Chapter 332
Mistaking a Magnate for a Male Escort
Meanwhile, Michael and Charlotte had arrived at the Garden Villaâold Mr. Nachtâs residence in the northern suburbs.
Michael alighted to request an audience with the master of the house but was told by the bodyguard that he had gone out early and had not mentioned when he might return.
The guard offered no opposition when Michael said he would like to wait outside the gates.
When the man returned to the car, Charlotte asked, âHow did it go?â
âMr. Nachtâs away, but I plan to stay here and wait. Shall I have someone send you back first?ââI wonât be able to settle myself down if I were to go back without them.â Charlotte sounded disconsolate.
âMichael, Iâve left my phone at home. Iâd like to go back to get it. Itâll be terrible if I were to miss any of their calls.â
âVery well. In that case, Iâll go with you.â Michael then had his chauffeur drove them to her place.
â¦..
At the hospital, old Mr. Nacht met with Zachary at the medical superintendentâs office. âWhat are you doing here?â
âCan I not come?â Zachary appeared frustrated. âYour chauffeur drove my car over someone and their parents called the police on me.â
âThe childrenâs parents called the police?â The old man was astonished. âWhere are they? I have been trying to get in touch with them.â
âLet me handle this, just in case.â Zachary tried to look for an excuse.
âLet you handle what?â Old Mr. Nacht flatly refused. âThose children and I have a connection. I will be assuming responsibility for them as I swore to protect them.â
âNo matter what you do, youâre neither their father nor mother,â Zachary posited. âWe have to return them eventually.â
âYou may be right about that,â the old man concurred after some thought. âWhy donât we do it this way.
You bring the parents here so that I could apologize to them and discuss the terms of compensation before I hand the children over personally.â
âThe car involved is registered under my name and Iâm the one the traffic police department contacted.
If someone is trying to stir up controversy, Iâll be the one in trouble. Surely you donât want me to get implicated, do you?â
Old Mr. Nacht found his logic hard to refute. âHow do you intend to handle this?â
âWeâll return the children, offer compensation, and try to keep everything low-key,â Zachary said in all seriousness. âIâve checked in with the hospital. The kidâs fine, so itâll be a trivial matter. They wonât be looking to pursue it further.â
âI see.â The old man nodded. âThese three children are adorable and I quite like them. Be sure to do your best to satisfy their parentâs demands. Am I clear?â
âUnderstood. I will.â Zachary nodded before he turned to Ben. âSend Mr. Nacht home!â
âYes, sir.â
âOne moment. I want to say goodbye to them.â
Old Mr. Nacht issued instructions to Spencer while he made his way back to the ward with the aid of his crutch.
âBring over the presents Iâve got for them, and the smartwatches as well. Save my number into them so they could reach me at any time.â
âRight away.â Spencer nodded in acknowledgement.
âWhatâs he thinking?â Zachary frowned when he regarded the old man from behind. âGiving them presents and leaving his number? Does he think heâs reacquainting with long-lost relatives?â
âIâve heard from Spencer that old Mr. Nacht is very fond of the children, and had been spending time in the hospital with them himself over the past few days,â Ben said cautiously. âMr. Nacht, I think heâs quite serious about them, so theyâre untouchable!â
âTheyâre not family.â The very thought of it made Zacharyâs blood boil. âCompared to them, whoâs closer to him?â
âYou, of course. Butâ¦â
âThen shut your mouth and just do as youâve been told,â Zachary said.
âUnderstood.â
