Chapter 28
Rebirth from the Ashes
At noon, Su Mushiâs manager received the script.
Coincidentally, the manager was free and read through it. He was impressed by the plot and sent it to the Su family immediately.
Su Mushi was engrossed in the script and skipped dinner as a result. After he read it, he rushed out of his room and cried, âMom, Dad, I want to take this series up!â
Su Yi had just come home and was watching a TV show with Li Jingran and Su Ruowan. âWhy are you so excited? You should see your own face.â
âDad, donât scold him.â Su Ruowan chirped and grinned. âThe script must be excellent if my third elder brother is taking it so seriously.â
Su Mushi explained, âMom, Dad, look at the script. Itâs a large-scale production and the male and female leads are likable. Even the supporting characters are interesting and not one-dimensional. The plot is full of twists and turns too. I have a feeling that it will be a success.â
Su Ruowan flipped through the script and her eyes glimmered with enthusiasm. âBrother, isnât this âThe Favored Advisor of the Golden Ageâ? Itâs going to be adapted into a TV series? I love this novel and it made me cry so much last time.â
Li Jingran listened and looked through the script. âDear, find out about this seriesâ investors, director, screenwriter and actors.â
Soon enough, Su Yi found the answers. âThe director isnât confirmed yet, and the investment is less than five million, so itâs impossible to get a renowned director with that budget. Itâs a low-budget web series after all and wonât be much of a success.â
Su Mushi refused to give in. âDad, I have a feeling that itâll be a hit. Why donât we invest in this series? Iâll be the male lead.â
âYour parents came from the industry and have more experience than you, so of course, I can tell whether this series will be a hit or not. Dream on if you think that it will achieve some small measure of success. Investing in it will just be a waste of money.â Su Yi let out a cold laugh and did not bother to read the script.
âMushi, I also find it hard to believe that five million will be able to produce something, even though this series claims to be a big-budget production. Itâs not even enough to cover a C-list actorâs salary. Do you think it can be a hit if the costumes, make-up and props are badly done?â Li Jingran lowered the script and chuckled.
Everybody dreamed of being famous, but how many people in showbiz were able to make it?
It was simply unthinkable for a low-budget TV series, produced by a small production team, to become a hit.
âI agree with Mom and Dad,â Su Ruowan added, âThis lousy production is no match for someone of your status!â
Su Mushi still thought it was a shame to give up on it. âI still think that this series will blow up.â
Su Ruowan covered her mouth and laughed. âMy dear brother, every time you see a script that you fancy, you think itâll be a hit. Luckily, our parents are smart and rejected them. Those shows ended up as flops.â
Su Yi smirked. âMushi, you have to accept the facts and face reality instead of being influenced by your own emotions. My last name isnât Su if this series does blow up!â
âA script with such a large scale is challenging for most filmmakers. You wonât get the desired results if you donât recruit the best production teams in showbiz.â Li Jingran eyed her son. âYou ought to stay focused and get ready for your Uncle Chenâs next show!â
After listening to his family membersâ analysis, Su Mushi calmed down and was no longer as excited as before.
The previous scripts that he presumed would be successful ended up as total flops.
His parents were legends in show business and had superb judgment in scripts. The shows that they predicted would be unsuccessful actually flopped.
He glanced at the script again. The enthusiasm and eagerness he experienced earlier were now replaced by disgust, and he tossed the script into the dustbin.
