57. Spy Thriller Drama

“24 Episodes, spy thriller drama.”

Qi Le An quickly searched his memory to see whether there was a great spy thriller drama when he was seventeen years old.

However, Qi Le An couldn’t recall anything except for a drama called The Disguiser, but that drama was on TV years later.

“I don’t think it’s a good plan,” Chen Shan said tactfully.

Yin Yan smiled, he was not surprised by Chen Shan’s words.

“Which production company is it? “Can I read the script first?” Qi Le An thought for a moment and said to Yin Yan.

He didn’t hurry to reject Yin Yan’s suggestion, for he had faith in Yin Yan and no one would know whether it was going to be a good show or not without reading the script first.

Yin Yan was a bit impressed by Qi Le An’s words. He wasn’t sure about Wei Chang Feng’s decision, every single artist in Gale was selected and signed Yin Yan. He didn’t think that Qi Le An was particularly outstanding. And on top of that, he had to pay a large amount of money to Glory to sign Qi Le An, so he wasn’t exactly stoked about signing Qi Le An.

However, Qi Le An was someone Wei Chang Feng wanted, so he had no other option but to sign him. And he had been thinking about Qi Le An’s career planning since he accepted the fact that he had to sign Qi Le An.

He also preferred the second plan. After all, the first plan was a bit boring. And he was never a fan of the beaten track.

But people always fear change and he was ready to hear Qi Le An rejecting to work with an unknown production company. To his surprise, Qi Le An listened to him carefully and now he was asking to read the script before he made the decision.

Now Yin Yan seemed to know why Wei Chang Feng valued Qi Le An so much. He was so young, yet he knew what he wanted for his career, that was not easy. This child was destined for greatness.

What Yin Yan didn’t know was that Wei Chang Feng valued Qi Le An for who Qi Le An was, not for the potential economic benefit he could bring for Gale.

“I’ll contact the production company soon, it’s called Sunshine Era.”

Qi Le An was shocked when he heard the name of the production company. This company was indeed a small company that no one had heard of back in 2012, but it would be the hottest film and television company within a couple of years.

‘Wait, The Disguiser is produced by that company!’ Qi Le An exclaimed in his heart.

That was such a nice surprise, he did not expect Yin Yan to be this visionary!

“I think I can definitely read the script first,” Qi Le An managed to maintain calm and collected and said, “And we can discuss further after I read the script.”

Chen Shan looked at Qi Le An like he were a madman. Chen Shan knew the second plan was original and out of the box. But boldness wasn’t always rewarded in the industry they were in, he preferred the first plan.

After all, if the ratings of Spy Thriller Drama weren’t as great as Yin Yan had described, it would be too late for Qi Le An to regret it.

However, Chen Shan didn’t want to make a scene in front of Yin Yan, he decided to talk to Qi Le An in detail after they got back home.

Yin Yin nodded in approval and said, “I’ll contact them soon, I have read the script through a friend, now I will contact the company and let them know we are interested in an official way. Hmm, wait for a second, are you free the day after tomorrow? Would you like to meet them for dinner or something?”

Since he knew it was Sunshine Era, Qi Le An would make time for that. He nodded and said, “I will be free.”

Yin Yan was very satisfied, so he immediately contacted Sunshine Era and made an appointment with them. Qi Le An appreciated how resolute his new boss was, he thought Yin Yan and his Wei Sama made a great team.

After leaving Gale studio, Chen Shan seriously analyzed the situation for Qi Le An and he said it bluntly that he didn’t like the second plan. However, Chen Shan encouraged Qi Le An to have dinner with Yin Yan and Sunshine Era, he knew how important networking was.

Chen Shan’s analysis was reasonable and Qi Le An nodded, “We will go with the second plan if the script is great, and we will go with the first plan if otherwise.”

Chen Shan smiled, he agreed with Qi Le An.

Yin Yan called Qi Le An that night, he told Qi Le An to meet him at his house in the afternoon the next day, because it was a personal friend who was working in Sunshine Era had recommended the script to him.

Chen Shan drove Qi Le An to Yin Yan’s house and left reluctantly. Qi Le An went upstairs after saying goodbye to Chen Shan.

Yin Yan loved his wife dearly. A few years ago, when his mother-in-law passed away, his father-in-law got so depressed. His wife suggested taking the poor father home to better take care of him, Yin Yan agreed readily. But the father-in-law did not want to leave the home that he had been residing for a lifetime. Therefore, Yin Yan and his wife moved in with their son who was in middle school.

Yin Yan’s father-in-law’s house was very old, but the layout of the house was very spacious, and it was not too cramped for three generations to live together.

Qi Le An knocked on Yin Yan’s door with a present he selected carefully in hand.

Yin Yan answered the door promptly, and Qi Le An was surprised to see Yin Yan in casual wear, and on top of that, Yin Yan was wearing an apron!

“An, come in, come in, welcome!” Yin Yan showed a broad smile, “Li Jian Jun, my friend who is working at Sunshine Era will be here soon.”

Qi Le An walked in and sat on the sofa made of rosewood.  Qi Le An stroked the rosewood gently, he loved the rich texture of the beautiful timber.

Yin Yin poured a glass of water for Qi Le An and went back to the kitchen.

This was the first time Qi Le An had met such a casual host. He awkwardly paced in the house and appreciated the décor.

After 10 minutes of pacing around, Yin Yan finally came out of the kitchen. He undid his apron and hung it on the hanger. He explained to Qi Le An, “My wife is now on holiday with my father-in-law and our son, I just cooked a few dishes for you and Li Jian Jun.”

Qi Le An was surprised. Yin Yan was a successful businessman, he didn’t expect this wealthy man to be this down-to-earth.

“Li Jian Jun is my father’s student. Just call him Uncle Li, no need to get nervous” Yin Yin comforted Qi Le An.

Qi Le An was was just a few years older than Yin Yan’s son. So people couldn’t help but be nice to him.

After a few minutes, there was a knock on the door. Yin Yan opened the door and warmly welcomed Li Jian Jun in.

Li Jian Jun and Yin Yan were about the same age, so they were really close. Yin introduced Qi Le An to Li Jian Jun, “Let me introduce a new friend to you, this is the new artist I just signed, do you know him?”

Yin Yin was tall and fit, while Li Jian Jun was short and skinny. They looked nothing alike.

“Qi Le An, right?” Li Jian Jun laughed, “I didn’t expect you to sign him. Le An, you have no future with this person. Why don’t you join my company?”

Qi Le An didn’t expect Yin Yan and Li Jian Jun to be this close and they felt comfortable joking about poaching. Yin Yin smiled and slapped Li Jian Jun on the shoulder. “You’re a scriptwriter. Don’t steal my artist from me!”

Li Jian Jun laughed. Obviously, it was just a joke.

The three of them washed hands and took seats by the dining table. Yin Yan served some hors d’oeuver first, Li Jian Jun asked Qi Le An, “How old are you?”

Qi Le An said, “I’m 17 this year.”

Li Jian Jun glanced at Qi Le An in astonishment and said, “I know you are young, but I didn’t know you are this young, you are still a minor. I need to remind Old Yin to not serve you any alcohol.”

Yin Yan, who just came out of the kitchen, had heard this sentence and laughed, “I didn’t even prepare alcohol for him, okay?”

With that, he took a big glass and poured Qi Le An a glass of orange juice.

For close friends like Yin Yan and Li Jian Jun, of course, they would have a few drinks and shoot the breeze. Middle-aged men, tad a lot to say when they are with old friends.

Qi Le An listened to them talking about life, about family, especially about the kids. Yin Yan complained that his son failed in chemistry, Li Jian Jun complained that his son was a troublemaker at school and the teacher had called him twice for that already.

“An is just a few years older than my son, but look at An, what a gentleman! ” Exclaimed Yin Yan.

Qi Le An was stunned for a moment and then he said, “I’m going to be honest here, I didn’t even attend high school, so I have no idea how many subjects I will fail… …”

Qi Le An meant to say it in a funny way, but the part about he never had a chance to attend high school was so sad that Li Jian Jun couldn’t bear it. The boy was just a few years older than his own child. He should be reading books at school and enjoying his parents’ love and attention, but he was sold to Glory by his Uncle a,and since that he had been on his own.

“Old Yin, what’s your plan for An?” Li Jian Jun asked.

“Education,” said Yin Yan, “But that doesn’t mean he is gonna give up his career. Don’t you have a new drama in hand now? Let’s keep the goodies within the family, let’s save An a role, what do you say about that, Old Li?”

Li Jian Jun said, “Hold on a second, going to school for education, leaving a role for him, what are you talking about? An can’t go to school if I don’t leave a role for him?”

Yin Yin raised an eyebrow and said, “Old Li, think about it, I need to look for other roles for him if you don’t show us support, you know how long it takes to find the right script, the right director, the right crew, probably An won’t be able to go to school due to that. So long story short, you are responsible for this.”

Qi Le An was a little shocked by how cheeky Yin Yan was, but Li Jian Jun was obviously used to that He shook his head with a smile, “I know you too well, you always have a ready tongue. But the thing is have you asked An, what does he think about this?”

Yin Yan and Li Jian Jun turned their gazes to Qi Le An. Yin Yan said, “Just feel free to let us know your concerns, just anything!”

So Qi Le An said, “Of course I am flattered, but may I ask what story it is? I don’t want to let you down by biting more than I can chew.”

Li Jian Jun nodded after hearing this, he appreciated how smart Qi Le An was when he expressed his opinion. “Alright, An, can I have your email address, I’ll send you the outline.”

Qi Le An felt so grateful that Li Jian Jun was willing to give him a chance.

Yin Yan and Li Jian Jun were in such a good mood that they didn’t call it a day until 8, and they were both a bit drunk a lot. Qi Le An called Chen Shan and the two drove Li Jian Jun home together. Then they returned to Qi Le An’s residence.

Chen Shan was interested in how the talk went

Qi Le An turned on the computer and logged on to his mail. “Li Jian Jun said that he would send me the story, but I’m not sure whether I will get it tonight or not, you have seen how drunk he was.”

As he said this, his computer made two sounds.
