Across the Hall (G.N.D. Sequel)
Evan's POV:
"Pst." Lexi's head pops into my classroom. "Do you have plans tonight?"
I shake my head, "no, just picking up the kids and-"
"Actually, you're not. I'll pick them up. Is that okay?" She asks.
I furrow my brows, "I mean... I guess? Why?"
She smirks, "don't worry about the reason."
"Lexi... please don't start with the secret shit again." I beg, hating the feeling of being out of the loop.
She laughs, "I promise it's nothing bad. Just... go with it. You can go home and take a bath or something. Have some wine. Relax."
I cut my eyes at her, "relaxation is not an option when you have a girlfriend sneaking around with your children."
Her eyes widen, "oh, I'm an official girlfriend now?"
"Oh, shut up. You're officially annoying." My eyes roll and I fight a smile.
"Glad we have that established. I'll see you at like... six?" She says.
I nod and she starts to walk away, but I have something else on my mind. "Wait- Lex."
"Yes ma'am?"
I cut my eyes at her hard and she grins ear-to-ear. "I wanna talk to you. Come see me when you get a sec."
She nods and off she goes, preparing to teach her next class.
Of course, Lexi never comes back to talk to me. I had a feeling she wouldn't for the sole reason of she hates the phase "I want to talk." But I'll be able to corner her tonight, so no worries.
After I leave work I head home. The house is silent, which is weird after having it filled with rambunctious kids all week. I take Lexi's suggestion and try to relax. I slide into a pair of sweats that think actually belong to Lexi, and a tank.
I park myself on the couch and turn on a cheesy TV drama with poor acting, letting my mind unwind from the stress of the week.
This has been one of the most emotionally trying weeks I've had since the divorce. From the hearing, to Scott being arrested, to kicking Lexi out like a fool, and then coming back to being great again- it's been a lot.
I couldn't be any happier with the way things played out though. Even if I was (still am) upset that Lexi made such a grand gesture (even if I wasn't meant to find out), I'm glad things happened the way they did.
I watch my movie with my feet propped up on the couch, but in the back of my mind I can't help but wonder what the kids and Lexi are doing. I know she'll keep them safe, but I don't know why it has to be a secret!
As promised, Lexi arrives home around six.
"Mama!" Mason yells as he makes his entry.
"Well hello." I giggle, definitely awake and aware now if I wasn't before. "Where have you guys been?" I ask.
"Mason..." Lexi growls.
Mason zips his lips and I glare at him. "What?! You can't not tell me." I laugh.
"It's sensitive information. On a need-to-know basis, and you aren't on that list." Lexi laughs, walking over and pecking my lips.
"How the heck do I not make the list?" I question. "I am in charge here."
"Not what you told me last night." Lexi whispers, the kids not able to hear it.
My eyes widen and I clear my throat, "okay. That's it. I'm getting this information out of one of you!" I tease, starting to stand up.
The three of them scatter, running and squealing.
Once I'm at eye-level with Lexi, I walk her backwards and put her against the wall. "Now I'm in charge." I put her hands above her head and kiss her lips hard.
"Mm-" Lexi wiggles under the pressure of my body.
I release her and walk away quickly, going to play with my children.
* * *
Lexi convinces the kids to go to sleep around ten, and I still have no idea where the four of them went earlier. It's driving me insane.
She comes to the bedroom and sees me perched on the bed, waiting. I removed the baggy sweats, hoping that'll help me convince her to spill.
"You can take off as many articles of clothing as you want, but I am not telling you." She immediately shuts it down and I roll my eyes.
"Why not?!" I whine.
She laughs and pushes the door shut, "because it's-"
"Need to know? Yeah, you said that already and I didn't like that answer. Come up with a new one." I urge her.
She rolls her eyes and comes over to me, touching my hair and looking me in my eye. "I'd rather not."
I push her away from me, annoyed. "Fine. Be a bitch about it then." I groan, not really meaning it.
Lexi's jaw drops. "Ouch!"
I smirk, "please just.... tell me. If you do I'll...." I pause, thinking.
She pulls her t-shirt off, wearing only a sports bra and shorts to bed.
"I'll top. Please?" I beg her.
She kisses me slowly, "Ev?"
"Yeah, baby?"
"You say that as if I don't enjoy the hell out of watching you moan and squirm all the time." She laughs.
Once again, I get annoyed and shove her away. "You know what? Don't tell me. I'm going to bed." I frown.
She sighs, "okay, I hadn't planned to tell you. Goodnight. I love you."
* * *
I was fully expecting Lexi to break last night and confess everything, but she didn't budge... so I didn't sleep with her. She actually let me go to sleep (bitter as ever) and I just woke up, still clueless. And it gets better- she isn't even in bed with me.
"Happy Saturday." I mutter to myself, kicking the covers off and sliding a hoodie on. I glide down the hall towards the kitchen, and I hear the tv on... but I see no one watching.
"Hello?" I call out, wondering if they all left.
I hear the softest giggle followed by a "shh" from the kitchen, so I go that way. When I turn the corner I am surprised - to say the very least.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" The kids yell while Lexi pulls the string on a confetti popper.
My jaw falls open and I have no response. I was not expecting this. I didn't even think Lexi would find out it's my birthday since I don't make a huge deal out of it.
"Oh my god..." I groan, now having confetti littered across my kitchen and in my hair. The kids run to me, wrapping me in hugs and well-wishes. I glance at Lexi and shake my head slowly, not believing her.
"Did you really think I wouldn't find out?" She asks, walking closer.
My head continues to shake, "you're sneaky." She kisses my lips quickly and I lay my hand against her cheek. I can't believe she went through the trouble of doing all this. "Which one of you three opened your mouth?!" I turn my attention to the kids.
All three of them look at one another and shake their heads, not wanting to take the blame.
"We'll just say I looked at your driver's license." Lexi jokes, now wrapping me in a proper hug.
I rest my chin on her shoulder and see a stack of nearly overcooked pancakes with a candle in them and a cup of coffee steaming on the counter. "You cooked?"
She pulls away and scrunches her face, "I made an attempt. Well, we made an attempt." Lex explains, looking to the girls and Mason. "The coffee was all Mason though."
I laugh and walk over, grabbing the mug and sipping it carefully. I nod and glance at Mason, "thank you, baby. It's perfect."
Mason grins wide and runs to the table, "can we eat them now, Lexi?!"
Lexi nods and grabs my plate, carrying it over to the table as well. The five of us sit down and eat, and I make sure to give Lexi some hell for her cooking.
"Well, it's edible..." I sigh.
She drops her fork and shoots me a glare, "really? I tried my best, okay?" She whines.
I giggle and shove another bite into my mouth, "I'm just messing with you! They're good, babe." I assure her.
We wrap up breakfast and I start to clean, but Lexi abruptly ends that. "No. You go take a bath. I am going to clean this up and get the kids ready. Then we're gonna find something fun to do today."
"Lex, we don't have to-"
She kisses me, "shh. Speak less. Just go take a bath and relax."
I sigh and nod my head, following her orders.
After soaking for about fifteen or twenty minutes, a soft knock on the bathroom door grabs my attention. "It's open." I say, knowing it's Lexi.
She looks down at me and grins while I pull my hand through the water, stirring the bubbles around.
"Relaxed yet?" She inquires.
I nod, "super." Her soft smile makes my heart beat faster. "I can't believe you actually did that."
Her brows furrow, "did what? Made you a crappy breakfast and got confetti in your hair?" She laughs, pulling a piece from my bun.
I shake my head and she kneels beside the tub. "Breakfast was perfect, baby. I just- I don't know what I did to make you love me so much."
She winks at me, "your existence is enough. You didn't have to do anything."
My eyes roll, "is this what all the secrecy was about last night?"
She stands and paces, giving herself away. "Maybe. It's still early though, so maybe not."
"Lex..."
"I'm gonna go get the kids ready!" She blurts before making her escape.
Lexi's POV:
"Mas! Come on!" I yell to the kid who is running around having the time of his life at the little fall festival that we came to.
He runs over and jumps on me, soliciting a reprimand from Evan. "Mason, stop."
"Look, climb on my back." I offer, kneeling down. He pants and climbs on my back, happy with getting a piggyback ride.
I look his mom up and down, and she shakes her head. I wink at her and playfully smack her ass. "Loosen up."
She shoots me a glare and I giggle, holding on tight to Mason. "Oh no... we better run." I tease, only doing it to bug Evan.
I take off with the boy clinging to my back and Evan eventually meets us at the car.
"You two are trouble." Evan groans, talking about Mason and I's constant mischief as the kids climb into the backseat.
I close the door and step close enough to put my hand on her waist, "the only thing that's causing trouble here is your ass in those jeans."
"Lexi!" She hisses, smirking.
I grin and pull her door open for her, "in you go..." Her eyes roll but she climbs in and we head to a restaurant for lunch.
I thought about getting a sitter or something and making the day solely about her, but I know that she's happiest when she's surrounded by her kids. So a nice family day it is. And it seems to be going pretty well so far because the smile hasn't left her face even once. That was my main goal for the day, honestly.
Over lunch, we all chat (though most of the conversations revolve around the kids and topics of their choice).
"Lexi, is your new house ready to live in yet?" Grace questions. It amazes me how much information these kids rememberer.
I push my food around my plate and leave my eyes down for a few seconds. I still haven't really addressed the situation with Evan even though she asked me to move in.
"Not quite." I lie, knowing that I could be moving boxes in right now if I wanted. "Maybe it'll all get worked out soon though."
I told myself I was not going to be that person who moves in with their girl just after a month or two of 'dating.' I still don't want to be that person, but I want Evan. I want the kids. I want this life so badly.
"Finish up, Grace." Evan instructs, pulling her daughter's attention away from me.
I glance up at Evan and she raises her brows, silently asking if I am alright.
I wink at her and the waiter comes over, and a snatch the check before Evan can even think about it.
"What? No, I'll pay for-"
"I'll tip you double whatever she would. Take it." I say to the guy.
Evan glares at me hard but he walks away without hesitation.
"You're working on getting on my bad side." She tells me.
"Oof, that's scary." I joke with her.
* * *
We all walk into the house, filling it with noise and chaos immediately.
"Everyone chill out... watch a movie or something." Evan says as the kids scatter. "You..." she growls, looking at me, "need to come with me."
I raise my brows, but she doesn't give me time to ask questions. She pulls me away by my shirt and shuts the door to the bedroom.
"What are you doing?!" I laugh.
"I want you." She says, grabbing my shirt collar and pushing me against the wall.
I'm caught off guard by the kiss, which is the only reason I even let her pin me against the wall.
I grab her hips and pull her against me forcefully, and I feel her grin under my lips.
"What are you grinning about?" I whisper to her, my lips brushing her jaw.
She pulls her hands down the sides of my face and bites her lip, "nothing."
Evan kisses me again, her tongue slipping right in between my lips. While she kisses me I slap her ass and pull her against me again, and she giggles.
"I told you.... trouble." I whisper.
She looks over my face with those damn eyes- ugh. "Lexi." She mutters my name in a way that makes my heart stop.
"Yes?"
"I need you right now." She informs, kissing my lips over and over again.
I laugh quietly, "hey-" between the kisses I'm able to mutter a few words. "The kids are- going to bug us."
Evan shakes her head and quickly unbuttons her jeans, grabbing my hand and guiding it between her legs. "Do you feel how soaked I am? I'm not waiting. Fuck me.... right now."
My jaw nearly drops at how serious she is. It's so hot to see her wanting something so bad, especially when that something is me.
I act quickly and swap positions with Evan. She kicks off her shoes and I peel the denim from her legs and her panties go next, my hands moving up her thighs. I kneel in front of her and put her left leg over my shoulder, burying my face in between her thighs.
She moans almost instantly and I stop, "baby... you are going to have to be quiet." I tell her, knowing the kids will most definitely hear her.
She nods and bites her lip, but wastes no time pushing my head back between her thighs.
As my tongue moves about, Evan pushes up on her right foot and her breathing is loud and uneasy. I glance up at her occasionally and she has her lip pinned, fighting hard to stay silent.
When she reaches her first orgasm, a delicate moan slides out, "Lexi-"
I drop her thigh and stand up, pushing her arms against the wall and kissing her lips harshly.
"You're fucking perfect." I whisper to her.
"Lay down." She says back to me, looking hungry for more.
I don't ask questions. I lay on the bed and Evan climbs on top of me and finds herself over my face, again fighting her moans.
Before she finishes, she climbs off and scrabbles to the closet, retrieving the toy I used on her last. "Put it on." She demands.
I raise my brows, but do as I'm told by the half-naked, extremely sexy woman. Once she's happy with my attire, she straddles me and her eyes roll back immediately. She glides her body back-and-forth like she's on a rocking chair, and I just watch her in all her sexy glory.
There is something about seeing a woman like Evan- so strong, independent, hard-shelled- in her most vulnerable moment that is unexplainably pleasing.
"Mm-" she starts to moan but stops herself and leans down, kissing me. "I fucking- love you." She says the words into my mouth and I hold her hips as she continues to move her body in the smoothest way imaginable.
Evan finally works herself up to another climax, and when she does the inevitable happens.
"Mom?!" From the other side of the door.
I look up at the blonde and she shakes her head, "she's busy right now." Evan says back, not even bothered. "I'll be out there in a few minutes!"
I grin at the response and she picks her body up and we both look down at the mess she's made.
She giggles and bites her lip, "whoops."
"You are the hottest thing." I say to her, my hand stroking her bare thigh.
She kisses me slowly, "does that count as me topping?"
We both laugh at the question, and Evan eventually climbs off of me and runs to the bathroom to clean herself up a bit. She gets re-dressed and looks at me, "do I look crazy?"
"You look like you just had sex." I laugh, wiping my hands on a towel.
"Shut up. That was just round one."
My eyes widen when she walks out of the room. Round one? Of how many?!

Evan's POV:
Hours later I kiss my kids goodnight and walk down the hall where I find Lexi sitting on the bed. She looks like she is thinking hard about something, which scares me.
"What's the matter?" I ask, worried.
Lex shakes her head, "nothing, Ev. Why would there be?"
"If you think any harder your head might explode." I giggle. Her face remains unchanged, and it gives me even more reason for concern. "You seem off. What is it?" I ask her, laying down beside her and pushing my hand around on her back.
I have a feeling I know what it is, but I need her to say it.
"Ev, look-"
"Is this about you not wanting to move in? Lexi-" I cut her off before she can even begin to speak.
She can't help but let out a nervous laugh, "it's not that, Ev."
I scrunch my face and sigh quietly, "well then talk to me!"
"You know I love you, right?" She asks.
"This sounds like the start of you dumping me. I'd believe you a little more if you'd just spit out whatever it is that you're not saying." I say, pulling me fingers over her jaw while gazing up at her.
Lexi closes her eyes and pulls her hand across my clothes stomach. I swear I can feel the nerves running from her body to mine- so whatever she's about to say is clearly hard for her.
"I- Ev, you're not exactly the easiest person to talk to when it comes to things like this." She admits.
I don't know if I should take offense or not. "Things like what?! You've never had a problem talking to me before." I point out, having absolutely no idea where this conversation is headed... or if I'm going to like it.
Lexi's head bobs up and down, "yeah, but I know you don't like any sort of extreme gestures..."
My eyebrows furrow hard. "You talking to me about something is a big gesture? Damn, we are on two totally different pages."
"No- ugh. Talking isn't the gesture. This is." Lexi sighs, assembling all the courage in her body and pulling a ring out of her coat pocket.
She holds it up in front of me and speaks: "I didn't really know how to go about this. You said no more grand gestures, so just take this as a subtle suggestion that I would very much like it if you spent the rest of your life with me."
My eyes grow twice in size and I freeze up. I never freeze up... not like this. My world starts spinning right before my eyes and I can't even get a word to come out.
I thought there was a higher chance of me getting dumped than this happening right now.
My eyes shift to the sizable ring to the girl's eyes multiple times. "Lexi."
She swallows hard, the nerves showing even more now. I swear I see beads of sweat forming on her head.
"Speaking might help me feel less like throwing up." She mutters to me.
The shocked expression on my face cracks and the edge of my smile shows, "are- what? Is this real?" Is the only sensible thing I can ask.
Lexi laughs nervously and glances at the rock, "I think it's real..."
I laugh, still very much in shock. "What the fuck, Lexi?" I whisper, sitting up and wrapping my arms around her neck.
I hold her body in my arms and Lexi strokes my back.
"Is that a good or a bad kind of 'what the fuck'?" I'm questioned.
I pull away from her body and kiss her lips slowly, "the good kind, you idiot."
Her true smile reappears and I looks at the ring again. I hold out my hand and Lexi's twitching hand slides it onto my finger. My head shakes from side to side, "you- I don't even know what to say."
"I'm not saying we have to get married soon or ever, really. I just know I cannot go through this life without you and the kids in it, Ev." Her words make my heart flutter.
My lip pouts and I hug Lexi again, "baby..."
She rubs my back softly and my eyes float shut, taking the moment in silently. When she pulls away I see tears in her eyes and it brings them to mine too. "Don't! We don't need to cry." I laugh, wiping her eyes before they can even start to fall. I laugh and look at my newly-ringed hand. "I really hope this means you'll move in with me now."
Her nose scrunches, "about that..." I slap her across the arm without hesitation.
"Do not play with me." I tell her.
I collect my composure a bit more and the beaming smile I've worn for most of the day returns.
"How long have you had this?" I ask, referring to the rock sitting on my hand.
"I took the kids yesterday to pick it out with me." Lexi's explanation further pulls at my heart strings.
"They knew?!"
The girl nods slowly and tears begin trailing down my cheeks against my will. "Thank you for loving them and including them the way you do, Lexi."
I can't put into words what it means to me that she loves and cares about those kids just as much as she does about me. That has easily become my favorite thing about Lexi.
"I wouldn't have it any other way. My heart and my entire future lies here with you, Mason, Ava, and Grace." She promises.
My lip pouts again and I hug her tight. "You are the best thing that has ever happened to us, Lex. This family we've built- I- I wouldn't know what to do or where to turn without you." I admit to her. "You've shown me love in a way I've never felt it before and I- thank you. Thank you for this life you're building with me."
Her lip curls and she holds out her pinky, "well... I promise to never ever leave you, or them, so you'll never have to worry about not knowing where to turn to. I will be here until the days run out."
I lock my pinky with hers and kiss her lips tenderly, "I love you so much."
Annnnd that's a wrap on Evan and Lexi!!
I hope all of you have enjoyed reading this story and these characters as much as I have. Lexi and Evan are definitely going to be very hard to say goodbye to, but whose to say they won't make another appearance in the future?!
I've seen the numerous requests for more chapters or a third book. I love that you all love this story, but I don't want to drag something out when I feel it's finished. That's when things get boring! So, I doubt I'll make an entire new book (anytime soon), but in the coming months I may add additional chapters here as an epilogue or "bonus" chapters possibly.
I really do love and appreciate all of you who took the time to read, vote and comment on this story. It means a lot to receive the amount of love and support I do from you guys since writing stories like these is my passion.
With all that being said: YES, I am going to continue to write. I have plenty of other drafts/ideas that I'll be focusing on now- so I'll start publishing a new GxG story sooner rather than later.
I'm always open to hear your ideas and feedback, so comment or message me and let me know what types of gxg stories you'd like to see the most!
I'll see you all very soon. Thank you x1,000,000 for the love.
