Chapter 407
The Billionaire’s Maid Bride
Penelope woke up three days later in the afternoon.
The Lindberg family got the news and rushed over immediately.
Miranda looked at Penelope lying in the hospital bed, feeling incredibly grateful.
Penelope saved her life and now she was in this state â her legs and arms broken, suffering from a moderate concussion, multiple bruises all over her body. And to top it off, she had lost her baby.
Penelopeâs gaze landed on Lucian. Her lips trembled, âLucian, Iâm sorry. I couldnât protect our child.â
Lucian took her hand, âPenelope, donât worry about it now. Just rest.â
Penelope closed her eyes, tears spilling from the corners.
Miranda walked over and softly consoled her, âPenelope, itâs not your fault. Youâll have another chance at having a child,â
Leah broke down on Christopherâs shoulder, âYou guys donât understand how much Penelope wanted this baby. She checked up every few days, ate balanced meals, and everyone in our family cherished this child. I canât believe the baby is gone. Penelope, itâs my fault. I shouldâve been there for you.â
Penelope whimpered, âMom, Iâm useless. Thatâs why the babyâs gone.â
Miranda felt guilty, âPenelope, even without this baby, youâre still the best daughter-in-law in my heart.
Youâre still young. You and Lucian will have a child in the future. The most important thing now is to take good care of yourself.â
Penelope wondered how to win over Miranda even more now that she no longer had the âbaby cardâ.
âAre you okay?â Penelope asked.
Miranda was stunned that Penelope, just having woken up from a coma, was still worried about her.
She held Penelopeâs hand, âPenelope, Iâm fine. Thank you. Now rest up. Lucian, stay with Penelope.â
Lucian sat by Penelopeâs side until she fell asleep again, then left. Back at the Lindbergâs, Miranda called for him, âLucian.â
âMom, youâre not sleeping?â It was 2 PM. Miranda hadnât been feeling well since the accident and usually took a nap in the afternoon.
Miranda sighed, âLucian, I can see you donât really like Penelope.â Seeing Lucianâs lips tighten, Miranda knew her son too well. That little gesture meant she was right.
âI know youâre responsible. Penelope saved you and you took her innocence. Now sheâs lost the baby trying to save me. We owe her.â
Miranda said.
âMom, I know what youâre trying to say.â Lucian said.
âLucian, do you have feelings for Allison?â Miranda suddenly asked.
Lucian hesitated, but didnât answer. âMom, just like you said, I donât plan on marrying Penelope, but I have no choice. When she recovers, weâll discuss the wedding. I can give her the title if she wants. As for the rest, Iâm afraid I canât give her.â
âLucian, Iâve known since you were a child that youâre stubborn.â Miranda said, âThere are some similarities between Allison and Penelope.â
âIâm attracted to Allison, not because she reminds me of anyone, but because sheâs enough on her own.â Lucian stood up and gently patted Mirandaâs shoulder, âMom, go rest. Donât worry about this. Iâll handle it.â
