Chapter 391
The Lady Nun Vows Revenge by Caroline Rowland
91.Chapter 391 Eliza hated it when others threatened her so brazenly. She flung the annulment papers at Matthew and sneered, âWhatever, but I suggest you sign now before I change my mind out of sheer disgust for you and Sophie.â
She smiled faintly, but the expression was cold and devoid of any warmth.
Matthewâs expression darkened immediately as the tables turned on him.
âMatthew...â Sophie called out softly, afraid he might back out. She urged him with her pitiful gaze.
Matthew stared at the annulment papers, his jaw clenched tight as he tried to stall. âNo pen? How am I supposed to sign anything without a-
âHereâ Before he could finish, the Black Flag captain behind Eliza stepped forward and handed him a pen with practiced efficiency, cutting off his excuse.
Matthew gritted his teeth in frustration. Snatching the pen from the captainâs hand, he glared at him fiercely. âA pen without ink?
How am I supposed to write with it?â
Unfazed, the captain replied smoothly, âDonât worry, Lord Matthew. The pen is heavy with ink. Itâs enough for you to sign your name ten times overâ
âYou!â Matthew cursed, his anger flaring. âDamn it! Like master, like servant. This guy is just as insufferable as the Prince Regentâ
Seeing Matthew still hesitating, Sophie also grew increasingly anxious.
She bit her lower lip lightly, then suddenly lunged toward the blade of one of the Black Flag soldiers. But not before crying out dramatically. âMatthew, donât hesitate. Itâs all my fault, and Iâll kill myself now so you wonât have to be burdened by me anymore.â
âNo! Sophie, donât do anything foolish.â Matthew immediately reached out to stop her. Clutching the pen tightly in his hand, he closed his eyes. âIf I have to choose, then itâs you. I wonât hesitate anymoreâ
With that, he let go of Sophie and, with trembling hands, signed his name on the annulment papers.
Just in case, Eliza also asked him to make up a handprint.
After she had the finalized annulment papers in hand, Eliza glanced at Sophie, who was secretly gloating, and let out a faint scoff. âMatthew, you can think of what happened today as me forcing you, but remember this. When you didnât choose Diana, you lost the right to deserve her.â
Matthew clenched his fists tightly when he heard that, his gaze dark and seething with fury, âEliza, donât worry. Iâll remember this.â
At the same time, he decided that one day, he would make Eliza pay for everything that happened today.
Perhaps because Matthew ultimately chose her, Sophie was now basking in her smugness.
âEliza, how can you be so heartless to Matthew? Donât you think that makes you unworthy of being his sister?â Standing behind Matthew, Sophie pretended to be indignant on his behalf, her voice soft yet accusatory.
Eliza sneered, âSorry, but I couldnât care less.â
âA sister to a blind fool? Whoever wants that title can have it, Eliza thought She had no intention of warning Matthew about anything. Watching him spiral into ruin was far more satisfying for her, and forcing him to annul the engagement was merely the first step.
To prevent Matthew from interfering further, Gabriel promptly ordered Matthew to take Sophie with him and leave. After dismissing them, Gabriel finally turned his attention to Eliza For the sake of his eldest son, he had stood by and watched as his once beloved youngest daughter drove another son to the brink of despair Even so, he remained indifferent.
Eliza had to admit that Gabrielâs coldâbloodedness was beyond anything she had anticipated It wasnât just his coldâbloodedness that shocked her. It was the sheer heartlessness he showed toward Matthew that left her stunned.
