45 Timothyâs phone buzzed unexpectedly as he walked out of his apartment. Glancing at the screen, he saw an unknown number displayed. Curious, he answered the call.
âHello?â
âHey, Timothy. Itâs Arial Can you come over to my apartment? Thereâs something important we need to discuss,â Ariaâs voice, usually light and carefree, held a hint of urgency.
âSure, Iâll be right there,â Timothy replied, a sense of anticipation settling over him. He couldnât help but wonder what could be so important that Aria needed to discuss it in person.
As Timothy walked across the hall to Evie and Ariaâs apartment, he found the atmosphere unusual.
Aria poked her head out, looked in both directions, and dragged him inside. He first spotted Lucas on the couch, huddled over the coffee table with some papers strewn about.
The room buzzed with an energy that felt both secretive and purposeful. He looked around, expecting Evie to come walking out, but her presence didnât seem apparent.
âTimothy, hey! Thanks for coming.â Lucas greeted him, a forced smile playing on her lips.
Timothy nodded in acknowledgment, though his eyes were guarded. âGood to see you again.â
There was no further explanation as Aria guided him over to the couch and all but threw him onto it before taking a seat across from him on the floor.
Timothy furrowed his brows, sensing an unspoken tension in the air. âWhatâs going on? Why all the secrecy?â
Aria exchanged a glance with Lucas before sighing. âTimothy, we need you to be discrete about what youâre about to hear. Itâs important.â
The cryptic nature of their words heightened Timothyâs curiosity. âOkay, Iâm all ears. Whatâs happening?â
Lucas took a deep breath, choosing his words carefully. âWeâve been planning a trip to the lake, you know, the one weâve been talking about for a while. But weâve had to push it back because Evie has been so busy lately.â
Aria chimed in, her eyes darting between Timothy and Lucas. âSo, we thought, why not celebrate Evieâs birthda Fur From REDE Emergency calls only L $2047%

Timothyâs eyes widened with realization. The puzzle pieces fell into place, and he couldnât help but smile. âAh, I see! Thatâs a brilliant idea. Of course, Iâll help with any arrangements you need.â
Relief washed over Aria and Lucasâs faces as they exchanged a glance. âThank you, Timothy! We count on you,â Aria said, her tone softening.
knew we could As Timothy headed back to his car, thoughts of the surprise celebration swirled in his mind. He felt a surge of excitement at the prospect of making Evieâs birthday special. And to think, he had almost spent it watching Stella walk down the aisle.
He unlocked his car, hearing the familiar click of the locks. As he looked up, however, he spotted someone leaning against it.
His father, Kamran, stood there, a stern expression etched on his face.
âTimothy,â Kamran said, his voice low and controlled. âWe need to talk.â
Timothy sighed, the weight of the unspoken tension settling over him. âWhatâs there to talk about, Dad?â
Kamranâs gaze bore into Timothy, frustration evident in his eyes. âYou havenât been returning my calls. We canât keep avoiding this.â
Timothy shrugged, feigning indifference. âIâve been busy, Dad. You know how it is.â
Kamranâs jaw clenched, the lines of worry deepening on his forehead. âThis is more than just being busy, Timothy. We used to have a better understanding, a connection. I donât want to lose that.â
Timothy leaned against his car, a sense of weariness settling in. âThings change, Dad, and the only reason youâre looking for a âconnectionâ with me now is because your prodigal son ran off.â
Kamranâs frustration flared, and he took a step closer. âRegardless of whatever transpired in the past, Iâm your father, Timothy. You canât shut me out like this.â
Timothy hesitated, noting how his father had conveniently blocked the driverâs side door. âItâs complicated, Dad. I have my own life now, my own challenges. I canât always live up to your expectations, so we might as well go our sperate ways and not disappoint eachother any more than we already have.â

Timothy met his fatherâs gaze. âWhy canât you just accept that I donât want that? I donât want to feel like a constant burden.â
Kamran sighed and pushed himself away from the car. He approached Timothy and clapped a hand on his shoulder. âI donât want to lose you, Timothy. Youâre my son. Iâve already lost aâ¦a wife.â
Timothy looked away, a sense of guilt gnawing at him. âI need some time, Dad. I canât promise anything right now.â
Kamran nodded, a sense of resignation in his gaze. âI hear you, but can we at least try to be civil?
Iâd like that Timothy hesitated. âIâll think about it.â
Kamran nodded in acknowledgment, accepting Timothyâs terms. âFair enough. Take the time you need.â
He moved away, giving Timothy the space to open his car door. Before he could dip inside, however, Kamran spoke up once more.
âTimothy, thereâs something else I wanted to talk to you about.â
Timothy paused. âWhat?â
âDinner. With Mia and me. What do you say?â
The unexpected invitation caught Timothy off guard. Dinner with his father and Mia, a woman heâd met only once. This also confirmed that this woman was anything but a receptionist. The idea of having dinner with the both of them stirred both curiosity and apprehension within him.
âDinner?â Timothy repeated, skepticism coloring his tone. âWhy now?â
Kamran sighed, a hint of frustration in his voice. âTimothy, Iâm trying to bridge the gap between us.
Mia suggested it might be a good idea to spend some time together, get to know each other again.
Can you at least consider it?â
Timothy raised an eyebrow, his guarded expression returning. âMia suggested it? Or is this your way of trying to prove something to her?â

I genuinely want to find a way for us to coexist peacefully. Mia thought dinner could be a starting point. You can bring your new girlfriend too, if youâd like.â
The mention of Evie as his new girlfriend stirred a pang of discomfort within Timothy. He wasnât sure how much he wanted to reveal about his personal life. His father had already discussed his disapproval of Evie, and he was weary of dragging Evie to a dinner where she could face more of his scrutiny.
âIâll see,â Timothy conceded, the word carrying a weight of reluctance. âAbout the dinner. But donât expect it to magically fix everything.â
