“You better not have,” Raegan interrupted, not wanting to argue further, returning his own warning.

This confrontation struck Mitchel deeply. He clenched his hand into a fist until his knuckles turned white.

Raegan didn't linger on his reaction. She simply felt a tightness in her chest. It wasn't just suspicion. Mitchel's behavior suggested he might be preparing for a custody battle. He told her she could visit her children, but he never said yes to her taking them.

Without another word, Raegan turned and walked away, with Stefan right behind her. Glancing back, Stefan saw Mitchel kneeling down to pick up the fallen ice cream pieces, wrapping them carefully in a handkerchief.

Even when a bodyguard offered to help him, Mitchel refused. I have remained kneeling, staring at the fallen ice cream, lost in thought for a long time.

Back in the car, Raegan was still upset, her expression stern. She looked visibly distressed.

Stefan drove in silence, giving her space to calm her thoughts.

After a while, Raegan broke the silence and asked, “Stefan, do you think he wants to take my children away from me?”

Raegan expressed this concern with a look of fear. If Mitchel intended to fight for custody later, she doubted her ability to prevail. The mere thought was unbearable.

“Why do you think that?” Stefan asked.

“I don't know.” Raegan shook her head, frowning. “I just have a feeling he’s trying to take my kids.”

She then declared: "I will not let him take my children."

Stefan paused and sighed. “Raegan, I think you might be misreading the situation.”

Stefan could tell that Mitchel cared more about Raegan than the kids. Since the baby was already grown, if something went wrong, it would probably affect Raegan more than the kids.

Raegan looked at Stefan with wide eyes. “Misunderstand what?”

"I don't think he's trying to take your kids away from you."

Stefan clarified.

Raegan, however, was not to be swayed. “He's been haunting me like a ghost these past few days, always appearing, especially now that my due date is approaching. If he’s not trying to take the kids, what other intentions could he have?”

Stefan hesitated, wondering if it was wise to speak his mind.

But she was afraid that Raegan would get nervous again, so she whispered, “She's probably worried about you.”

“Does he care about you?” Raegan looked confused. Wasn't Mitchel involved with someone else now? That seemed unfair to Eloise…

Raegan wasn't trying to sympathize with Eloise. She firmly believed that a man in a relationship had to uphold certain standards.

Whether it was a casual date or a serious relationship, Mitchel was not supposed to interfere in another woman's life during that period.

Raegan was silent, and so was Stefan.
