Chapter 26
Married at First Sight
Meanwhile, a train of luxury sedans cruised along with one of them being a Rolls Royce. It was Zacharyâs private ride. With the convoy stopping at the side of the road, Zachary rolled down his window and looked at the scar-faced man. He asked, âWhat are you doing here, Duncan?â
âI went to get something, but I came back to a scratch on my car,â
âDid you catch the perpetrator?â
Out of impulse, Zachary asked, âDo you need my help to catch whoever vandalized your car?â
âItâs fine. I got her number. Iâll claim the damages from her after I get my car fixed. Wiltspoon is my city.
She can run but she canât hide.â
Returning to his car, Duncan Lewis started the engine and told Zachary, âIâm off.â
Without another word, Zachary wound the windows back up and drove away alongside the convoy.
Time ticked away quickly.
It was soon evening.
Once the afterschool rush hour had calmed down, Serenity intended to make dinner for her and Jasmine in the kitchen when she received a call from Liberty.
âSeren, Iâve been thinking about it all day. Iâm coming to you because Iâm out of options.â
âWhat happened, Liberty?â
âI was pushing the stroller and accidentally left a scratch on a Maybach when I went shopping in the afternoon. It must be expensive to repair this sort of car. My stash probably wonât cover it. I told your brother-in-law about it, but he yelled at me to fix my own problem.â
With her heart sinking to the pit of her stomach, Serenity inquired, âTake a deep breath, Liberty. How much is the repair ?â
âI donât know yet. The car owner took my number and said heâll call me when the car is fixed.â
âAll that matters is that you and Sonny are fine. We can pay for the repairs. Iâll lend you the money.
Donât worry about it.â
Liberty choked with sobs. âSeren, Iâm such a loser. I canât believe I messed up.â
âItâs only an accident, Liberty. Donât feel bad. Money is just material things. Be thankful no one got hurt.â
Once Liberty calmed down, Serenity turned to her best friend,â Jasmine, I need to rush home.â
âOkay.â
Having found out that Liberty needed support, Jasmine urged her best friend to get home.
Serenity raced to her sisterâs place and sat with her the whole night before reaching home at midnight, Zacharyâs deadpan questioning echoed across the room when she opened the door to the house. âWhy are you back so late?â
While closing the door, Serenity answered, âMy sister got into a bit of a fix.â
The tension along Zacharyâs facial lines eased up a little as he asked faintly, âWhat happened to your sister?â
âShe went shopping this afternoon when she accidentally knocked the stroller onto a luxury car parked by the road. Since itâs a scratch, the repair should cost a lot. My sister doesnât have a job or an income.
Sheâs worried she canât afford the repairs.â
There was a flicker in Zacharyâs dark eyes. Was it possible that Serenityâs sister damaged Duncanâs car?
âWhat type of car was it? Whatâs the damage?â
Keeping a straight face, Zachary probed.
âMy sister said it was a Maybach. I guess it must be expensive to fix a scratch on that kind of car.â
Serenity was uncertain how much of a damage to the pocket it would be.
