Chapter 1487
Mistaking a Magnate for a Male Escort
Chapter 1487 Worried Once they arrived at the hospital, Charlotte got down from the car in a haste. Before she reached Ellieâs ward, she could hear the childâs fearful cries from afar.
Rushing in, she gave Ellie a tight hug. âEllie, donât be afraid. Mommyâs here. Iâm right hereâ¦â
âMommy!â Ellie was shaking in her arms.
âGood girl, Ellie. Youâre fine now. Itâs all right. Mommyâs here. No one can hurt you.â Charlotte patted her back gently to comfort her.
Before long, Ellie finally calmed down and dozed off.
Raina revealed in a low voice, âThe drug must be causing her sleepiness. Sheâll be fine a couple of days later.â
âHow about her wounds?â Charlotte inquired. âHer voice sounded hoarse.â
âHer throat is a little infected after she took in too much of the poisonous smoke. Sheâll be fine after getting some rest,â Raina replied. âThere are no big issues. Itâs only a mild concussion.â
âI think sheâs traumatized,â Charlotte said, staring at Ellie worriedly.
âYes, she is,â came Rainaâs answer. âIâve arranged for some psychologists to examine her the next time she wakes up.â
âOkay.â Charlotte sat beside the bed. âYou can leave now. Iâll keep Ellie company.â
âAll right. Iâll go check on Ben. Call me if anything happens.â
âIâ¦â Lupine hesitated.
âLeave with her. Weâre fine here.â Charlotte knew what was on her mind.
âIâll stay with Ms. Lindberg,â Morgan offered. âGo, Lupine.â
âStay with her. Donât leave her alone,â Lupine instructed.
âOf course.â
Lupine left with Raina, while Morgan stayed with Charlotte.
Charlotte switched off the lights, leaving behind a dim yellow light just so she could keep an eye on Ellie. Her heart was overwhelmed with anguish and guilt.
Gently, she held Ellieâs tiny hands to give her warmth.
It was four in the morning, and Charlotte should be exhausted by now, but she couldnât sleep a wink. Keeping Ellie company made her feel better.
Time trickled by, and the sun eventually came out.
Lupine returned to report, âOur men sent back word that the car belonged to the restaurant at the foot of the hill.
Thereâs nothing suspicious about it.â
âFine, then.â Charlotte didnât dwell on the matter. âPrepare to head to the company.â
âItâs still early. Arenât you heading back to get some rest?â Lupine asked with concern.
âIâm fine.â Charlotteâs brows knitted together. âThere is too much work for me to relax. I canât sleep well. Iâll rest when everything comes to an end.â
âBut your healthââ
âStop it,â Charlotte cut her off. âMorgan, letâs go to my office. Lupine, stay here at the hospital.â
âIââ
âYes, Ms. Lindberg,â Morgan answered hastily.
Though Lupine felt uneasy, she dared not disobey Charlotteâs order.
Her heart ached at how Charlotte was putting others before her until now.
She knows Iâm worried about Ben. Thatâs why she switched my shift with Morganâs shift so I can stay in the hospital.
Though it seems like a task, sheâs actually being kind.
Right then, Raina had arrived with the psychologists. âMs. Lindberg, Iâve made the arrangements. Once Ellie regains consciousness, theyâll start counseling her. Donât worry. But during the session, itâs better to have someone to stay with her.â
âBut Iââ
Charlotte was about to explain that she was heading to work when two familiar voices rang out. âMommy!â
Robbie and Jamie ran in with Ellieâs favorite plushie.
âWeâll keep Ellie company. You should get some rest,â Robbie said gently. âItâs still early, so you can take a nap and go back to work in the afternoon.â
âYes, Mommy. Donât exhaust yourself.â Jamie hugged her. âWeâll be worried if you get sick.âq
