Chapter 40
The Billionaire’s Maid Bride
Allison suddenly felt a knot in her stomach, sensing his scrutinizing gaze lingering on her face. Her voice even trembled slightly, âIâm not Allison; canât you tell us apart?â
She had a tinge of hope when she said this but instantly regretted it once the words left her mouth.
What would she do if he realized she wasnât Penelope? How would she explain everything that had happened?
Just when Allison was stressing out, the boarding announcement came from the loudspeakers.
Swiftly changing the subject, Allison said, âTake care on your journey and good luck with work. I⦠Iâll be waiting for your return.â
When Allison smiled, her red lips were as bright and beautiful as a blooming rose.
Allison personally saw him off, watching the plane until it was a mere speck in the sky. The sparkle in her eyes dimmed as the plane disappeared.
Lucian, when you return, the woman you love, Penelope, will be back too. Thank you for these past few days. Iâm sorry for deceiving you in this way. I never wanted this.
Penelope will wait for your return.
And just as you wish, Allison will disappear from your sight.
When Allison returned to the Flanagan family, only Christopher was home.
She went straight to the study and informed Christopher about Lucianâs trip to the Lindberg Corporation subsidiary âAllison, youâve really been a trooper these past days.â Christopher pulled out a card from a drawer, âHereâs 20,000 dollars for your motherâs medical bills. If itâs not enough, let me know. As for the kidney, Iâve got someone on it, but theyâre not easy to come byâ¦â
âThank you.â Allison understood that finding a kidney donor was a matter of luck.
âI need a favor.â Allison bit her lip, hesitating before she spoke, âIâve fallen behind on my courses because Iâve been taking care of my mom. I might not graduate on time because I failed one.â
Christopher nodded, âIâm old buddies with the vice principal of Willowbrook College. Iâll talk to him about it. Donât worry; just take care of your mom.â
âThank you.â
After thanking him, Allison left the study just as Leah returned from the hospital.
âWhere have you been these past few days? Messing around with some guy? What were you talking about in the study?â Leah always had a sharp tongue, but Allison didnât explain or pay her any mind, âWe didnât talk about much. Why donât you ask him yourself?â
Leah squinted her eyes. Allison rarely ventured upstairs unless she was heading to the study to see Christopher.
With this in mind, she hurried upstairs and casually asked, âWhat did Allison want?â
Christopher was engrossed in paperwork when he heard this and slammed the paper down. Looking at Leah, he sighed deeply. âLeah, donât think for a second that I donât know what you did in the hospital.
You moved Grace to the hallway and refused to pay her medical bills. Grace is Joshuaâs wife; how could you do this?â
Upon mentioning this, Leahâs face went pale.
She knew that little brat Allison would tattle!
She was just like her despicable mother!
âIs this really about Joshua? Or is it because Grace is your old flame?â
âShut up!â Christopher slammed his hand on the desk.
Leah was startled by his outburst, but she remained defiant, âI hit the nail on the head, didnât I? Itâs all about Grace!â
From the first time she saw Allison, she thought Allison and her daughter Penelope looked so alikeâ¦
She wouldâve thought Allison was Christopher and Graceâs illegitimate child if it werenât for the paternity test.
She wouldnât let Allison or Grace have an easy life!
