Chapter 1493:

"I met his wife at the hospital, treating the woman who looks like her, the one known as Melissa at the club. It seems that Melissa has tried to take her own life."
Jarrod maintained his stoic expression, prompting Alec to speculate that he might be displeased. Remembering Jarrodâs earlier warning not to follow Nicole, Alec was quick to clarify, âI wasn't following your wife. I just happened to run into her at the hospital. âShe was receiving treatment for a stomach ache.â
Jarrod responded with a silent nod.
Alec, feeling uncomfortable, added, âAnd there is another matterâ¦â
Impatiently, Jarrod intervened: âSpit it out.â
âOkay. âI also ran into Roscoe at the hospital.â
Jarrod's face hardened briefly, but then quickly composed itself.
Jarrod's silence left Alec wondering what he could be thinking, but years of working together had made Alec frank.
He did not hesitate to speak his mind, even at the risk of consequences. âSir, I saw your wife talking to Mr. Watts. Their meeting was probably not planned, but she seemed genuinely concerned about him.â
Alec added, his tone tinged with disapproval, "Sir, you've been very kind to her, but she doesn't seem to appreciate your efforts. She's still involved with Mr. Watts. It seems that..."
âIt was a chance encounter,â Jarrod interrupted brusquely.
Jarrod's defensive reaction surprised Alec. He pursed his lips. âMaybe you're right. They didn't do anything inappropriate. But I think since sheâs married to you, she should stay away from Mr. Watts.â
After all, Roscoe's case was different. He had once eloped with Nicole, and they shared a deep, if complicated, past. Nicole's marriage to Jarrod was not out of love, but out of necessity. Alec feared that old feelings would resurface, causing Jarrod pain.
«Also, sir, I've noticed something strange about Mr. Watts. His eyes are cold and distant, and he always wears the same expression. I once thought that perhaps he had a problem with his wife, but he seemed to look at everyone that way.
Once, he even crashed into a cleaning lady's car and just ignored her. The woman he was with had to apologize on his behalf, as if she was always cleaning up his mess.
Jarrod's face tightened. I have remembered Roscoe as a polite and well-mannered person. What had happened to make Roscoe change?
Alec continued: âHeâs not the same as before. Itâs like his soul has left, leaving only an empty shell.â
That was how Alec felt about Roscoe. There was something about Roscoe that didn't fit.
