Jarrod abruptly stood up to leave, barely eating a bite.

Vicki, brimming with dissatisfaction, thought she caught a mention of Nicole's name during Jarrod's earlier phone conversation with Mitchel, which turned her mild discomfort into deep anxiety.

“Jarrod!” Vicki suddenly stood up, grabbing her arm.

Jarrod stood still, looking at her as if waiting for her words.

Even their dinner tonight had come about only because Vicki mentioned her visit to her family's shrine, prompting Jarrod to reluctantly agree to join her for dinner. However, he hadn't even touched the soup she had spent hours preparing.

Vicki's lip trembled as she said, "I've been simmering this soup for six hours and you haven't even taken a sip."

Vicki longed to ask if Jarrod was planning to meet up with Nicole, but refrained from asking the question.

Saying too much could be annoying, and since she kept quiet about everything related to Nicole, she felt that she was retaining her position as Jarrod's fiancée, still fit to become his wife. If matters destabilized, it would not bode well for her.

Jarrod's response was emotionless. "I have some urgent business to attend to. I'll get to it next time."

He pulled his arm away, looking slightly impatient with Vicki's grip.

Vicki wisely let him go, keeping a smile as she said, “Then you go about your business. Remember to eat and I’ll make you soup one more time.”

Dayton looked at her, his face seemed to exude joy, and he frowned slightly, but remained silent.

Seemingly oblivious to Jarrod's discomfort, Vicki lovingly took his coat from him and draped it over her shoulders.

Watching him head for the door, Vicki called out once more, “Jarrod…”

Jarrod stopped and looked back at Vicki.
