Chapter 1413
Married at First Sight
Since Mrs. Lewis came all the way and said such words, Duncan could not stay any longer.
Serenity personally escorted Mrs. Lewis out of the ward.
She stood at the door of the ward and watched Mrs. Lewis and Duncan walk away.
After a long time, she sighed and turned back in with Zachary. She looked at her sleeping sister with worry.
Zachary held her shoulder and comforted her in a low voice, âSeren, everything will be fine. We donât have to worry too much.â
As long as Duncan realized his feelings, Zachary believed that he could convince his parents to let him be together with Liberty.
âBesides, your sister isnât interested in Duncan in that way. Duncan liking your sister is his. business, and thereâs no guarantee that your sister will accept him. Letâs see how it goes for now.â
Serenity leaned on his shoulder and said softly, âPutting aside Mr. Lewisâs status, heâs a good man. If my sister wants to remarry, Iâm very much in favor of them getting together, not because of Mr. Lewisâs status but his sense of responsibility.â
Duncan and Hank were two different kinds of people.
âYouâre right, but itâs still too early to talk about that. Liberty hasnât even thought of remarrying.â
Now, Serenity just wanted her sister to get better. There was no need to rush emotional matters.
Although Mrs. Lewis took her youngest son out of the hospital, she did not let him drive. The mother and son rode in the same car back home while Duncanâs car was driven by his bodyguard.
Her expression was dark along the way.
She looked at Duncan and saw his calm expression. It was as if he would be unfazed even if the sky were to fall. Mrs. Lewis grew angry at that face.
She could not help but slap Duncanâs arm.
Duncan looked at his mother in dismay upon being hit and asked in confusion, âWhy did you hit me, Mom? Were you trying to hit a large mosquito on my arm?â
âWhatâs wrong with you? You never bat an eye on any of the ladies in our circle, but you took al fancy to a divorcee like Liberty instead! Putting aside the fact that she has a son, even if she hasnât married before, I still wonât accept her as my daughterâinâlaw.â
In the end, her greatest fear came true.
The problem lay with her son.
Liberty had no interest in Duncan.
Mrs. Lewis was furious and wanted to scold someone. She wanted to do something to Liberty, but Liberty could not be blamed for this matter. No matter how proud she was, she was a reasonable woman. Since the problem was with her son, she could only direct her anger at him.
If she went to Liberty, Liberty might even ask her to take care of her son.
Duncan said, âI think I have a good eye. Liberty is a good woman, so I took a fancy to her. Whatâs wrong with that? So what if sheâs a divorced single mother? At first, I was just in it for Sonny. That child is cute and clever, just like meâ¦â
His mother smacked him again before he could finish his sentence.
Mrs. Lewis yelled, âWhereâs your shame? Do you even feel shameful? Sonnyâs last name is Brown.
How could Sonny Brown be just like you? Bah, youâre shameless! If he really was your flesh and blood, for the sake of my grandson, Iâd accept Liberty no matter how much I dislike her, but is Sonny yours?â
Duncan grumbled, âI just said that Sonny is smart like me. I didnât say that he was mine. I wish he was, but unfortunately, he isnât. However, itâs fine. Itâs the same if I become his stepdad. A stepdad is also a dad. If I treat him well, heâll accept me as his father.â
