Chapter 42
The Billionaire’s Maid Bride
The guy was wearing a black tracksuit, looking a bit skinny. He was sporting a black baseball cap with the brim pulled low, creating a relaxed and gloomy vibe.
Allison was pushing the wheelchair, trying to avoid bumps as she slowly descended the stairs. But her strength was limited, and there was no wheelchair ramp here, just steps.
She hesitated before softly suggesting, âYour wheelchair is electric, right? Maybe try adjusting the directionâ¦â
Before she can finish, the guy pressed a button, and the wheelchair seemed to lighten up.
Then, a circular support extended from under the wheels, gripping the slippery steps and slowly moving down. Seeing this, Allison felt a bit superfluous.
She laughed awkwardly. âSo, you can handle it yourself. Thatâs good.â
The guy finally spoke. His voice wasnât deep but slightly hoarse, making it hard to guess his age. âI came up by myself. What do you think? Can I not handle going down?â
Allison pursed her lips. Okay, she was indeed superfluous.
âSorry to bother youâ
She quickly descended the stairs while the guy in the wheelchair looked up. Rain fell around Allisonâs slender figure, leaving a faint scent of cherry blossoms in the air. It was pretty nice.
Soon, Allisonâs figure disappeared from his view. The guy pulled his gaze back, looking indifferentâ¦
After returning from the cemetery, Allison went straight to the hospital. Her momâs condition was getting worse, and she was distraught. As she entered the room, she saw an unwelcome visitor.
âWhy are you here?â Allison looked warily at Penelope standing by the bed. She didnât believe Penelope was here to visit the sick.
Penelope was wearing a mask, wholly wrapped up from head to toe.
Caught off guard by Allisonâs question, Penelopeâs already bad mood worsened. She looked arrogantly at the woman before her, âWho do you think you are, talking to me like that?â
Grace immediately scolded, âAllison, be more respectful to Penelope!â
Penelope scoffed, walked up to Allison, âAllison, donât forget your place.â
She lowered her voice, whispering in Allisonâs ear, âMrs. Lindbergâs position is mine, youâre just a standâin. Donât even dream that Lucian would like someone like you. Your momâs illness⦠it only takes one word from me to kick her out of this hospital.â
Her allergies will be gone soon, and everything will return to normal when Lucian returns from England Allison clenched her fist, finally lowering her head to say, âMiss, you should rest. You shouldnât be walking around.â
âYouâre right.â Penelope said dismissively. âThe air here isnât clean. I hope I wonât catch any germs.â
Allison closed her eyes as Penelope deliberately bumped into her, then walked out of the room in her high heels.
After some time, Allison calmed down and rushed to check on her mom, âMom, did Penelope do anything to you?â
Grace frowned and pushed away Allisonâs hand, unhappy with her attitude, âPenelope came especially to see me; how can you talk to her like that? The Flanagan family has been helping us for so longâ¦*
âMom!â Allison couldnât take it anymore. She couldnât stand how Grace became so submissive whenever the Flanagans were mentioned. âMom, weâre human too. So what if sheâs Miss Flanagan?
Donât you see how she usually treats us? You know Leah isnât nice to us either. Why do we have to be so servile!â
