Chapter 775
Mistaking a Magnate for a Male Escort
âWhat?â Zachary frowned. âRobbie saw his mother?â
âNo,â Bruce answered firmly. âI blocked his sight. He shouldnât have seen Ms. Lindberg.â
âShouldnât have?â Zachary growled.
âIâm sorry for my incompetence.â Bruce was frustrated, but he didnât defend himself.
âCalm down, Mr. Nacht,â Ben advised him. âYou canât hide it forever. Ms. Lindberg is still going to make a public appearance on the South Sea territorial waters projectâs opening day. Even if the people from Southridge and Northridge arenât seeing one another right now, theyâd know sheâs back on that day.â
Zachary frowned after hearing the explanation. âWhenâs the opening?â
âThirteenth next month,â Ben answered hastily. âItâs already twenty-ninth today.â
âSo we have sixteen days to work with.â Zachary tapped the armrest of his leather chair, then he told Bruce, âCall Cynthia. If sheâs holding up, tell her to have dinner with me tonight.â
âHuh?â Bruce was startled by the request, but he quickly answered, âRight away, Sir. Give me a minute.â
Zachary ended the call, but he didnât look relaxed. In fact, he was tense. I have to get Henry back to M Nation, or Iâll get held back.
âDonât worry. There are about two weeks before that. Weâll settle this before then,â Ben calmed him down.
At the same time, Ben called back, âMs. Blackwood isnât feeling well. She declined your invitation.â
Zachary was surprised to hear that. He thought Cynthia would accept the invitation no matter what, but he never expected her to say no. âI see.â Zachary hung up.
âMs. Blackwood sustained quite a serious injury. I saw her yesterday, and she couldnât even get out of bed. Going out for a meal seems unrealistic for now,â Ben explained.
âWeâll talk about this later. For now, letâs settle some business.â
âYes.â
â¦
Zachary worked for the whole day and refused all appointments for that night. He wanted to go home soon and spend some time with his kids, but it was already ten when he came home.
Henry and Cynthia were having a game of chess when Zachary came back. Henry seemed to be in a good mood, and he laughed heartily. âGood form, Cynthia. Good form. Not many people out there have the patience to play chess with me and win. Youâre the second.â
Cynthia put her chess piece down and signaled, âIs Zachary the first?â
âNo.â Henry shook his head and sighed. âItâs his mother.â
Cynthia froze up for a moment, then she apologized, âIâm sorry. I shouldnât have talked about that.â
âItâs fine. Itâs all in the past now.â Then Henry realized Zacharyâs return, and his gentle attitude was replaced by a stern one. âYouâre late.â
âI tried my best to be early.â He went upstairs, then he remembered something and asked, âAre you guys hungry? Wanna get supper together?â
Henry stopped drinking his tea, surprised that Zachary would ask them out for supper. Zachary was, after all, a cold man.
âSure. Iâm getting hungry now,â Cynthia gestured.
âMake some light supper, Mrs. Rawlston. Iâll come back after I change,â Zachary told Mrs. Rawlston.
âYes, Mr. Zachary.â Mrs. Rawlston quickly sent the servants to the kitchen, while Zachary went upstairs.
Henry looked at him for a while, then he turned to Cynthia. âCynthia, did he talk to you over the last few days?â
âHe asked me out for dinner tonight, but I declined because Iâm not in a state to go out yet,â she gesticulated.
âIs that so?â Henry was delighted. âThatâs progress right there!â
