Chapter 924
Married at First Sight
Hank gave his sister the stink eye.
âClean up my room, Chelsea. You should keep an eye on Lucas next time Donât turn. the place upside down every time you come. Lucas always picked on Sonny and stole his toys back then. He even lied and beat Sonny up so bad he was in the hospital I know heâs young, but you should start disciplining him now. Youâll regret not doing anything about his behavior when he grows up.â
Despite wanting to say her piece, Chelsea was reminded of why she was here. Hence, she reluctantly uttered, âGot it Iâll tidy up your bedroom Thatâs how Lucas is. How am I supposed to do anything about it?â
After soothing his wife, Hank asked his sister, âWhat brings you here, Chelsea?â
âYour brotherâinâlaw and I are out of work. We havenât been lucky with our job prospects, and our age is not helping either The employees are looking for people not older than thirtyâfive years old Your brotherâinâlaw and I are in our forties.
âSo now your brotherâinâlaw is thinking of setting up his own business in construction supplies A lot of people are buying houses now, and they will need to do some remodeling. I think itâs the business to be right now, but we donât have much money. We were thinking about borrowing some money from you âYou have a highâpaying job and savings of over a million dollars. I think three hundred thousand dollars should be enough for your brotherâinâlaw to try his hand at business. Weâll return the money to you in interest when his business turns out to be a success.â
A hundred thousand dollars was enough to set up the business Chelsea asked for more to have some leeway in the budget.
Since her brother had money, Chelsea wanted to borrow as much as she could Having found out the reason for her sisterâinâlaw showing up here, Jessica pulled a long face.
Jessica remained without a word to see what Hank had to say about this.
Hank replied, âItâs nice that my brotherâinâlaw wants to try and make it out on his own, but does it cost that much to set up a business? You and my brotherâinâlaw have been working for more than a decade Mom and Dad had been paying for your household expenses Your decadeâlong savings should be more than three hundred thousand dollars by nowâ
Chelsea choked. It did not take long before she found her voice again. âYour brother- in-law and I have been without an income for months. Weâve been eating away our savings, so there isnât much left.
Besides, I have three children to raise. I canât spend the savings all at once.
âWe didnât earn a lot anyway. How much can we save in a year? Youâre in a muchbetter financial situation than we are.
âIâm not exaggerating about our finances, Hank. Itâs the truth. Your annual income is more than your brotherâinâlawâs and my decadeâlong salary combined.â
Hank did not believe a word she said.
Chelsea might have started off with low wages, but there had been a dramatic increase in their salaries in recent years. The couple could at least save a hundred thousand dollars in a year.
It was not like his sister could not afford to set up shop.
âYou should talk to Jessica, Chelsea. I donât have a problem if Jessica wants to lend you the money.
She wears the pants in the house. I gave her my bank account details. She manages the finance for our house renovation. It makes things easier.
âAlso, I should let you all know that Jessica and I lost our jobs today. Since Serenity is the wife of the York familyâs heir, Mr. York is out to get us. The evidence Liberty used against me was handed to my boss. The boss fired us both without offering any compensation.â
Mr. and Mrs. Brown were speechless.
Chelsea stared at Jessica.
Was her brother foolish? Why was Jessica given full financial control?
Now that Jessica was managing the money, it was a noâbrainer that she would not lend Chelsea any money.
