Chapter 1616
Married at First Sight
âGo ahead, Mrs. Lewis.â
Mrs. Lewis looked at the beautiful appearance of Liberty who had successfully lost weight, then she praised her by saying, âLiberty, you bear a passing resemblance to Mrs. Stone when she was younger.
She was a beautiful career woman back then. Many elders wanted her to be their daughter-in-law.
âIn the end, Mr. Stone captured her heart, and she became Mrs. Stone. Now Stones.â she is the mainstay of the Old Mrs. Stone initially disapproved of her son and Audreyâs marriage. However, she could not take control of it. Her husband and son were fond of Audrey, so Old Mrs. Stone had no choice but to accept Audrey.
Anyway, the relationship between Old Mrs. Stone and Mrs. Stone was not the most pleasant.
When Stone Group got into trouble, Mrs. Stone was the one who went all out to save the company from crisis. It was only then that Old Mrs. Stone accepted Mrs. Stone wholeheartedly.
Elisa mentioned that when her mother just married into the Stone family, her grandmother made things difficult for her mother.
Liberty smiled before she said, âConsidering that Aunt Audrey and my mom are biological sisters, itâs unsurprising that they both look similar. I look like my mom, so I bear a passing resemblance to Aunt Audrey as well.â
At the mention of her mother, Mrs. Lewis recalled that Libertyâs parents had both passed away. Liberty also had many outrageous relatives in her hometown who were orphans.
âLiberty, do you like Duncan now?â
All of a sudden, Mrs. Lewis asked.
Liberty had long guessed Mrs. Lewisâs intention of asking her out.
Without the slightest hesitation, she answered frankly, âMrs. Lewis, Iâve always treated Mr. Lewis as my landlord and friend. I have no interest in him. I donât hate him, but that doesnât mean I love him.â
Mrs. Lewis stared intently at Liberty.
Having been in a wealthy family for decades, Mrs. Lewis was a good judge of character. She could tell that Liberty was telling the truth.
Libertyâs gaze was pure.
If she were lying, she would not have met Mrs. Lewisâs eyes openly. Liberty was not so crafty yet, was she?
âI trust you, Liberty.â
Mrs. Lewisâs voice became gentle.
âBut Duncan likes you. Heâs stubborn. No matter how I advise him, he wonât listen to me and continue to like you.â
Obviously, Mrs. Lewis was trying to tell Liberty that she would not accept Liberty as her daughter-in-
law.
After a moment of silence, Liberty replied, âMrs. Lewis, when Mr. Lewis confessed his love to me, I rejected him. Heâs still pursuing me, but Iâm not accepting him. His love for me isnât something that I can control.â
Indeed, there was nothing she could do about it.
She was not interested in Duncan. It was Duncanâs business to fall in love with her.
âMrs. Lewis, you can try to talk to Mr. Lewis about it. Iâm grateful for his feelings for me, but I donât plan to remarry. Whenever I think of my broken marriage, Iâll shake with fear. Now that Iâve finally gotten over it and my life is back on track, I donât want to be trapped in the tomb of love again.â
Some people analogized marriage to the tomb of love with women buried inside.
âMrs. Lewis, you can arrange for Mr. Lewis to meet and interact with other rich young ladies. As Mr.
Lewis interacted with more women, heâll realize that there are a lot more ladies out there who are better than me and suit him more.â
Those from the same circle as Mr. Lewis would match him well.
Mrs. Lewis sighed.
âLiberty, to be frank, Iâve started to worry about Duncan since he turned thirty. I arranged many blind dates for him in a year, but he didnât want to meet any of the girls. Heâs independent and obstinate. I really canât do anything about it.
âLily is my best friendâs daughter. Although sheâs not from Wiltspoon, the Harmons are considered wealthy. Lily might be slightly younger than Duncan, but theyâre well-matched. Also, both our families planned to be related by marriage.
âAs you can see, it turned out that Lily had let go of Duncan.â
While speaking, Mrs. Lewis kept moaning and sighing.
She desperately wanted to make Lily her daughter-in-law.
