Chapter 1148

Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook

Chapter 1148:

? ? ? ? ?

Raegan's bold move had been a calculated risk, taking advantage of Casey's emotional vulnerability to manipulate Davey's concern.

Fortunately, her ruse was successful, and she breathed a sigh of relief when the disappointment went as planned.

Reflecting on the situation, Raegan acknowledged that if they had been her own cries of pain, they would probably have fallen on deaf ears unless she was on the verge of death.

Casey still didn't respond, although she made no effort to resist Raegan's comforting presence. Her gaze was fixed on Raegan, as if she feared that any carelessness would cause her to disappear.

Tears streamed down Raegan's face as she gently clung to Casey's arm, seeking comfort in their shared connection. “Mom…”

Raegan allowed herself a moment of raw emotion, tears flowing freely, before regaining her composure. “Mom, where did you hide that embroidered satin?”

Her question concerned the embroidered satin that had accompanied the gift she had distributed earlier at the wedding, a precious heirloom that now served as their only means of communicating with the outside world.

Containing a transmitter, a simple press of its hidden button would alert Erick to its location.

Since Davey hadn't investigated the gift after Casey accidentally activated the transmitter, Raegan assumed he was still unaware of its existence.

Casey's timing suggested that she had activated it unintentionally, in a moment of subconscious clarity in the midst of her nonverbal state.

In a moment of clarity, a persistent conscious thought prompted Casey to instinctively touch the embroidered satin.

“Mom, that embroidered satin is crucial to us. Can you tell me where it is?” Raegan's question was gentle, but Casey still seemed to be struggling to understand its meaning.

Raegan's mind flickered back to the tale of “the birds come back when the time is right,” a story that resonated deeply with Casey. Guiding Casey to sit down, Raegan recounted the story, each word laden with hope.

When Raegan reached the poignant moment in the story where the mother sparrow returned to find the charred remains of her forest home, Casey's expression changed, her features contorted in sadness.

Buoyed by this emotional response, Raegan pressed on, her voice steady as she uttered the hopeful refusal, “The birds come back when the time is right.” A tangible change swept over Casey's features, a gleam of recognition lighting up her eyes.

At that moment, Raegan's heart swelled with joy at the connection signal.

The moment of triumph was short-lived, however, as Davey's arrival shattered the fragile peace in the room. Seeing Casey's somewhat recovered expression, Davey's spirits seemed to lift momentarily.

However, heedless of Casey's persistent reluctance, Davey stood firm in his decision. "Time's up," he declared bluntly, his words a stark reminder of his captivity.

Not caring too much about Casey's emotional state, Davey quickly ushered her out of the room.

The atmosphere cracked with tension as the next day progressed.

Casey arrived in Raegan's room without delay and Raegan began her tale once more. As the tale reached its climax, Casey's eyes lit up with recognition and she uttered her first coherent sentence since her affliction. “Is this it?”

Like a magician revealing a hidden trick, Casey removed a strap from his wrist.

With a cheerful smile, Casey asked, “Is this it?”

Raegan's surprise grew as she realized that the object she was looking for was hidden on Casey, disguised as a simple wristband. Without hesitation, she inspected the embroidery, confirming the presence of the transmitter.
