict.
Tina reached out to check his condition, then turned to Eliza and said bluntly, âHeâs dying.â
Eliza was dumbfounded. âDying?â She frowned and hesitated before stepping forward to check Benedictâs pulse herself. âHuh?â
Elizaâs eyes widened slightly as she looked at Benedict in surprise. âWhatâs happening to him? Did someone poison him?
âWho would dare poison the eldest son of the Dukeâs estate?
âAnd why does his pulse feel oddly familiar?
As Eliza was about to examine him further, Benedict, who had been unconscious, suddenly budged. His previously weak and erratic pulse abruptly returned to normal. It happened so suddenly and strangely.
âEliza, is that you?â Benedictâs vision was still blurry as he slowly regained consciousness.
Seeing a figure before him, he instinctively reached out to grab it. But Eliza, having anticipated this, quickly stepped back just in time.
When Benedictâs vision cleared, he realized the person he had grabbed wasnât his sister, but a woman dressed entirely in black.
Amidst the crowd watching from afar, Gabriel slapped Matthew across the face without mercy.
Meanwhile, Tina sharply swatted her hand away. Even with a mask covering her face, Benedict could sense the intense disdain in her actions.
Scrambling awkwardly to his feet, Benedict muttered, âApologies, Miss. I thought you were my sister.â
He had been worried Eliza might slip away again, so he instinctively reached out to grab her, only to realize heâd grabbed the wrong person.
Tina ignored his apology entirely, turning to stand behind Eliza. Her icy gaze locked onto him, as cold and lifeless as if she were staring at a corpse.
Tinaâs piercing stare made him shift uncomfortably. Avoiding her gaze, he turned his attention to Eliza instead. âEliza, I knew you wouldnât have the heart to leave your brother behind,â Benedict said, his voice carrying a mix of hope and unease.
Eliza had indeed been planning to leave. But just now, she noticed something intriguing about Benedict. The familiar sense she couldnât figure out earlier finally clicked into focus.
Keeping a deliberate distance between them, Eliza narrowed her eyes and studied him closely. âMr. Stonor, were you aware you were standing at deathâs door?â
Benedictâs pupils shrank sharply at her words, but he quickly masked his reaction, forcing himself to remain calm. âYou mustâve been learning medicine from the Reverend at Saint Grace Nunnery, Eliza. I didnât expect you to be so skilled.
âLooks like our family will soon have its miracle doctor.â
Elizaâs expression turned cold. âIâm no longer part of your family. Watch your words, Benedict.â
Benedict let out a bitter laugh. âAlright, my bad. Please donât get mad, Eliza.â
Eliza shot him another cold glare. âAnd stop calling me that!â
Benedictâs heart sank even further. âAlright, duly noted.â
Their relationship had come to this point because of him. Forcing a weak smile, Benedict responded to her earlier remark.â My health has been acting up lately, and I didnât expect it to get this bad so quickly.â
Eliza raised her eyebrows. âYou think youâve got some terminal illness?â
âAm I not already on the brink of death? If this isnât a terminal illness, then what is?â Benedictâs pale face twisted into a faint, selfâ
deprecating smile.
Lately, Benedict had been fainting for no reason, unable to sleep or eat properly. He had lost so much weight in less than half a month that he looked like a lost soul. He wasnât far from looking like a zombie.
Eliza suddenly let out a sharp laugh; her disdai.
Benedict froze. âI didnât suffer from terminal illness?â
