Chapter 410
The Billionaire’s Maid Bride
In the ward, Penelope was lying in bed. Miranda was standing by her side, holding her hand and saying, âPenelope, the doc says youâre pretty much out of the woods now. Thank god, Iâd be kicking myself if anything happened to you.â
Tears glistened in Penelopeâs eyes, âMiranda, itâs all on me. I didnât protect my and Lucianâs baby.â
âHow can this be your fault, Penelope? Please donât be so hard on yourself. What you need to do now is take care of yourself and get your strength back.â
Penelope gritted her teeth. She seemed fragile on the outside, but inside she felt incredibly frustrated.
She was in this state, and Miranda clearly felt guilty, but she still hadnât taken the initiative to suggest that Lucian marry her. Her voice trembled, âMaybe, I was never meant to have this child.â
Miranda looked at Penelope, âIâve arranged for the best orthopedic surgeon. Donât worry about your broken arm and leg. That kind of injury takes a while to heal.â
Miranda got up to leave, not wanting to disturb Penelopeâs rest.
Seeing Miranda leaving, Penelope hurriedly said, âWhat about Lucian? Will he blame me for not protecting our child?â
âHow could he possibly do that? If anyoneâs to blame, itâs me.â Miranda looked at Penelope lying in the hospital bed, and her heart was filled with profound sadness. If she hadnât insisted on holding the charity gala, if she had done the check-up earlier, maybe all this wouldnât have happened.
Miranda walked out of the room, with Ms. Deborah trailing behind her, âMrs. Lindberg, are you worried about the situation between Mr. Lindberg and Ms. Flanagan?â
Ms. Deborah had been by Mirandaâs side for over thirty years, and was five years older than her.
Normally, Miranda called her Deborah.
âDeborah, do you remember why Lucian wanted to marry Penelope?â
Ms. Deborah responded, âDidnât Mr. Lindberg say he was set up when he first came back to the country and it was Ms. Flanagan who saved him? She lost her chastity in order to save him and Mr. Lindberg felt guilty, wanting to compensate her.â
Miranda said, âYes, but I can tell that Lucian didnât really want to marry her. I once suggested that he and Penelope get married, so that when Penelope gave birth to the child, it would be legitimate. But he refused, saying that the Lindberg familyâs offspring couldnât afford any mistakes, he wanted to wait until Penelope gave birth to the baby before getting married. But nowâ¦â
Ms. Deborah continued, âNow, Ms. Flanaganâs child is gone.â
Miranda continued, âShe was just half a month away from giving birth, but now the child is gone.â
âNow that the child is gone, Lucian doesnât want to marry Penelope, but the external public opinion pressure is huge. He has been doing really well running the Lindberg Corporation recently, and Carter seems to want Lucian to take over the Lindberg Corporation. At this crucial moment, I just hope this doesnât affect him.â
Deborah, âMrs. Lindberg, donât worry, this wonât affect Mr. Lindberg.
Miranda let out a sigh, âI hope so.â
âMiranda, as long as Mr. Lindberg and Ms. Flanagan get married and have children in the future, public opinion will naturally dissipate. Iâm just worried about Mr. Lindberg.â
Miranda looked at Deborah, âDeborah, youâve watched Lucian grow up. You should know his character.
Iâm afraid he doesnât want to marry Penelope now. But we, the Lindberg family, do owe Penelope.â
âIs it becauseâ¦â Deborah thought for a moment, âCould it be because of the woman named Allison?â
âDeborah, donât you think Allison and Penelope look alike?â
âThey do look a bit similar, but⦠thereâs a huge difference in their statuses.â
âDeborah, do you think thereâs a possibility thatâ¦â Miranda suddenly had a thought, maybe her son got the wrong person, the one who saved her son the first time was Allison. But she immediately dismissed this idea. It was too ridiculous, Penelope was already pregnant, the timing matched up, so the one who saved her son the first time was definitely Penelope.
âNever mind, itâs nothing.â
