Chapter 1357
Mistaking a Magnate for a Male Escort
After hearing Charlotteâs account, Michael was shocked. âSo, it turned out that your mom is Mr. Lindbergâs aunt? I once heard from my father that she used to be a legend in the business sphere.â
âOh? Mr. Brown knows about my mom?â She was surprised to hear that. âNo one told me that my mom was a businesswoman. I thought she wasnât involved in the family business at all.â
âThatâs not possible,â he replied with a look of admiration on his face. âEveryone in the Lindberg family is a business whiz.â
âDanrique hasnât mentioned it before.â Charlotteâs heart sank at the thought of her cousin.
âAm I right to assume that the legendary Mr. Lindberg is your cousin?â Michael asked. âIâve heard stories about him.
The word is that he has a god-like presence, so Iâm sure heâll return safe and sound.â
âMm.â Charlotte nodded before changing the topic. âMichael, how have you been for the past two years? Is your company doing well?â
âIâm all right. My business is doing well too,â he replied, smiling. âYou know that I have zero interest in business, and I lack confidence in it. However, I had no choice but to try as I couldnât bear to let the business, which my dad had painstakingly built up, tumble.â
âYouâre too humble. Results have already proven that youâre a genius in business,â she joked. âSeems like youâve inherited the talent of a businessman from your dad.â
Michael laughed heartily. âIâve been hearing that a lot, but Iâve only taken it as flattery. But coming from you, it makes me really happy.â
âIâm just glad that youâre happy,â Charlotte replied sincerely. âIâm also happy to see that youâre doing so well.â
âDo you have any plans?â he asked, fixing his gentle gaze on the woman. âAre you planning to continue being involved in the corporate world? Or are you intending to lead a peaceful and quiet life?â
âI want to find Danrique first,â Charlotte said with a hint of sorrow in her voice. âI have a feeling heâs still aliveâ¦â
âHeâs such a capable man, so Iâm sure heâs still alive,â Michael comforted her. âIâll try asking around to see if I can find out anything too,â he then offered.
âThanks,â Charlotte replied with a faint smile. âHow long are you intending to stay here this time round?â
âI had originally planned to leave tomorrow night,â Michael replied. Deciding to be frank with her, he confessed, âHelena has been released from prison, and Iâm here to bring her home.â
âI see.â Charlotte did not ask any further, choosing to stay away from any matters related to Helena. Even though that woman never harmed her, she insisted on distancing herself from such a vile person.
âI know you donât like her. In fact, even I resented her back then for committing such an unforgivable act. However, I canât just ignore her as sheâs still my cousin, after all.â
With a sigh, he continued, âSince my dad is more than a decade older than Uncle Steven, heâs like a father figure to him and took great care of him since young. My uncle had originally led an average life, but with my dadâs help, he managed to gain both status and wealth eventually. After Helena took over the family business, the company expanded due to her good business acumen and strong capabilities. I really did not expect her to lose her mind over love.â
Michael paused and heaved another sigh.
âHowever, regardless of what had happened, she has already received the punishment she deserved. My dad has asked me to bring her back to M Nation. With us watching over her, I donât think such an incident will ever happen again.â
âI hope so,â Charlotte simply replied.
The man cleared his throat awkwardly and diverted her attention with a question. âAre you still in touch with Hector?â
âNope.â She shook her head. âI have stopped contacting the people from my past after assuming my new identity. I donât think he even knows that Iâm back.â
âThatâs quite likely.â Michael nodded. âGiven his current circumstances, he probably wonât have access to any information in the higher social class within the corporate world. If thatâs the case, he probably wouldnât know anything about you too.â
âLetâs not talk about the past anymore. Itâs all water under the bridge. Likewise, thereâs no need for me to meet people from my past again,â Charlotte said with a sigh. âItâs better for us to go on our own paths.â
