Chapter 553
The Billionaire’s Maid Bride
Penelope realized the seriousness of the matter. âMom, we have to find Robbie before Allison does.
Heâs got a bunch of my videos and photos. If they are exposed, Iâd be ruined. The Lindberg Corporation would call off the engagement for sure.â
Leah was acutely aware of the severity of the matter. Robbie was nothing but a street thug without any real principles. Heâd dance to the tune of whoever flashed the most cash.
Penelope had approached Robbie once before to keep him quiet about the compromising material.
She asked him to pin the photos on Allison. The issue resurfacing now was a bad sign. If Allison got Robbie first, Penelopeâs world would come crashing down.
âAre you still in contact with Robbie? How many videos and photos does he have?â Leah probed.
âJust⦠six months ago,â Penelope admitted. âI met with Robbie, gave in to his threats just once, and I havenât seen him since.â
Leah slammed her hand on the table in frustration. âPenelope! Youâve seriously disappointed me!â
Penelope pleaded, âMom, I didnât want to, but Robbie threatened me. Then I just⦠did it.â Moving closer to comfort her mother, she began to massage Leahâs shoulders. âI havenât been in touch with Robbie since then.â
Margo chimed in, âLadies, thereâs no need to fret. Allisonâs folks havenât found Robbie either. Iâve got my cousin watching the haunts Robbie frequents. Weâll know the moment he shows up.â
Leah tried to stay positive. âLetâs hope for the best. Allison hasnât found him yet. For now, weâre not facing the worst of it.â She turned to Penelope. âDid you create that account?â
Penelope couldnât lie. âIt was Nathalieâs idea. The plan was hers. Iâm sorry, Mom. Iâll be good from now on, I promise.â
Despite her stern words, Leahâs love for her daughter was unwavering. Penelope, the cherished girl of the Flanagan family, could do no wrong. Whenever Christopher scolded her, she would hide behind Leah, who invariably took her side.
Holding Penelopeâs hand, Leah said with heartfelt emotion, âOh, Penelope, I nearly lost my life giving birth to you. How could I not cherish you? I hate Allison as much as you do, but nowâs not the time to clash with her. You need to get well, conceive Lucianâs child quickly, and cement your place so you can marry into the Lindberg family in style. Then, youâll make your comeback in showbiz. Iâll manage your future opportunities. Once youâre back in the spotlight, Allison wonât matter. Thereâs no need to squabble with her over petty issues.â
This time, Penelope truly understood the stakes. âI get it, Mom. I wonât let you down.â
Back in her bedroom, Penelope reached out to Pete. âPete, I need a favor.â
âName it.â
âFind someone named Robbie for me.â
âWhat, an old flame of yours?â
âNo, Pete, youâre the only one for me. Iâve run into some trouble, and Robbieâs a key player. Heâs got old videos of mine that could cause a scandal. Pete, youâre the only one who can help.â
Peteâs network was extensive, and his methods varied. Locating someone in Northfield was childâs play for him. Right now, Pete and Penelope were in the same boat. He readily agreed to help.
With Peteâs commitment, Penelope felt a weight lift off her shoulders. She trusted in Peteâs capabilities and resourcefulness.
