Chapter 603
Married at First Sight
Serenity left her sisterâs rented place and arrived home at halfâpast ten at night.
She opened the door to the pitchâdark house.
Was Nana not at home?
Was she asleep?
Serenity stepped into the house and turned on the light. She then closed and locked the door behind her. After much thought, she opened the door and grabbed a pair of Zacharyâs loafers to put at the front door.
It was to show others that there was a man in the house.
It was a safety measure.
âYouâre back, Ms. Hunt.â
Hearing the noise, Mrs. Lane came out of her bedroom.
âYeah.â Serenity asked, âIs Nana asleep?â
âOld Mrs. York went back. Your brotherâinâlaw picked her up. She thought you wouldnât be home tonight, so she told me to inform you when you return tomorrow.â
Serenity was surprised. âNana went home?â
Mrs. Lane replied, âOld Mrs. York said she moved in with you because she got into a fight with your husband. Now that they made up, she moved back to her house.â
She believed Old Mrs. York was afraid to be seen by the Stones, so the old lady brought forward the plan to move back to her place.
The missus would be hanging around the Stones a lot since it was confirmed that she was the niece of Mrs. Stone. Old Mrs. York would be staying away from the Stones until Mr. Zachary confessed the truth to the missus.
That was why Old Mrs. York had to flee.
âOh,â Serenity answered.
She was under the impression that Nana had great fun living with her. It never occurred to Serenity that Nana would move back to her house so soon.
âMs. Hunt, why didnât you spend the night at your auntâs place?â
Serenity drew close and took a seat on the sofa before replying, âWe didnât go through with dinner. My sisterâs former motherâinâlaw and sisterâinâlaw were at it again. We all ended up at the police station, so we canceled dinner. Weâll go to my auntâs over the weekend.â
Mrs. Lane asked with concern, âIs your sister okay? Why wouldnât the Browns just let your sister be?
She has separated from them.â
âThey couldnât stand getting nothing after my sister trashed the house. They thought they could bully my sister just because they were mean.â
Serenity sighed. âThat family is the most pretentious family Iâve ever seen. Women need to know their partnerâs family before walking down the aisle.â
Women needed to know what they were getting into, especially when it came to families like the Browns. The Browns hid their ugly nature for years before showing their true colors.
Mrs. Lane poured Serenity a glass of water before sitting opposite Serenity. She said, Human emotions are fleeting. They can fall in and out of love easily. Your sister doesnât have her head in the clouds and is a decisive woman. She didnât cling onto the guy and chose to divorce.
âEven so, it was a messy divorce.â
Leaning back against the sofa, Serenity asked, âMrs. Lane, you have years under your belt. You must have seen it all. What do you think about my husband? Will he end up like Hank? Heâs good to me now, but Hank was good to my sister back then too.
âAnd Iâm talking real good. Hank would give his heart to my sister, but now⦠Youâre right. Human emotions are fleeting. I wonder if my husbandâs feelings for me will ever change. I wonât bother to argue and will go straight to divorce if he cheats on me like Hank did. Iâd rather give him to the other woman.â
She believed her man would be tainted if he was touched by another person.
She believed her man would be tainted too if he touched another person.
Serenity would not fight and would readily escape the marriage the moment Zachary had an affair.
