Meeting Her.
My New Stepbrother.
Mason's POV
"Mason honey can you please clean your room, its a mess. I swear every time I step in here, I step on something gooey, and its unnerving." My mom bugs.
"Here's an idea, stop coming in here." I remark. She rolls her eyes and leaves the room.
"Oh and by the way," she turns around and gives the sweetest smile she could muster up. "We have guest coming this evening so, I advise you to clean up your attitude and change your clothes, you smell like a garbage." She plugs her nose and continues down the hall, her heels making the most annoying clicking noise ever.
I grab the corner of my shirt and sniff it. I almost puke, she was right. I snatch my shirt off and throw it onto the floor in the pile of other dirty shirts.
My phone goes off and Lily's name pops up. I quickly pick up the phone. "Hey."
"Baaabbbee." Her voice rings through the phone and I almost groan because its so high pitched. "There's a party tonight, you should come."
"I cant, my mom is having guest over tonight." She sighs into the phone.
"Can't you like cancel? I really want you to come."
"Fine, I guess I could tell my mom that I have to leave early." She squeals into the phone. "K Byyee." The she hangs up.
"Mason." My mom yells up the stairs.
"Yeah?" I yell back, partly because I'm too lazy to actually get up and see what she wants.
"Their almost here, are you ready at all?" Oh yeah, her guest.
Instead of answering her, I grab a towel and go to the bathroom. I take a quick shower, hating the way the steam fogs up the bathroom.
Wrapping the towel around my waist I trudge back to my room to see if i could at least find something clean for this stupid dinner.
I check my drawers and find a white button up shirt and some dark jeans. I throw them on quickly and find some shoes.
After at least 15 minutes of looking, I give up and throw on my gym shoes..
I run my hand threw my hair a few times, not really caring how I look, seeing as I'm leaving anyways.
About 20 minutes later I hear my mom yelling up the stairs again. "Mason Their here please hurry down."
I hear the door open and I'm assuming my mom let her guest in so I go down stairs.
"Will do, come in please. Mason will be down soon." My mom speaks softly.
"Mason? Is that your dog?" I hear an unfamilar voice and as I look downstairs, I see a girl about my age. I cant see her face clearly, but from here she looks hot.
I made my way downstairs, capturing everyones attention.
"Mason, this is... oh where'd she go... Oh there she is. Come on out don't be shy. Mason this is Charlotte Rose. " My mom introduces the girl as she slides out from behind what I'm assuming is her dad.
Hot was definitely underestimated. She had deep brown eyes, creamy skin and long brown hair. This girl was beautiful.
She stuck out her small hand out towards me "Call me Charlie." She smiled and it was the most amazing thing I've seen today. I attempted to smile back but only ended up with a smirk.
"I'm Mason. Its nice to meet you, Charlie."
"I-Its nice to meet you too." She stumbles.
"Well, we'll leave you two to talk... Mike, do you want a drink?" My mom states.
She leads him into the dining hall, while Charlie and I sit in the living room.
"And just when I thought this house couldn't get any better. This living room is amazing." Charlie mumbles to herself. I'm guessing didn't mean to say that aloud.
"Thanks, my mother really likes to focus on interior design." She looks alarmed which confirms my suspicion.
I sit down on the couch and she looks rather scared, and she's still standing. "Are ya, um gonna sit down?"
"I'd rather not..." She spoke in a quiet tone. She seemed nervous, which was weird. "Come on, I don't bite... yet."Â She let out a small gasp. "I'm kidding. Seriously, please sit down.. I'd really like to get to know you." I smiled at her again.
She slowly walks to the couch and sits on the further side. Away from me.
In attempt to clear the awkward air, I start, or at I try to, a conversation.
"So umm, why don't I see you around school, I mean, its kind of hard to not notice a gorgeous girl like you."
She breaks into coughing fit. And for a moment, I'm not sure if she's okay. "Um what?" She answers after she stops coughing.
"I said you were gorgeous. Why is that so surprising, its obviously true." She tucks her hair behind her ear.
"I like to keep to myself" She speaks so quietly, I almost ask her to repeat it. But instead I ask "Why?"
She kinda hesitates to answer, and eventually, I'm pretty sure she zones out. So I decide to take advantage of the situation.
"So what do you think?" I ask her and she looks completely lost, It's almost adorable.
"Huh?" She looks at me as if I had three heads, so I decide to prod futher.
"I said what do you think? You were listening right?" She looks panicked.
"Yeah, I uh, uh I think its great." I put the most horrified look on my face and her face turns from panicked, to terrified. " I mean its uh bad? Neutral? Butterflies?" Butterflies?
"I'm joking. I noticed you sort off in your own world and I took advantage of it. We weren't talking about anything important, trust me."Â I smile.
She lets out a low breath of relief. My mom soon bounced into the room, in her normal bubbly way "Dinner is ready." she smiled at Charlie and we followed her into the dinning hall.
Charlie sat at the table opposite of me. There was a big plant in front of me and I wanted so badly to knock it down.
Charlie's dad was talking to me about a game that came on the previous night before. I was into it until he stood up.
He knelt down on one knee and I couldn't help but notice how Charie's face paled. She quickly recovered into a small smile.
"Kelly. There isn't much I can say that I haven't already said. Besides, you are my new beginning. And If I have to keep proving that, I want to do it for the rest of my life... So will you marry me?"
"Yes." She beamed.
"Yes?" Michael smiled then gently placed the ring on My mom's finger.
"Michael this is absolutely amazing."
"You're amazing."
I gagged.
I stood up from the table, quicker than I needed to. "Mom, I have to go." I pointed at my watch.
"Oh yes. The bonfire." She turned to me still smiling and admiring the new ring on her finger.
"Yeah. and I should leave now."
"Oh, Mason, I have an Idea. Why don't you take Charlotte with you."
"What?"
"Sure, she can tag along." I agreed.
"No, no I-its fine. I don't have to go." She stuttered
"Why not Charls, it'll be fun, you can do something besides sit in your room and read all night."
"DAD. Please." her pale cheeks turned red.
"Oh Come on Charlie, I don't bite."
"Ya, but I'm pretty sure your friends do." I heard Charlotte say under her breath.
Obvioisly not quiet enough because Michael heard.
"Charlotte Rose."
"Michael Fray."
"There's no winning with you, is there?" he sighs
"Why don't you go Charlie. Have a little fun."
"But. Not too much fun." my mom giggled at Mchael's seriousness.
"Fine. I'll Go!" She finally groaned.
"Good. Let's Go." I headed out the door.
I unlocked the doors and Charlotte went to open the backseat door. "Charlotte seriously, I wont bite you, you can sit in the front seat."
She nodded and nervously sat in the seat next to me. "So you really don't talk much do you?"
"No, that's apart of keeping to myself." She remarked, but the snarkiness in her tone didnt go unnoticed.
"Why do you keep to yourself?" I prodded further.
"Does it really matter?" She looked down to her fingers.
"No, I guess not." I gave up.
The rest of the car ride was eerily quiet and it was unnerving.
We pulled up in front of the house and It was already trashed. Drunk people stumbled around, girls puked, guys hunted.
"This is a bonfire?"
"Not exactly, I may have fibbed a little, this is a party."
"Oh so this is a party..." She looked back at the house.
James stumbled to the car. I rolled down the window of the car.
"Masooon Broo"
"Hey what's up, James." James leans into the car and we do this handshake thing.
"Oh Mase, who's the hottie." Charlie cringes at the nickname
"Um, I have a name. And it definitely isn't Hottie." She remarks backing farther into the seat.
"She's Charlie." I nod toward her.
"Well, heeyy Charlie." She cringed again.
"Hey, James, why don't you go back in the house and save me and Charlie a beer." I say to try and get him away.
"But, I don't --" She turns to me. "I don't drink Mason."
"Did you want James to stay, cause I could always call him back." She frowned.
"No, please no."
"Well lets get you to your first party." I opened the door.
"Ooooorrr I could just sit in the car and read the book that I snuck in my purse... That's always an option..." She tries to reach her hand but I stop her.
"Oh come on, how many parties have you been to?"
"None, but I'm perfectly fine with that." She smiles.
"Are you sure? Have a little fun for once. And by fun, I mean partying, not getting lost in Narnia or worst the hunger games arena."
"Actually, I'm fighting with vampires." She pulles Vampire Academy out of her purse.
"And that's better how?" I snatched the book from her hand and through it into . "Come on." I unbuckle her seat belt and jump out of the car.
"Do I have to carry you inside to. Because I could." Instead of waiting for an answer, I pick her up out of the car.
"I can walk!" I put her down. "Never, ever do that again." She stormed off towards the house. I followed behind. "Cant make any promises."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Are you sure you don't want a drink?" I ask her.
"No thanks."
"Okay well I'm going to go find Lily. You should come to, you know to meet her. I bet she'll love you."
She immediately frowns "Um, I'm fine on that to."
I walk into the kitchen to find Lily. I spot the with blonde hair and red tips.
I wrap my arms around her waist, she giggles and turns around and pecks me on the lips. "You made it."
"Of course I did. " She smiles again.
Carly, her red head friend clears her throat and I roll my eyes. "Hey Carls, why don't you go keep you're drunk brother from hitting on taken girls and gettign beaten to a pulp by their boyfriends."
She lets out a low groan and screams 'James' before walking away.
"One day, he's gonna push someone to far, and lord knows, Carly will just get dragged into it." Lily stated sounding more caring than usual. It was a good look on her.
She was normally bitchy, but she truly did care for Carly, she's known her since they were kids. She helped Carls through everything she's been dealing with, which has been a lot.
I spot Charlie making her way towards the door "Giving up already?"
"Not giving up, just... retiring for the night... yeah retiring."Â She opens the door only for it to be closed by me.
"Your not leaving just yet."
"And Whhhy cant I?"
"Because, you haven't enjoyed yourself." I somewhat whine.
"The only way I'll enjoy myself, is if I leave!"Â She turns around and opens the door. "Maybe, next time." And then she's gone.
"Who was that?" Lily comes by my side taking my hand in hers.
I give her a reassuring squeeze and smile "No one important"
The rest of the night is blurred out by drinking.
I stumbled out of the house and into the car, fumbling to get the keys into the blury ignition.
The keys that were once in my hand, were soon snatched out of them, I looked over to her. Shit, I forgot she was here "You shouldn't be driving drunk."
"I'm not drunk, just intoxicated... oh wait, that's the same thing isn't it?"
"Yeah."
"Then your right, I shouldn't be driving." I opened the dppr and tumbled into the street.
I got up off of the ground and stumbled over to where she was standing. "Your a sloppy drunk."
"I'm not sloppy, I'm a graceful ballerina." I started to do a few ballerina moves.
"Yes graceful indeed."Â She let out a small giggle.
I got into the drivers seat and buckled myself in.
I crawled into the passengers seat and pretend to buckle myself in. I turned to her and smiled. She laughed and reached over to buckle me in.
I lifted my head at the same time she sat back, bumping her head into mine. "Ouch."
I looked into her deep brown eyes. " Your so beautiful.." Huh?
She blushed and finished buckling my seat belt. I didnt mean to say that.
I felt a slight tapping on shoulder waking me from my sleep.
She tossed me the keys. "Oh and by the way, your out of gas." .She lets out a low laugh.
Dammit.
