Chapter 1322
Mistaking a Magnate for a Male Escort
âMommy, when are you going to come back?â came Ellieâs voice from the other end of the line.
Then, the three other younger children began butting in. âAunt Charlotte, Aunt Charlotte, come back quickly to tell us bedtime stories!â
âAll right. Aunt Charlotte will be back soon. Iâm on my way,â Charlotte coaxed gently. âShower first, okay? Then you can wait for me to come back to tell you stories.â
âOkey-dokey!â the three children sang in unison.
âMommy, are you with Daddy?â Even Jamie had come over to ask. âWill you be coming back together? Could you ask Daddy if he can bring my Transformers over?â
âWe wonâtââ
âOf course,â Zachary interrupted. âWeâll be there in half an hour. Iâll bring your Transformers over.â
âOkay, thanks, Daddy!â Jamie cheered.
âMy laptop too, Daddy,â Robbie reminded. âIâve forgotten about it this afternoon because I was in a rush.â
âGot it,â Zachary said to the children. Unbeknownst to him, the look on his face had softened. âShower first. Daddy will be there soon.â
âOkay. Bye, Daddy.â
âDaddy, Mommy, weâll be waiting for you.â
âAll right.â
After the call ended, the gentle smiles remained on their faces until they looked at each other. Almost immediately, their expressions turned solemn.
âWho told you to say yes to them? I didnât agree to let you come to my house,â Charlotte hissed out.
âThen are you planning to walk back?â Zachary retorted.
âIâ¦â It was then Charlotte recalled that she was not driving; She and Lupine were riding Zacharyâs car.
âSo what?â Charlotte then turned to Lupine and instructed, âCall Morgan and tell her to pick us up.â
âUnderstood,â Lupine answered as she took out her phone.
âDo you really have to do this?â Zachary frowned. âFirstly, this will waste your time. Secondly, itâll affect the childrenâs moods. Moreover, your handâs hurt. You canât even hold a book, so do tell me how youâre going read them bedtime stories.â
Charlotte realized that he was right. When Zachary heard nothing else from her, he instructed Ben, âGet someone to send Robbie and Jamieâs stuff over.â
âYes, Sir.â Ben chanced a glance at Lupine before making a call.
Charlotte did not stop him, thinking, I guess itâll be good to have the kids be happy for a night. Zacharyâs only doing this for the kids. All we need to do is to make sure we keep a distance from each other.
Soon, they reached Northridge. By then, the Nacht familyâs bodyguard had brought Robbie and Jamieâs stuff over.
After Zachary stepped out of the car, he turned around to help Charlotte out.
Nevertheless, Charlotte rejected his offer. He rolled his eyes at her before walking straight toward the house.
âDaddy!â
Jamie and Ellie were waiting in the living room. When they saw Zachary and Charlotte entering the house, they ran toward them.
The two were exceptionally excited, a stark contrast against Robbie, who seemed calm. In fact, Robbie seemed to be quietly studying Zachary.
âMommy!â Ellie beamed at Zachary before launching herself into Charlotteâs arm. However, Zachary swiftly pulled her toward him. âMommyâs hurt, so Daddyâs going to be the one to read you your bedtime stories tonight. Donât disturb Mommy, okay?â
The three children quickly huddled over to anxiously ask, âWhat? What happened to Mommy?â
âMommyâs fine. Itâs just a scratch,â Charlotte reassured them. âDonât worry. Itâs all right.â
âAh! Mommyâs hand is hurt!â Ellie shrieked when she saw Charlotteâs bandaged hand, her face white as sheet.
âLet me see!â Robbie and Jamie then took Charlotteâs hand and carefully checked it. âWhat happened?â
âYour mommy was really brave. She was the damsel who saved the hero, and thatâs why sheâs hurt,â Zachary joked.
âWas that hero you, Daddy?â Jamie asked curiously, his head tilting upward to look at him.
âThatâs right. Itâs me.â He nodded.
