To Love Him | ✔

Sammy Walcott

"Two points home!"

I swing my stick around with a smirk. Everybody on our side of the bleachers all get up cheering and I'm able to find Elijah. He's trying to cheer and keep the rain out of his face, its adorable.

"Nice one Dave, nice one!" Coach shouts, then raises his thumbs at me too. I made the pass to Dave, he scored.

Dave nudges his head at me. I roll my eyes at his way of saying thanks. Thankfully the game's over, our school winning with over six points. I watch as some big guy from the other team pushes a team mate to the ground, towering over the thin boy like a gorilla.

"What? Just because you won now you think you're king? Eh Stinky?" The gorilla asked, other guys were watching but too chicken to do anything about it.

I sighed going over to them and stretching my hand over to the guy on the ground. He shakily takes it, stands up, murmurs a thank you and runs off. I about to follow suit when the gorilla lays his hand on me.

"What's your problem dude?!"

I glare at his hand on my shoulder, then gently shrugs it off. "Pick on someone your own size or at least the people responsible for us winning." I nudged my head at Dave and his eyes widened in fear immediately.

The gorilla pulled off his helmet showing that he's truly a gorilla. "How about I pick on you?"

"Bad idea man. Just go home."

Then he shoved me. Thankfully I didn't fall, just moved back. I glared at him, my fist tightening on the lacrosse stick. I took a step forward but unfortunately Coach was already in between us, talking to the gorilla.

"Hey," Elijah said behind me, a hand resting on my shoulder. I sighed turning to him. "Cool game Sammy, you deserve a medal."

"I know right?" I boasted picking up a ball and aiming it at gorilla.

"Sammy..."

"Sshhh." I threw the ball and watched in satisfaction as it hit the gorillas head with a loud thump. I burst out laughing, making sure he knows that it me that hit him. Gorilla glares and does the universal sign of I'm watching you before leaving.

"You best stay away from me, I've looked for trouble." I warned Elijah as we walked back into the school.

"You can't help it can you?" I shrugged in response. "Well now I have more reasons to stick around."

"Whatever, I won't save your ass when trouble comes." I say to him opening up the locker room and going in.

"Look who's talking. I can save my and your ass too. Have you seen me?" He asked raising up his well developed biceps and flexing his arms.

I chuckle tearing my eyes away from him. "Get out, this is the locker room."

"Yup and I'm allowed in." He says taking a seat and wiggling his brows at me.

I bite my lip watching him, suddenly I don't feel like changing anymore. Every other person was changing comfortably, not minding him at all. My clothes were sticky and whether I wanted or not, I had to change. I didn't need a bath, it was still raining heavily outside. I shrugged deciding to ignore Elijah, which is a lot harder than I thought.

I pulled off my clothes and I could feel his eyes on me. Its not the first time I'm being watched, boys watched each other in here a lot but this is the first time I'm self conscious about my body and this is the first time I actually find myself blushing.

I manage to change and put on my pants. However when I'm about to put on my hoodie, I almost lose my mind when I feel Elijah's warm hand on my really cold body. I flinched and my heart started racing.

"What happened here?" He asked his fingers trailing something on my back.

I divert my mind from how good his touch feels and try to remember exactly what he is talking about. It doesn't take me long to remember. I have a lot of scars on me, many have faded out but some still stand out. Currently Elijah's hand was tracing my biggest scar, it ran across my back, clearly visible.

I remember when I got that. It involved Dennis and a long chain pipe. I was still young at mind and I didn't really know how dangerous he was. He sent me to the hospital and I can say that's the time I felt closer to death than any other time. And now Elijah was staring at it and touching it too. Of all things to see and touch, it had to be the ugly scar.

I backed away from him, quickly pulling my shirt on. "Accident."

"Accident? What kind?" He asked, his face filled with concern. But that didn't faze me, his 'concern' did nothing to help me. I could literally smell the pity and the 'oh poor Sammy' coming out of him.

"Accident. Period." I say going around him to grab my bag and shut my locker.

"Sammy," Elijah called placing a hand on my shoulder.

I backed away with a murderous glare. "Don't touch me."

Elijah raised his hands up taking a step back and the remaining boys in the locker room were now looking at us. I grabbed my bag and stormed off.

"Sammy what's wrong?" I hear Elijah ask as he trailed after me.

"Nothing. We're done for today." I tell him, not bothering to look back.

"Come on... says who?"

This time I did turn back. "Says me ok. Fuck off."

I don't even know who I'm angry at. At myself for having such a distinctive scar? At Elijah for noticing just that when I was practically blushing at him looking at me? Or at Stupid fucking Dennis, for doing this to me, making me look strange and pitiful and disgusting. I don't know anything anymore.

I can still hear and feel Elijah behind me. He doesn't understand English anymore. I'm so mad I just want to release the excess energy, preferably on Dennis's face. God seems to hear a part of my prayer because just as I'm going past the parking lot I see our rival team all sat on a truck. I smirked counting them with my eyes. Seven. I can take them.

"Sammy?" Elijah calls my name questioning, as he watched me smirk at the truck of big guys.

I groan picking up a fresh pebble from the ground. "What don't you understand in Fuck off ?" I don't hear anything he says as I throw the pebble at a guy on the truck.

"Hey los--" my smirk widens when I see its the same guy from the field. "How's the head, chump?"

He glares, talks to his friends and soon three of them are heading to me. Three to one, how fair.  I drop my bag and sooner than later a punch is thrown my way. I dodge and soon there's a cool fight going on. Two guys hold me down and one is coming to kick my guts out. I prepare myself to kick his jaw out of position but it doesn't get to that because somebody knocks the guy out from behind.

This somebody turns out to be Elijah and we don't get to hold eye contact for much because the gorillas attacked again. Elijah turns out to be a good team mate and we're already winning the fight but a whistle interrupts.

"What's going on there, you idiots!" Coach yelled marching steadily to the parking lot.

"Come on." I call grabbing Elijah's hand and running out of school. We were lucky to escape unnoticed.

"Wow! That was amazing!" Elijah exclaimed on our way home, walking. We've forgotten his car.

I chuckled running a hand through my hair. I feel better, freer. "Who knew you could handle your own weight?"

He shoved me playfully. "Idiot. I told you didn't I?"

I'm laughing but then my eye catches sight of his bloodied lip and I frowned. "You should have stayed away. Like I said."

In a flash he's right beside me again and he is holding my hand in his. "Don't even start. I'm never leaving your side you idiot. Even if you go all Hulk and start destroying everything because of all that rage, I still won't leave. If this night has taught me anything, its; Never Leave Sammy. Who knows what your temper can be getting you into next."

I reach up with my free hand wiping away some of the blood that the rain didn't wipe. "Then be prepared for more or this."

I showed my finger to him and before I could say blood, he had my finger between his teeth, his tongue swiping over it. I gaped at him.

"As long as you're there to wipe the blood away, I'm cool." He says looking at me the way he probably looks at girls or pizza, right before devouring it.

I chuckled trying to mask the weird feeling bubbling inside my chest and his weird look. "Freak."

He smiled, "Anything for you Sammy."

"Weirdo."

We kept on talking, I throwing names at him and he being sappy. I'm happy he's here. Although I've never held someone's hand while walking in the rain, I can boldly say that the feeling is awesome.
