To Love Him | ✔
Sammy Walcott
I threw my bag down and was sprinting upstairs, taking it two at a time. I was beyond furious and my mum's loud cries, only fueled me more.
I made it to my mum's room faster than usual and kicked the door open, thankfully it wasn't locked. The sight before me had my blood boiling and I just saw red.
Dennis was straddling my mother, her clothes thrown everywhere. Her legs were kicking behind and on her face were fresh bright red hand prints. He was holding her by the neck, hitting her down to the floor.
"Get off my mother!" I yelled raising him up by the shirt and throwing him as far from her as IÂ could. My eyes settled on her and she was far more worst than I deduced. Far more worst.
Dennis laughter echoed through the room as he struggled to get on his feet. "Little Sammy here again to save Mommy."
I glared at him, my eyes stung with tears. "How dare you?! How dare you touch my mother again?!"
His dropped down to my near lifeless mother, "Well she was being a big bad bitch, I had no choi--"
I didn't let him finish as my right fist connected with his face sending him back to the ground. He spit out blood before laughing maniacally again.
"Haven't anyone ever told you to mind your business, eh Sammy boy?"
"My mother, my business." I sneered.
"Too bad." He struggled to his feet, "Your mother is a bitch, if she could only be loyal, like the sl--"
I didn't let him finish as I punched him again, twice. He didn't fall this time but when his face turned back to me, he had a glare on and a black eye.
"Don't mess with me Sammy boy, I'm playing nice."
"Playing nice?" I asked moving around, then laughed dryly. "You're a monster. Prison bars are too good for you, you deserve a painful death."
"Be careful what you say Sammy boy, someone might be listening and be ever ready to grant you what you've wished on another." He spat out before coming at me with a punch but I was ready.
I dodged Dennis's punch and dived into him, throwing us both to the floor. He was surprised and I managed to deal more two deathly punch unto him. He pushed me off and stood to his feet but I was ever ready and before he could think of what to do next, I was already raining blows on him. I'm better, I'm so much more better and he wasn't expecting this. I pushed him and he crashed into something that broke down immediately.
I was about to go home on him, when my mum stirred and coughed, regaining consciousness. I turned to her sharply, worry clutching at the depths of my heart. Unfortunately, my care only served as an advantage because next thing I knew, something hit me hard on the head making me crumble to the ground.
"There," Dennis voice rang through my head, low like a whisper. "Stay down, where you fucking belong."
The last thing I heard was the door closing shut and after that my eyes shut close.
--*--*--
Each hiss was just like a knife squeezing it way slowly into my body.
"Stay still mum, I'm almost done." I said, slowing applying medication on the cuts on her arm.
"Sammy, you're injured." Mum muttered weakly reaching up to touch the side of my head.
I moved away from her touch. "I'm fine." Not. My head ached badly, like l was going to return back to the world of unconsciousness anytime soon.
"But Sammy, it ble--"
"I said, I'm fine." I repeating glaring at my mum. She flinch, looking away. I sighed and continued my medication. Then she coughed and vomited blood into the bowl beside her. This is the second time she's vomiting blood. I dropped the first aid frustratedly.
"Maybe you should just go to a hospital."
She started shaking her head refusing my offer. "No, no. I can't do that Sammy, how on earth will I explain what happened?"
"Your lunatic husband beat you up. I don't see what's hard in saying this." I told her, being an inconsiderate ass. She couldn't tell, just the same way I couldn't.
Fear.
Mum didn't reply and when she threw up again. I was scared, not of Dennis but for her life. She's all I have.
"We're going to the hospital." I said standing up.
"No."
"We're going to the hospital!"
"No."
"WHY DON'T YOU EVER LISTEN TO ME!" I yelled at the top of my voice, dragging at hair as tears rolled down my eyes.
Mum burst out crying immediately, hiding her face with her good hand.
"Fuck it! Fuck it! Fuck it!" I yelled again kicking everything in sight, adding to the mess. This house is the exact replica of my life. With one last look at my mum, I stormed upstairs to my room.
I don't know how long I stayed up in my room. Not sleeping, just thinking. Trying to sort my messy mind and cooking up possible solutions to my many problems. I just lied down, stretched on my bed, staring at the ceiling. I think I've overdosed on Aspirin, not sure.
When I finally got off my bed, the sky was thick in darkness. I took a calming warm bath and put on black shorts with a plain T-shirt. Just when I was looking for another plain jacket to put onâ my door opened up.
I sighed when I saw Elijah enter and close the door behind him. No, not the right time at all.
"Phew that wasn't so hard." Elijah breathed. "What happened, the living room is all-- hey are we going out?"
"No, I'm going out." I corrected. "Sorry but we can't met again tonight, something came up."
"What came up?" Elijah asked warily relaxing on the wall. "And where are going by this time of the night?"
"None of your business." I didn't mean to sound rude but that was the only way I knew how to answer him. I couldn't tell him about Dennis- not yet - and I definitely couldn't tell him about my destination.
"Sammy--"
"Please Elijah," I started cutting him off as I shrugged on a leather jacket. "I'm sorry you had to come but I really have to go somewhere. I can't say where and I can't have company."
He sighed, "You'll be fine?"
"Yea." I answered although I wasn't completely sure. This is all my fault, this previous nights Elijah usually snuck in when mum had already gone to bed and we would end up spending the night together. I forgot to cancel and now he's here, needing answers I can't give.
He reached out and kissed me. I didn't have it in me to kiss back. I'm lying to him. There's nowhere in hell I'm going to be fine after tonight. Whether my plan goes well or not.
When he broke the kiss, he looked at me with a pained expression. I managed a smile. "Don't wait up. Don't miss me too much and please, don't you dare have wet dreams about me."
He chuckled but it was the usual Elijah chuckle, it was rather dry. Without saying another word I left the room, leaving Elijah inside. Then I ran out and soon I found myself walking around the cold streets. I knew exactly where I was going, although it has been quite a while since I went there. I haven't gone since I scored a job with the moving company.
Money brought me there. Money made me know that place. Money was the only reason why I went there but now I wasn't going there for money. Not at all. After many curves, silent dark narrow streets and bends. Jumping through a drainage pipeâ clean, thankfully. I arrived at the Arena.
This is where the bad guys meet up to do stuff. To engage in entertainment or work. I'm here, so I guess I'm among the bad guys. My eyes scanned the place, filtering through all the big, scrawny, muscular and thin guys around here. Almost everyone was wearing black and smoking. I sighed in relief when I saw him.
Although nobody owned the Arena, everybody knew that a boat needed a captain and though unspoken, everyone knew very that Vittorio St Miguel owned this place. Even the name says so and when you take a look at him, you'd know that even his face says so. Half the guys here reported to and worked for him.
I'm not certain if he runs a mafia or not but talks like that followed him around. He rarely came here but I knew he'd be here today. Whether he runs a Mafia or not concerns me not. What concerns me however was Dennis.
Time to get rid of a bug.
