Chapter 397
The Billionaire’s Maid Bride
Carter was filled with worry. Miranda had injured her leg, so Lucian had Cora take her for treatment.
Carter had been standing outside the operating room the whole time.
Time ticked by. The door to the operating room finally opened. The doctor came out and said, âPlease sign here.â
Everyone immediately crowded around.
When Leah saw the âCritical Condition Noticeâ, she suddenly fainted. Christopher signed the Critical Condition Notice. His body began to tremble. Penelope was his only daughter.
The doctor returned to the operating room. The door to the operating room closed once more.
Penelope had been inside for two hours now.
Lucian clenched his fists and said to Cora, âTake Grandpa back home. Iâll stay here and wait.â
Carter shook his head, âNobody try to convince me otherwise. Iâm staying here today no matter what.â
About another hour passed.
Penelope was wheeled out. The doctor said, âWe did everything we could, but we couldnât save the baby. Ms. Flanagan lost too much blood, her ribs are broken, her arm is broken, and she has multiple contusions and a moderate concussion. She needs to be admitted to the ICU for observation now.â
The baby didnât make it. Carter closed his eyes.
Miranda said softly, âAt least sheâs okay.â
They had guessed this outcome when they arrived. Penelope had been nearly 9 months pregnant.
With this kind of situation and severe blood loss, it was likely the baby wouldnât survive. But hearing the doctor say it, Carterâs heart sank.
Outside the ICU, a weary Christopher told the Lindberg family, âYou all should go home. Leah and I will stay here.â
After all, Penelope was their daughter. And now that Penelopeâs baby was gone, they didnât know what the Lindberg family would do.
Miranda said, âPenelope got hurt trying to save me. If it wasnât for me, she and her baby would be fine.
How could I possibly leave?â
Leah had sobered up at this point. This statement jolted her out of her grief. Yes, the baby was gone, but that baby wasnât Lucianâs to begin with. Now, they were rid of the baby and made the Lindberg family feel guilty. At first, she was worried for Penelope, but now, she -realized, was this her daughterâs scheme?
She immediately added to Mirandaâs statement, âPenelope cared so much about this baby. She was about to meet the baby. Now that the baby is gone, sheâs going to be devastated when she wakes up.â
Carter stood up and said, âThe Lindberg family owes you an apology.â
Leah leaned into Christopher and began to weep.
Lucian pursed his lips and said, âGrandpa, Mom, Dad, you all should go home. Iâll stay here.â
Allison tried to call Lucian, but it didnât go through. Since he wasnât reaching out to her, she thought it was just fine and put her phone aside to focus on the script in her hands.
Patty had arranged for her to star in a TV drama. She was the lead actress for a mini-series. The filming period was a month, starting from next Tuesday.
She was pleased with the character set-up in the script. Patty truly had a unique taste for picking scripts. Although this was a mini-series, and her screen time was limited, every time she appeared, it was a highlight. It was a detective drama where she was a key character in one of the episodes.
She had an acting class in the afternoon given by a professional teacher Patty had hired. She glanced at Grace who was taking a nap and quietly left.
As she stepped out of the elevator, her phone vibrated. It was a message from Linda. She hadnât saved Lindaâs number on her phone, but she remembered it because Linda had texted her before.
âAllison, can you take a call now? I have something to tell you.â
After thinking for a moment, Allison called Linda.
âMs. Flanagan had a miscarriage. Do you know about this?â
Allison had just left the apartment complex. The warm sun was shining down. She suddenly stopped, âWhat did you say?
