Chapter 550
The Billionaire’s Maid Bride
He said to Robbie, âYou slept with Penelope? Whatâs your proof? Sheâs a real blue blood, a rich girl.
And you? Youâre just a street rat.â
Robbieâs eyes lit up at the mention of sex. âHughes, you donât know the half of it. Penelopeâs a wild one between the sheets. I had a fling with her at the Blue Club once. Got it on video.â
Hughesâ interest was aroused. âSend me that video.â
Robbie couldnât refuse. âItâs at my cousinâs house. I didnât dare keep it at mine. Penelope came sniffing around for it once, and asked me to delete everything. But I kept a backup, just in case.â
âYou stay put right here, Robbie. Donât you dare step out of the Blue Club. I donât know who youâve pissed off, but someoneâs got a price. on your head,â he warned. His voice was heavy with the threat..
Of course, no one was really out to take Robbie down, but there had been too many people asking about him lately. Hughes figured it was probably due to that video. He felt it was better to keep the guy under his watchful eye.
Robbieâs bravado faded, and the fear crept into his voice. âMr. Hughes, you must help me.â Robbie had made enemies, plenty of them, so he couldnât guess who was out for blood. He turned to Hughes for help.
âStay inside the Blue Club and keep your mouth shut, and Iâll keep you breathing,â he said sternly.
âGot it, got it. Iâm on it.â
As Hughes turned to leave, Robbie called out, âHey, can I have my cousin come over? Havenât seen her for days, and I kinda miss her.â
Hughes knew better. Robbieâs cousin was nothing of the sort. She must be an old flame.
âKeep your cousinâs lips sealed,â he warned.
âCrystal clear.â
This room was where Hughes dealt with business. He pushed the door open and there was Emma, already waiting on the couch.
âI got that video you wanted,â he said as he approached her.
âThanks a lot,â Emma replied. Her voice was tinged with a husky gratitude.
âIâve got Robbie holed up in the Blue Club. No one else is getting to him. That other crowd youâre worried about? They wonât find him,â Hughes assured her.
Emma felt a wave of relief. âThank you, Mr. Hughes,â she said. Her voice was so sexy that Hughes couldnât control himself at all.
He stepped closer. âI donât need your money, nor your thanks.â
Emmaâs eyes widened slightly as she looked up at him. Hughes was all pale skin. His careless blonde hair fell just so, giving him a roguish charm. His nose was sharp. His features were chiseled.
He leaned in closer, catching her scent of jasmine. âIf Iâm not mistaken, the people after Robbie this afternoon were Penelopeâs goons, right? Youâre with the other team, arenât you?â
Emma didnât bother to hide the truth. âMy boss is Allison,â she admitted.
âAllisonâ¦â Hughes rolled the name around in his mind. It sounded vaguely familiar. Maybe a celeb or something; he didnât keep up with the news, but he was sure heâd heard it recently.
âI spent all afternoon tracking down Robbie, then shelled out a cool three hundred grand to buy him from Darian. Now, Iâve blocked Penelopeâs people from getting to him. So, tell me, how do you plan to thank me?â
Emma wasnât some naive little girl. âWhat do you want in return?â she asked, knowing the score.
Hughes locked eyes with her. âWhen a guy does a favor for a lady, what do you think he wants in return?â
