Chapter 2219
Mistaking a Magnate for a Male Escort
Chapter 2218 Suspicion âYes, but my stomach is a little upset.â Francesca rubbed her belly. âIt feels like I ate something wrong, but I havenât eaten anything today except for a glass of milk.â
The first lady paled upon her words. âIt must be the hunger. Youâve been working so hard today that you didnât even have time to grab a bite, thus causing an upset stomachâ¦â
âIâll be fine. I just need to drink more water when I get home,â said Francesca. âIâll be fine even if I ate something wrong. Iâm immune to poison.â
The first lady was stunned. Is she serious? âMs. Felch!â Monica shouted. âComing.â Francesca quickly went down the stairs. âWhy did you come so late at night?â
âTo pick you up.â Monica gave Francesca a once-over and asked in a low voice, âAre you okay?â âIâm fine.â
Francesca yawned. âWhy wouldnât I be?â
âAll right, thatâs good to hear. I was worried that you might tire yourself out.â Monica heaved a sigh of relief. âIâll go get your medical kit.â
âOh, right.â Francesca had forgotten all about her medical kit. âItâs in the guest room. Please help to get it for me.â
âOkay.â Monica headed toward the guest room and ran into the first lady at the stairs. She quickly bowed her head to greet her. The first lady kept quiet as she walked over to Francesca. âFrancesca, let me send you off.â
âMs. Felch has been staying in this room.â The bodyguard, who was standing by the door, showed Monica the way.
Monica had wanted to snoop around the room for clues but disregarded the thought as she could feel the bodyguard watching her. She left the room as soon as she got the medical kit.
Monica even smiled and nodded at the bodyguard on her way out.
On the way back, Francescaâs stomach was a little upset. âThatâs weird. I havenât eaten anything all day. Why do I have an upset stomach?â she said after carefully examining herself.
âDid you drink anything?â asked Monica.
âA glass of milk. Thatâs it.â
Francesca found herself a pill and downed it with some mineral water.
âIs it the milk?â Monica asked without missing a beat. âDid anything happen to you after you drank the milk?â
âNo. I fell asleep right after.â Francesca shrugged. âIâd be able to tell immediately if something is wrong with the food. But I couldnât tell if the milk was poisoned since I was so tired. Sleep was the only thing on my mind.â
âYouâre too careless.â Monica was a little panicky. âWhen did you fall asleep? Did anything happen after you fell asleep?â
âWhat could happen?â Francesca laughed. âIâm immune to poison. They wouldnât be able to do anything to me even if the milk was poisoned. Moreover, itâs the presidential palace weâre talking about. Who would dare poison me?â
âUmâ¦â Monica was stunned. âYouâre immune to poison?â
âYeah. Iâve been bathing in herbal concoctions ever since I was young. Small doses of poison wouldnât affect me. Iâll have an upset stomach at most.â
Francesca paused as her words settled in. âOh, right. Why would I have an upset stomach if thereâs nothing wrong with the milk?â
âCould it be that the milk was poisoned?â
Just then, Gordon spoke up.
âNot necessarily.â Francesca analyzed, âI have stomach issues. Sometimes itâs because I havenât eaten in a long while or Iâve overeaten. We canât be entirely sure that itâs the milk.â
âBut there were no empty glasses when I went in to get your medical kit.â Monica realized a critical point. âThey wouldnât have time to clean the room since you just woke up. The empty glass should still be there. Why is it gone?â
âThat is very suspicious,â said Gordon. âThey must have gotten rid of it for fear that we might notice that something is off.â
