Chapter 490
Married at First Sight
The eldest son of the York family had never suffered from such a painful pinch in his life.
It hurt!
âIs Nana up?â Serenity asked as she turned over to get out of bed.
She wanted to slip back into her room before Grandma May woke up.
âSheâs up.â
âSo early?â
Serenity, who was ready to run, stopped in her tracks. âNana will see me if I go out like this.â
âWeâre husband and wife.â
Zachary did not like her sneaking around.
Serenity grinned. âYouâre right, weâre husband and wife. Thereâs nothing to hide. Nana will only be happy if she sees us like this. She knows that weâve been sleeping in separate rooms since we got married and has always urged me to do all sorts of things to you.â
Zachary looked at her without a word.
He was also feeling utterly helpless with his nana.
Of course, he was mostly grateful now. If not for her nagging, he would not have married Serenity.
âIâm going back to my room to change. What do you want to eat today? Iâll cook for you.â
âI went and got takeout for breakfast, so thereâs no need to cook.â
Serenity took a double take at him and left the room.
Zacharyâs expression darkened. What did those glances mean?
Was it strange that he got takeouts for her? Would this make the sun rise from the west?
âMorning, Nana.â
Serenity went out and greeted the old lady as if nothing had happened.
âMorning, Serenity.â
Grandma May looked at her lovingly. âYou must be hungry. Zack got up early and braved the cold wind and rain to Wiltspoon Hotel and packed breakfast home. He said that you like the food there.â
Serenityâs heart warmed as she listened. She felt like she was being cherished.
Iâm not picky. He couldâve just packed any breakfast from a nearby restaurant.â
Grandma May laughed. âYouâll get tired of eating those every day. Itâs good to try something different occasionally. Itâs cold today, so go change your clothes and put on a jacket.â
Serenity hummed and pretended to be calm as she went back to her room. Once the door was closed, she could not help but laugh.
Ring ring ringâ¦
The phone rang Serenity took out her phone, thinking it was her sister calling, but it turned out to be her best friend, Jasmine.
âJasmine, Iâll be there soon.â
Serenity thought Jasmine was urging her to go help out in the store because it was too busy.
âSeren, I havenât gone to the store today. I have a cold. I was dizzy when I woke up in the morning, so I took my temperature and found out that Iâm running a high fever. Iâll have to go to the hospital later. Iâm just giving you a headsâup that youâll have to watch the store today.â
âHow did you catch a cold? Did you dress for fashion instead of warmth? Itâs raining today and it feels like winter. Wear a few more layers. The store belongs to us, so itâs only natural for me to watch it.
Please donât stand on ceremony with me.
âQuickly get yourself to the hospital. Donât drive and ask your brother to send you there.â
Jasmine hummed in response. âMy mom will take me to the hospital, so I wonât bother my brother. Iâll go see the doctor first.â
âOkay, take care.â
âYou too. Wear more layers.â
After exhorting each other, Jasmine hung up first.
She could not go to the store today, so Serenity could not dally as usual. She changed her clothes as fast as she could and washed up.
Then, she took the purse she always carried and went out.
âNana and Zachary, Iâll go to the store first. Iâll bring breakfast there to eat.â
In one swift series of motions, she walked to the table, picked up her portion of breakfast, stuffed it into her bag, and left.
âWait, Serenity.â Zachary called out to her.
