The Bonfire... Or Party?
My New Stepbrother.
"Kelly. There isn't much I can say that I haven't already said. Besides, you are my new beginning. And If I have to keep proving that, I want to do it for the rest of my life... So will you marry me?"
"Yes."
"What?" I was shocked to say the least. Bewildered that she had said yes. Amazed that my father had finally found someone good.
But kind of sad that she wasn't my mom to begin with.
"Yes?" My father smiled then gently placed the ring on Kelly's finger.
"Michael this is absolutely amazing."
"You're amazing."
Ew.
"Mom, I have to go." Mason stood from the table.
"Oh yes. The bonfire." She snapped out of her 'I'm in love' Daze to pay Mason the little bit of attention she could.
"Yeah. and I should leave now."
"Oh, Mason, I have an Idea. Why don't you take Charlotte with you."
"What?" Bonfire? Um no thank you.
"Sure, she can tag along."
"No, no I-its fine. I don't have to go."
"Why not Charls, it'll be fun, you can do something besides sit in your room and read all night."
"DAD. Please."
"Oh Come on Charlie, I don't bite."
"Ya, but I'm pretty sure your friends do." I whispered under my breath.
Apparently not quiet enough because my dad heard.
"Charlotte Rose."
"Michael Fray."
"There's no winning with you, is there?"
"Why don't you go Charlie. Have a little fun."
"But. Not too much fun."
"Fine. I'll Go!"
"Good. Let's Go."
I abruptly sat up from my seat and followed Mason out of the house cringing as the cold air hit my bare legs.
He unlocked the doors to an amazing car that I honestly don't need to go into detail on. Because who really wants to make this all about a car.
I went to open the door to the backseat but Mason stopped me. "Charlotte seriously, I wont bite you, you can sit in the front seat."
I nodded and climbed into the front seat. "So you really don't talk much do you?"
"No, that's apart of keeping to myself."
"Why do you keep to yourself?"
"Does it really matter?" I started playing with my fingers.
"No, I guess not."
The rest of the car ride was pretty quiet, and kind of awkward.
After the dreadfully quiet car ride, we finally pulled up in front of this house.
There were girls dressed in less clothing than I wear at the beach, if that's even possible... There was also a guy passed out on the lawn, people puking in the bushes, music so loud I couldn't hear myself think.
"This is a bonfire?" I, somewhat scared, looked at Mason. A smile appeared on his face.
"Not exactly, I may have fibbed a little, this is a party." He let out a chuckle that nearly made me faint, but I kept my cool.
"Oh so this is a party..." A guy came up to the car and slammed onto the window in attempt to get Mason's attention.
Mason rolled down the window and the smell of.... Marijuana... and beer was very distinct on him.
"Maaasssooonn Bro." The way he spoke, he slurred his words, it was obvious he was indeed either high or drunk. Probably both.
"Hey what's up, James." Mason and 'James' did this handshake thing across the car and I scooted my chair back in order to remain untouched.
"Oh Mase, who's the hottie." Okay....
"Um, I have a name. And it definitely isn't Hottie."
"She's Charlie." he nodded his head towards me.
"Well, heeyy Charlie." his breath wreaked  of beer.
Ew. He breath smelled terrible, but it didn't seem to bother Mason. Which probably meant that he was around it on a regular basis.
"Hey, James, why don't you go back in the house and save me and Charlie a beer."
"But, I don't --" before I could get the rest of my words out, he retreated back into the house screaming. "I don't drink Mason."
"Did you want James to stay, cause I could always call him back." he smiled slightly.
"No, please no."
"Well lets get you to your first party." he started to open the door but my words stopped him.
"Ooooorrr I could just sit in the car and read the book that I snuck in my purse... That's always an option..." I started to reach my hand in my bag to get the book when Mason stopped me.
"Oh come on, how many parties have you been to?"
"None, but I'm perfectly fine with that."
"Are you sure? Have a little fun for once. And by fun, I mean partying, not getting lost in Narnia or worst the hunger games arena."
"Actually, I'm fighting with vampires." I pulled Vampire Academy out of my purse.
"And that's better how?" He took the book from my hands and threw it into the back seat. "Come on." he unbuckled my seat belt and jumped out of the car.
Seconds later my door opened and I was dragged out of the seat. "Do I have to carry you inside to. Because I could." he put his hands behind my legs and began to lift me until I started flailing around.
"I can walk!" he put me down. "Never, ever do that again." I stormed off towards the house. He followed behind. But I swear I heard him whisper, 'Cant make any promises.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alcohol. That's all I smelled. And oh my, the smell was strong. It was like someone spent their whole day pouring beer on the carpet and furniture.
Going further into the house, it began to smell a lot like puke. I started to gag a little but did my best to contain myself.
Everyone was either dancing, more like grinding, or standing in the corner trying to eat their partners faces off.
Ew.
"Are you sure you don't want a drink?" I have never tasted alcohol, and for everyone's sake, I hope I never will.
"No thanks."
"Okay well I'm going to go find Lily. You should come to, you know to meet her. I bet she'll love you."
"Um, I'm fine on that to." I'd rather not meet the girl who wants to kill me.
With a simple nod, Mason disappeared into the crowd of people. I spotted a couch with only a few people sitting on it.
As I headed to the couch, I was offered at least 3 drinks, which I politely declined, at least 2 people touched my butt, and some drunk guys tried hitting on me. So far parties were not my thing.
I made it to the couch without physical or emotional damage. But as I went to sit down, at least 5 girls pushed me out of the way and took my seat. Oh that's cool.
So much for not being physically harmed.
Looking around, there were no more places to sit, so I did what I had to do and decided that only place I could sit was in the car, with my book... perfectly safe.
I made my way to the door, only to stopped by Mason. "Giving up already?"
"Not giving up, just... retiring for the night... yeah retiring." I opened the door only for it to be closed by Mason.
"Your not leaving just yet."
"And Whhhy cant I?"
"Because, you haven't enjoyed yourself."
"The only way I'll enjoy myself, is if I leave!" I turned around and opened the door. "Maybe, next time." I went to the car and grabbed my book out of the backseat. I settled into the front seat, leaning back in the seat.
I got so lost into my book, I didn't notice I fell asleep. The slam of a car door brought me out of my sleep. A very drunken Mason, fumbling to put the key into the ignition.
I snatched the keys out of his hand and he cursed. "You shouldn't be driving drunk."
"I'm not drunk, just intoxicated... oh wait, that's the same thing isn't it?"
"Yeah."
"Then your right." he slurred,"I shouldn't be driving." he opened the door and fell into the street. I had to hold back a laugh.
He stood from the ground and stumbled to the side of the car where I was. "Your a sloppy drunk."
"I'm not sloppy, I'm a graceful ballerina." he proceeded to do a few of what he thought were ballerina moves.
"Yes graceful indeed." I let out a small giggle.
I got into the drivers seat and buckled myself in.
He crawled into the passengers seat and pretend to buckle himself in. He turned to me and smiled. I laughed and reached over him to get the seatbelt to buckle him in.
I sat back and he lifted his head up, bumping into mine. "Ouch." I turned to look at him only to see he was still really close to my face.
He was staring at me. " Your so beautiful.." Huh?
I finished buckling his seatbelt and shoved the key into the ignition.
Taking off I realized had no clue as to where I was going. I turned to ask Mason but he was sound asleep in the passenger seat. I pulled out my phone to check the time. Ten past 12.
With everyone I know sleeping, I decided to take my best guess on the drive home.
After 10 false turns, I finally found the freeway. And after getting on the wrong freeway, I found the right one and made my way to Mason's house.
I pulled up in front of the large house thankful to see that dads car was still there and a light was still on, but kind of worried because Mason was drunk.
I tapped his shoulder until he woke up. He looked out the car window and groaned.
I got out the car and passed him his keys. "Oh and by the way, your out of gas." He groaned again.
Oops.
