Chapter 455
The Billionaire’s Maid Bride
Francesâ bedroom was massive, with just the bedroom alone nearly 100 square feet, including a gigantic rotating bookshelf. Daisy, looking at the books on the shelf, asked, âHave you read all these books?â
âYep, read them all.â Frances had been lying in bed for a long time, barely going out and occasionally heading to the garden for some fresh air. Most of his time was spent reading.
He got off the bed, picked up his cane and walked slowly towards Daisy, âIf you like, you can take one.â
Daisy suddenly heard a voice from behind her. She turned around to see Frances standing behind her, which startled her. The book in her hand fell to the floor. Frances bent down to pick it up, and his fingers touched Daisyâs. Her fingers were soft, and she seemed to have a faint smell of fruity sweetness, maybe like orange candy.
Very sweet and pleasant.
Frances was also surprised by this sudden sensation.
âI got it. Iâll pick it up.â Daisyâs cheeks were a bit pink, The manâs fingers were a bit cold. His fingertips were cold, even under the blankets. He must be really sick. With this thought, she felt a slight pain in her heart.
âIâll just borrow one. I read really fast, and I can return it to you tomorrow.â Daisy said quickly.
After saying this, she suddenly thought that she would have to return the book tomorrow. Would this make him think she just wanted to come here on purpose? She was about to explain when she saw Frances smiling gently, âAlright, Miss Daisy. See you tomorrow.â
âSee you tomorrow. And, you donât have to call me Miss Daisy. Just call me Daisy.â Daisy said.
âDaisy.â Frances said.
âMm-hmm, thatâs what my family calls me.â Daisy said.
âAlright, Daisy. See you tomorrow.â Frances replied.
As Daisy left the bedroom, she seemed to be in a good mood. Even John seemed nicer. As she went downstairs, Johnâs gaze followed her, becoming more and more complicated. John knocked on the bedroom door, and after getting permission, he entered, seeing Frances standing in front of the bookshelf with his cane.
âMr. Frances, what book do you want? I can get it for you.â John asked.
âDid Miss Daisy leave?â Frances asked.
âShe just went downstairs. She should be in the living room with Mina now.â John answered.
Frances said, âDonât be so nervous. I think she is quite nice.â
âMiss Daisy does seem nice, but people are unpredictable. Have you forgotten what Mina did before?â
John said.
Frances seemed to be in some pain and closed his eyes, âOf course, I havenât forgotten.â
When Daisy went downstairs, she saw Mina sitting in the living room, seemingly waiting for her. She walked over and said, âMrs. Pearson.â
Mina immediately noticed the book in Daisyâs hand, âIt seems you had a good chat with Frances.â
âWe chatted for a while. He likes to read, so I borrowed a book.â Daisy said.
âHow is his health? What was he doing in his room?â Mina asked.
Daisy felt a knot in her stomach. As she suspected, Mina was using her to keep an eye on Frances.
She said, âHe was reading in his room when I went in. As for his health, I canât really say, but he looked very weak. His lips were pale.â
Daisy had heard about the complex grudges of the Boswell family. The power struggles between wealthy families were always scary. It was rumored that Francesâ car accident was manipulated by Mina, but there was no evidence.
Daisy could guess what Mina was worried about.
Frances was a prominent figure in the business world. Naturally, Mina would worry about Frances gradually recovering and then planning to take over Boswell Enterprises. In her heart, Mina might even hope that Francesâ illness would worsen.
