Chapter 409
The Billionaire’s Maid Bride
Britain.
George was in the study, keeping his mom Janita company while she read. Due to Janitaâs poor health, theyâd been living in Britain.
Janita had delicate skin and prominent facial features.
âGeorge, have you heard about what happened to Lucian?â Janita asked.
George answered, âI heard, Penelope seems to be still out cold, and her exact injuries are unknown.â
Janita asked, âLast time you were home, did you meet this woman?â
George answered, âI did, but I donât have a strong impression of her. Iâm even kind of curious why Lucian would marry her?â
Janita was flipping through the book while speaking, âThe Flanagan family only has about 20 million dollars in yearly turnover. Itâs indeed pretty interesting that theyâre marrying into the Lindberg family. But Penelope just lost her baby and went into a coma trying to save Miranda, which could work in our favor.
You know, if this child had been born, it would have been a major bargaining chip for Lucian. Now that the child is gone, we have an opportunity.â
George asked, âMom, do I need to head back home now?â
Janita shook her head, âNot necessary. This incident is very odd, Miranda holds a charity gala every year and it always goes off without a hitch, except this time. I heard she was almost crushed by a falling chandelier, but Penelope pushed her out of the way. Thereâs no way that chandelier just happened to fall, someone definitely tampered with it. If we go back now, suspicion might fall on us.â
George asked, âMom, who do you think did it?â
Even though the Lindberg family had a lot of enemies, no one would dare to be so audacious.
Penelope was 9 months pregnant and her accident was undoubtedly a major blow to the Lindberg family.
Janita closed her book and said, âNext month, itâs Coraâs birthday and I will go back home with you, itâs been a while since Iâve seen Cora. This incident has nothing to do with us, but it gives us an opportunity. Since the opportunity has knocked on our door, we must seize it. Contact Mr. Bryce now, he will know what to do. I believe Lindberg Corporation might be experiencing some turbulence right now.â
George said, âGot it.â
The news of Penelope miscarrying and falling into a coma to save Miranda was widely reported by major media within three days. This incident became the talk of the town in Northfield.
The Lindberg family was under tremendous pressure. Despite their wealth, the public outcry was so great, and they had no choice but to take action. Even with their vast wealth and power, the Lindberg family couldnât suppress the pressure from public opinion.
Lindberg Corporation held a shareholder meeting. At the meeting, some board members suggested Lucian take a break. Lucian responded with a smile, âMr. Bryce, I think itâs you guys who need a break.
If I remember correctly, last month your granddaughter mentioned you were feeling unwell due to high blood pressure. I feel bad to bother you guys. That was thoughtless of me.â
Bryce chuckled, âLucian, Lindberg Corporationâs stock started to drop. Weâre just thinking about the companyâs interests. This company was founded by us and your grandfather, so naturally, we hope the company will be doing well.â
A sarcastic smile flashed in Lucianâs eyes, âMr. Bryce, Mr. Tate, in that case, thereâs something Iâd like to tell you. A few days ago, Bobby used 3 million of the companyâs funds for personal use and hasnât paid it back yet. Iâd like to ask, Mr. Tate, were you aware of this?â
Mr. Tateâs face turned pale instantly. âThisâ¦â
Lucianâs gaze fell on Bryce, âMr. Bryce, what do you think? Bobby misappropriated the companyâs funds, should I proceed legally?â
Bryceâs face turned serious in an instant, and Mr. Tate quickly said, âMr. Bryce, Bobby is like your own grandson.â He then turned towards Lucian, âLucian, youâve known Bobby since you were a kid, why would you do this?â
Lucian chuckled, âYeah, Mr. Tate, why indeed.â
During these days when public opinion was escalating, Lucian knew that these people would come to find him, especially Bryce, given his close relationship with George.
