Chapter 402
The Billionaire’s Maid Bride
Grace halted in her tracks, her hands clenched and then relaxed.
âI know I screwed up a lot with you guys.â Christopher said, âIâve arranged a nice position at the company for Allison. Tell her she can come over.â
âNo need,â Grace said firmly, âAllieâs job is just fine. You donât need to worry.â
Christopher sighed, âGrace, youâre still as stubborn.â
Grace left, pushing the door open. She was worried sick about Penelope, but couldnât go see her.
E After leaving the hospital, Grace took out her phone, leaned against a wall, and kept looking at the news. The reports said Penelope was crushed by a chandelier, bleeding heavily, and had a miscarriage. It scared the crap out of her.
Her phone suddenly rang. It was a call from Allison. She wiped away her tears and answered, âHey, Allie.â
âMom, where are you?â Allison asked.
âAllie, I went out to get groceries.â Grace could think of no other excuse.
Allisonâs lips tightened, âMom, I already bought groceries. When are you coming home?â
âIâll be home soon, Allie. Werenât you supposed to be in class today?â Grace asked.
âI didnât have class.â Allison said.
From a store not far from the eastern entrance of the hospital, Allison saw Grace leaving the hospital and getting on a bus. She gripped her phone tight. So Grace really was at the hospital. Was she there to see Penelope?
Her concern for Penelope seemed excessive, as if Penelope was her own daughter.
Allison was startled by her own thought, but quickly dismissed it.
Impossible. How could Penelope be her biological daughter? She was the Flanagan familyâs daughter.
Allison took out her phone and called Lucianâs assistant, Shawn.
Shawn picked up immediately, âMs. Zimmer.â
âShawn, howâs Penelope?â Allison asked.
Shawn choked on her question. He knew the tension between Allison and Penelope, but didnât expect Allison to ask him.
He coughed and glanced at Lucian sitting at his desk, mouthing, âItâs Ms. Zimmer.â
Lucian nodded. Shawn put down the phone and turned on speaker, âMs. Flanagan is still unconscious and hasnât woken up.â
âI thought Penelope was already⦠Thatâs why Lucian has been standing by her side.â Allisonâs voice carried a hint of mockery and jealousy.
Shawn quickly glanced at Lucianâs expression, but Lucian didnât look angry. Shawn immediately said, âMr. Lindberg has been busy with company matters.â
âOh, heâs so busy. Then tell him Iâll be waiting for him at the cinema tonight.â Allison said.
Lucianâs voice was low, âAlright, Iâll be there on time.â
Allison paused, âSo youâre here.â
âAn invitation from you, how could I refuse.â Lucian said.
âI thought youâd be extremely busy these days.â Allison said.
Lucian rubbed his forehead, he was indeed very busy. The companyâs affairs were numerous recently, and with Penelopeâs unconsciousness, the series of events were overwhelming, even for him.
âSee you at tonight.â Lucian said.
The manâs husky voice echoed in her ear. Allison hung up the phone, the words still reverberating.
Unexpectedly, Shawn was with Lucian.
Allison returned home to see Grace had already come back and was preparing lunch in the kitchen.
Grace greeted Allison with a big smile, âAllie, youâre back.â
Allison could see that Graceâs eyes were red. Was it because of Penelope?
âMom, youâ¦â Allison said.
