Chapter 1144
Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook
Chapter 1144:

Raegan knew she had to feed this small gap in Davey's defenses until she overwhelmed him.
Raegan closed her eyes again, telling herself that she needed to rest and conserve her strength. She had to keep fighting for her life until Erick and the others came to rescue her.
Raegan endured a harrowing night, plagued by chaotic dreams. The thought of her mother being nearby and her adoptive father's killer nearby prevented any peaceful rest.
As dawn approached, Raegan was barely holding on.
When she opened her eyes, she saw a man sitting on a stool next to her bed. It was Davey.
Raegan's face instantly changed into concern, wondering if she had revealed her deepest thoughts in her sleep.
Davey, feigning indifference, asked casually, "Awake?"
Despite feeling an inner turmoil, Raegan maintained her outward calm and answered, âYes.â
Davey commented, âLooks like youâve had a rough night.â His voice was firm, but his gaze betrayed an icy turbulence.
A pang of anxiety struck Raegan, wondering if she had revealed some slip of the tongue. Quickly gathering her thoughts, she confessed in a firm voice, âYes, I slept badly. Yesterday's events scared me. After all, I nearly died.â
Her sincerity seemed to dissolve the shadows of doubt in Davey's eyes.
He continued to probe: "Are you afraid of me?"
âVery much,â Raegan admitted. âYou've tried to end my life three times. How could I not fear you?â
Her response was candid, and she stepped back slightly, full of apprehension.
Davey's expression darkened as he asked, "What about Landen? How are you two getting along?"
Confused at first by his question, Raegan hesitated.
Davey elaborated: âIs your interaction with him similar to this?â
Raegan realized that Davey was comparing himself to his father.
She fondly recalled Landen's kindness. "My father was very kind to me. I was never afraid of him. When I was little, he often carried me on his back."
In fact, Landen had always shown a deep affection for Raegan, supporting her throughout her childhood and even during her time as a father.
Seeing Raegan's warm smile as she spoke of Landen, irritation appeared on Davey's face. His voice took on a higher tone. âDad?â It was clear he didn't like the term.
âA father for a day, a father for a lifetime,â Raegan declared, looking directly into Daveyâs unrelenting eyes, emphasizing that Landen and his foster father in Tenassie would always be his real dads.
Raegan navigated her emotions with precision. Showing any submission or weakness towards Davey now would only trigger his suspicions.
Considering that Davey had killed his foster father and made three attempts on his life, submission was not an option. Resentment was more appropriate. Such defiance might even arouse competitiveness in Davey.
