Chapter 1581:

Finally, Nicole spotted a familiar figure. It was none other than Ethel. Ethel had changed into plain clothes, indicating that her colleagues were probably preparing to arrest Brett.
Nicole looked at Callie, who remained motionless. Breaking the silence, Nicole spoke softly, âWe're here. Wouldnât you like to see your father?â
As Nicole's words hung in the air, a sudden commotion occurred nearby. A man dressed in a black coat was struggling against Ethel and her colleagues, who had pinned him to the ground.
Nicole's heart raced and her instincts kicked in to stop Callie from advancing. âWait a little longer. âYou canât see your father yet.â
Motivated to protect Callie from the anguish of witnessing her father's arrest, Nicole prevented her from exiting the vehicle.
Despite Brett's possible involvement in Wesson's downfall, Nicole acknowledged Brett's steady affection for Callie. Brett had always played the role of a devoted and loving father throughout Callie's upbringing.
Callie's biological mother had abandoned her family upon realizing the severity of Callie's illness, unable to cope with the demands of caring for her. Brett, left to raise his sick daughter and his elderly parents alone, steadily refused to give up hope for his daughter's recovery.
Nicole was afraid of tarnishing this fatherly love in Callie's eyes.
Callie, calm and obedient, remained seated in the car.
Nicole's gaze remained fixed on the scene unfolding. Ethel spoke to the man on the ground, then helped him to his feet. Before the man could turn around, Callie abruptly intervened from behind, her voice barely audible, "Why are you all after my father?"
Nicole was shocked. She turned to Callie.
âThat man is not my father, Nicole.â Callie finally recognized Nicole's identity. âAnd you will never find him.â
Nicole looked at the phone in Callie's hand and realized. Callie's phone was active. Callie must have alerted Brett that she was being followed, giving him enough time to disappear.
Ethel and her colleagues scratched their heads in confusion, but the man was detained.
Ethel called Nicole. âThe man we just arrested isn't Brett. Heâs a car thief,â she said, frustration clear in her voice.
Nicole vividly remembered the man's erratic behavior and his hasty attempt to flee when he realized the undercover officers were approaching.
âI'm aware,â Nicole replied, her gaze fixed on Callie.
"Where are you? Where is Callie?" Ethel asked. The arrested driver had confessed that his actions were driven by an uncontrollable desire.
âHe's here with me,â Nicole replied.
Ethel, who was still unaware of the whole situation, suggested, âKeep her close for now. Try to get her to talk and see if she knows where her father is.â
âI will,â Nicole replied. She ended the call abruptly, unable to divulge any more details due to Callie's presence. âCallie, when did you realize who I was?â
Callie's eyes widened as she studied Nicole's face. âAfter the phone call. I care about you so much. How could I not recognize you?â
Callie's innocent demeanor radiated genuine affection for Nicole.
