Chapter 552
Mistaking a Magnate for a Male Escort
âYeah.â Zachary nodded.
âDonât they have classes in kindergarten today?â Charlotte hurriedly checked the date on her phone.
âItâs a Tuesday.â
âHe canât learn much there. Itâs alright to take some days off occasionally.â Zacharyâs reply was nonchalant.
âHmm.â Charlotte didnât say much but decided to focus on her meal.
Robbie could sense the tension between the both of them. They usually regarded each other with affection and adoration, but something was not right today. Why were things so awkward?
âMommy, you also worked at Daddyâs company before, right? Can you come with us?â Jamieâs awareness was not as keen as Robbieâs, so he could not sense the discord between them. âMaybe you can meet your former colleagues!â
âYeah, letâs bring Mommy with us!â Ellie took Charlotteâs hand in hers and cooed at Zachary. âWeâll take Fifi too!â
âShe canât go.â
Charlotte was about to speak when Zachary interjected. âShe wants to rest at home.â
Charlotte glared at him. He did not want her to appear with the children at work, or did he not want people to know about their relationship?
Then why bring up marriage? Are you going to keep that under wraps too?
âMommy is sick? Oh, then she should stay home and rest!â Jamie still had not noticed anything but decided to wolf down the warm hot cross bunnies that were on his plate.
âWell, if Mommy canât go, I wonât bring Fifi along. Fifi might run loose and cause trouble.â Ellie stroked Fifiâs head and soothingly said, âYou should behave when weâre gone, okay?â
âGo, go!â
Fifi immediately squawked those words in a panic and rubbed its head against Ellieâs hand, seemingly worried that he would be left behind.
âFifi, be good!â Ellie could sense the parrotâs distress and said, âWeâre not going to school today. Weâre going to Daddyâs company! There are too many people, and you cannot go.â
âGo, go!â Fifi then flew to perch on Ellieâs shoulder while rubbing its beak on her cheek. âGo!â
Jamie had a soft spot for Fifi and could not help but empathize with the birdâs distress. He was about to speak, but a warning look from Robbie shut him up immediately.
The parrot then emulated Ellie and squawked sadly, while using its wings to cover its face.
Ellie felt her eyes water when she saw Fifiâs display.
âFine, it can come with us,â said Zachary who finally relented.
âReally? Hurray, Daddy!â exclaimed Ellie happily.
âGreat!â Jamie immediately picked Fifi up and taught it how to say âThank you, Daddy!â
âThank you, Daddy, thank you, Daddy!â came Fifiâs little squawks as he tried to repeat what Jamie said.
Zachary smirked at how eerily human the parrot seemed. It was like he had a fourth child.
âThank you, Daddy!â chimed Robbie from beside him.
Zachary rubbed his little head gently. âYou are still young. Itâs okay to be a little more like your siblings and grow up at their pace. You donât have to be so sensible just yet.â
âMr. Henry said⦠Wait, no, Great-grandpa said thatâ¦.â Robbie was a little distressed, and his eyes were red. âIs he alright?â
âWeâll visit him tonight, said Zachary as he gave Robbie a hug.
âGreat, we can visit Mr. Henry!â Jamie and Ellie cheered but quickly corrected themselves. âNo, itâs Great-grandpa.â
âYes, remember to address him as that next time.â
âYes, Daddy!â tittered the children cheerfully.
âYouâre coming too,â said Zachary with a cursory glance at Charlotte.
âMe?â Charlotte was stunned. âReally?â
âSomeone will pick you up later tonight. Weâll meet at the hospital.â Zachary grunted, feigning coldness.
âGo rest properly!â
âAlright.â Charlotte could finally smile as she released the breath she had been holding.
